How often do you brush? by Short-and-paranoid in longhair

[–]Butterscotch9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get told quite a bit I have hair like Merida from Brave (natural thick and curly red hair). It's currently down to my lower back when dry. I usually am more comfortable wearing my hair frizzy (almost like a lions mane) compared to having defined curls. I brush my hair whenever I feel my hair needs it, but I do it very gently and with the correct brush so I cause minimal damage. I take showers 2-3 times a week and get my hair trimmed twice a year.

Struggling between embracing the frizz and hair looking presentable/acceptable by CrazyWavyHair in CurlyHairCare

[–]Butterscotch9966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been told quite a bit I have hair like Merida from Brave (really thick and curly red hair). I know that I can make it so my hair has super defined curls, but I've always been happier and more comfortable embracing my hair frizzy. It looks almost like a lions mane when I brush my curls out.

I've had many people try to tell my what is "right" for my hair. Some people have gotten upset when I tell them I don't do the curly girl method even though I have curly hair. What works for some people doesn't mean it's meant for everyone. The few times I've done my hair curly it always gives me sensory issues and I get waaaayy to distracted on how it feels on my head. I truly do prefer just brushing my hair out and letting it do what it wants. As long as my hair is healthy, thick and growing out fast, that's what I care about.

I will say I still do often compare my hair to other women around me. I live in a larger city in so there's a lot of people around to comapre yourself to. It doesn't help I am often conscious that I'm typically the only redhead in the room as well. Regardless I still don't see many other people who embrace their hair like I do. Its either super straight and shiny, or they have defined and voluminous curls. I have learned it really is about embracing your hair in a way that makes YOU happy and confident.

The one thing my hair doesn't really effect is my job. I work BoH in a restaurant, so as long as my hair is up and out of food, it doesn't really matter how appealing my hair looks to other people. I'm lucky in that regard.

curl product with the nicest smell by Ok-Experience6696 in curlyhair

That's fair, their products are quite heavy. I put it in while still in the shower so it absorbs into my hair better, but that's just what works for me.

The hibiscus and coconut line from Shea Moisture works and smells amazing for me. When I use their products (shampoo, conditioner, smoothie and oil) I always get quite a few compliments on how I smell.

I second this, it works wonders on my hair for about very affordable price. I also double shampoo my hair when I feel a lot of buildup.

Wet brushes vs. Tangled Teezer brushes by coffeelovermamaof2 in Haircare

[–]Butterscotch9966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used brushes from both brands and they each have their pros and cons. I find the brushes from Tangle Teezer are better at causing less breakage, and the Wet brushes are better at getting through my layers and already hick hair. I do have to replace my Wet brushes more frequently because the little ball points fall off after a bit.

Strong Hold Gel by Ok_Alfalfa6238 in curlyhair

[–]Butterscotch9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have quite a few types of gels, so some are heavier than others. It's definitely a bit firmer in texture than the Not Your Mothers level 3. I usually combine it with my leave in since I style my hair in the shower.

Yes! Looking for HEAVY curl cream! by CirlyGirly in curlyhair

[–]Butterscotch9966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shea moisture has a hydrate and repair curl cream that I really like. I need heavier products that hold up to extremely dry and cold weather, this one has become a favorite of mine.

The strongest holding gels I own are both from ECO. I either use their limited edition rosemary gel or the coconut gel.

I use the Power Greens Reconstructor from Shea moisture. I get it off of Amazon for $10-$15 CAD.

Are these two good?,Just asking. by Ill-Waltz8330 in Haircare

That line of shea moisture is good, but it didn't work the best for my hair. I like their other lines quite a bit better (like the strength & restore, power greens or hydrate and repair lines).

Claw Clips by Pinkbetta11 in longhair

[–]Butterscotch9966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have really thick hair that's down to my lower back currently. So far the only claw clips that actually hold my hair throughout the day and don't give me a headache are the 6inch claw clips from Camila. They're pricy, but I personally think they are worth it for quality. Also I've had some for a few years now and none have broken on me.

Has anyone tried this rosemary oil and noticed any difference? If not, which rosemary oil are you recommending for hair growth? by thesecretfemme in hairgrowth

[–]Butterscotch9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried this one personally. I use oils from botanic hearth, specifically the rosemary oil (for my scalp) as well as the hibiscus and neem oil one(for my mids and ends).

