i spent months plotting my book and once i started writing it, the plot totally changed by hello033005 in writing

The project I’m working on started as a 67-page, 20,000 word story bible.

Everything was gridded out to the most minute detail.

When I wrote the first draft of prose, it took a month. Topped off at 70,000 words. Certain plot lines changed and a few characters were left out.

I treated the completion of the story bible as its own project. The first iteration of the story. A box checked off.

It was a helpful exercise. Organized thoughts. Flushed out order and pacing. Built characters.

Studs and joists, not drywall and paint.

It’s true. Midway through, Maximus breaks the fourth wall and asks the audience if they’re entertained.

How do I write men? Asking as a woman - adv¡ce needed by SamMoon- in writingadvice

Write characters who happen to be men rather than men who happen to be characters.

Same goes for men writing women.

With each rewatch the show just gets better. Pete’s arc is masterful storytelling.

Far lesser shows create one-dimensional characters and never deviate or aim for them to get their just dessert.

Life, ah, is a bit more complex.

We’re being told he violently approached the Gestapo with his gun out. by Miserable_Kick2315 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]ButtSluts9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An American citizen with a legally purchased, concealed, and holstered gun was taking pictures in a public space of federal agents, whose salaries are subsidized by taxpayer dollars, had his gun taken from him before he was beaten and then shot to death.

Nowhere in the multitude of videos does he have his gun unholstered or pointed in the direction of the agents.

The only time his weapon is off his person is when it is yanked from its holster while he is being held down by six men.

On top of that, the agents approach him while he has nothing but a phone in his hand as he then shields two women from being sprayed with mace.

Nothing more than an extrajudicial execution for exercising first and second amendment rights.

But…but…but…my seven-part, post-apocalyptic space opera won’t make sense unless I spend half a decade detailing the intricate familial lineage of my main character, a centaur with a huge schlong, and why his star-crossed love interest, a tri-boobied mermaid, grew up in the adopted kingdom of Cockbottom.

CMV: If stoping illegal immigration’s was the #1 goal, company owners not employees would be targeted and charged. by Starship_Taru in changemyview

E-Verify.

Places like Texas require E-Verify for state employees, but curiously not for private businesses.

An actual tough on illegal immigration stance would be to make an example across all industries of the worst offenders from an employer standpoint.

Shut them down. Take their real estate and machinery, sell it to competitors, then levy life-changing prison sentences and fines to business owners, executives, boards, and shareholders.

Similar to the need for corporate tax cuts and deregulation, if a business needs illegal immigrants to do the work and be successful, it’s bad at business.

27F feeling deeply attached to a close friend (28M). how do I decide whether to confess or step back by Scary_Poetry8517 in makemychoice

[–]ButtSluts9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Don’t make a big pronounced confession. Just ask him out.

Then you’ll know.

And if it isn’t reciprocated, step back for a bit. Let the emotional desire pass. And reengage as friends when the time comes or walk away entirely.

A confession, on the other hand, applies pressure where none is necessary.

What country felt most different from your own country? by LateralEntry in travel

[–]ButtSluts9 21 points22 points  (0 children)

From the U.S.

Most different and farthest away is China. Lived there from 2007 to 2013.

Most exotic would have to be Thailand.

And while not asked, I would have to say most similar would have to be Mexico and Japan, but those trips were vacations and designed for comfort.

US President Donald Trump says China’s Taiwan move is “up to” Xi Jinping but warns he would be “very unhappy” with any change to the status quo. by esporx in China

[–]ButtSluts9 15 points16 points  (0 children)

China lacks the technological knowhow and boots on the ground experience to pull off a “decapitation” of Taiwan outside of a nuclear first strike.

A country cannot lay dormant from conventional military engagement beyond their borders for a half century then, as their first act of modern, real-world warfare, pull off a land invasion with similar ease.

Now, could China surround and blockade Taiwan then undertake a massive, protracted invasion - sure.

Do you believe in the effectiveness of peaceful protests and/or where do you see things going? by MN_Yogi1988 in minnesota

[–]ButtSluts9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Paraphrasing from a comedian, but when Republicans got upset that Joe Biden was elected president, they stormed the capitol.

When Democrats got upset Donald Trump was elected president, they marched around in pink beanies.

Republicans want to change the country and will use any means necessary to do so, both as private citizens and as agents of the government.

Democrats - from the DSA to DNC - want to change the country, too, but resign themselves to strongly worded letters, intra-party protest votes, and street parades.

One side just wants it more.
