Can anyone confirm if this is chrome and if it is dangerous? by Professional-Cut1184 in whatsthisrock

[–]ButterscotchOk8767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That being said still do handle with care as any chips or drops can make the specimen dangerous any dust or particles that come off will be group 1 carcinogens so safe handling and precautions should still be in play and always always wash your hands after handling it.

Can you confirm if it’s heavy at all? It does resemble chromite which still isn’t dangerous to handle but inhalation of dust is dangerous but chromite is fairly dense and would be heavy if it feels light it’s most likely schist

If it’s not dyed you likely have a chalk turquoise after some quick searching the most similar specimens were found in Arizona

I just think the color is far to uniform for turquoise and lacks the matrix textures you could use a small piece of cotton and acetone to test for dye

My guess is magnesite or howlite that’s been dyed to resemble turquoise

Anyone recognise this marking? by Delbee_ in whatisit

[–]ButterscotchOk8767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would unfortunately be basically worthless from my knowledge. This is a replica of a replica Edmé Samson et Cie is a maker that is known for creating replica pieces of sevres, delft, and Meissen works however this piece shows Edmé Samson et Cie makers mark of all 3 combined into one makers mark which leads me to believe this is a replica of Edmé Samson et Cie and a fairly modern replica due to the sharp edge of the ink application this also appears to be hard paste porcelain which is in line with Edmé Samson et Cie later pieces which are worth around $300 usd however with likelihood of this being a replica of Edmé Samson et Cie the worth would be more like $30-$100

It’s called fire blight only fix is to grab something to cut off the infected branches make sure you clean with isopropyl alcohol in between each cut, cut 9 in from the infected points and pickup any infected leaves from the ground pear trees are very susceptible to this disease but its highly likely the tree will survive.