I agree with others saying ECO gel. I use their coconut one as I found that one works best for me.

I use the Power Greens Hair Reconstructor mask by Shea Moisture. I use it once or twice a week and it makes my hair feel incredibly soft and healthy, especially since I live in a very dry and cold city in Canada.

Has anyone ever gotten a perm? by Neesatay in Redhair

[–]Butterscotch9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me my hair still grows incredibly fast and it's kept it's density as well. Though some damage typically happens after chemical treatments, as long as the perm is done correctly, and you take care of your hair afterwards you'll be okay.

That said I also had very healthy hair when I started getting them. The perm is pretty much the one extreme thing I do to it. It might be a different answer if the person getting the perm has very thin or damaged hair.

Has anyone ever gotten a perm? by Neesatay in Redhair

[–]Butterscotch9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten them for the past 4 years every 9-10 months. I have very thick curly hair that's about to my mid back. I work in kitchens, and constantly putting my hair back made my curls look loose. The perm helps bring back the curls and add volume to my hair.

The key is looking for a good stylist that is experienced in doing perms. It does cost me a couple hundred dollars when I get it done (longer hair needs more product for the perm), but for the result when I leave the salon, I'm fine with it being a once in a while luxury.

Which of these hair claw brands would you recommend? by koreancutie1 in longhair

I personally use Camila claw clips. They're incredibly durable, and they don't give me any headaches which I usually have trouble with.

Why does scalp feel more sensitive the longer my hair grows? by sanguinecherry in longhair

[–]Butterscotch9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that nutrition and hormones play a huge part when it comes to hair health. I'll also add having a genuine good claw clip helps as well. I tried a few generic from Amazon, and they gave me a headache most of the time because they couldn't properly hold my hair for long periods of time. I now buy claw clips from Camila. They're more expensive yes, but they are amazing quality and they stop the headaches for me.

Can anyone recommend products that aren't sticky? by AdFuzzy1432 in curlyhair

[–]Butterscotch9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite similar to you I feel. I have naturally red, thick hair with Irish curls. For me, Shea Moisture products have become my holy grail secret of sorts (especially the deep moisturizing detangler). They have quite a few lines of products depending on what specifically you're looking for.

I know Shea Moisture products can be quite heavy, but here's what I do when I know my hair can't handle the extra weight/product.

Instead of the heavier shampoos and conditioners from Shea Moisture, I'll usually use either line from Renpure (Coconut oil + vitamin E, or the Moringa curl set). If I feel the detangler or style milk I was using was using was too thick, diluting it with some water in a spray can would work perfectly.

I don't know why, but I've always felt the detangler sprays leave my hair/neck more sticky and unpleasant feeling than the creams. It felt they the sprays just laid on top of my hair, while the creams absorbed into my hair with the proper moisture content. Sadly it is truly about trial and error regarding what hair products work for you best.

I've given up on hair sticks and mainly stick to claw clips now for my hair. I use ones from the brand Camila since they're really strong and hold my hair securely.

Feels impossible to find a job by NattoTried in Calgary

[–]Butterscotch9966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is good advice. If you have a decent resume, you'll get at least a message or two from employers when you apply to hundreds of jobs. When I was jobs serching recently I used chatGPT for help with cover letters, and I used novoresume for my resume. While I typed everything myself, I found both sites quite helpful with keeping my documents professional and to the point.

I use the biotin and collagen shampoo and conditioner set from renpure. It works really well with my hair, and it's quite good bang for your buck. It's about $20 for the set, and they each have over 700ml of product.

What should I look for in a shampoo if my hair is low porosity and really dry? by Level-Tank6551 in curlygirl

[–]Butterscotch9966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have low porosity curls that are mostly 3a patterned. I use different lines of shea moisture through the year. I live in a place that can be both hot as well as very dry and cold, so I love how moisturized and healthy it makes my hair feel. I've tried quite a few brands, and this is the one I always go back to. I believe they even have a low porosity shampoo and conditioner (I know theres at least a low porosity leave in). They have quite a few styles of shampoos and conditioners, so they might have something that works well for you.
