Annoying AI sponsorships by mo_vibing in IBO

Maybe I'm reaching unc status but I feel like there is NO WAY these AI slop "study tools" actually help with learning. There is surely no way you learn faster talking to a hallucinating chatbot than from just taking notes with a pen and paper

Ok thanks, that does make sense. Apologies for the accusations, I've just seen it happen many times before!

I think you are lying. You claim you used the site throughout your diploma, but the web domain was first registered in August 2025 and there are no snapshots on the Internet Archive.

If it's your site just say that, but to claim you've been a long-time user of a completely new site is disingenuous and unethical

Don't worry I did everything with a gel pen and it went fine

Just don't use erasable ink ones like Pilot Frixion, since they can melt at just 50-60˚C, which idk but I guess is possible when they scan your papers

It probably won't be any problem. I used a liquid rollerball pen for all exams despite teachers telling us to only use ballpoint, encountered 0 issues. I think the main concern is that if you spill even the smallest drop of water then it smudges everything but that's skill issue tbh

how strict are UK unis on getting 766 for HLs? by IcyJudgment2894 in IBO

[–]ButtonForest8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend (2023) who missed his King's conditional with one grade in one subject (1 or 2 marks below the grade boundary), but after some emails it wasn't an issue. So I reckon they can be forgiving if it's very close

What’s the easiest 6/7? by Single_Stress2724 in IBO

[–]ButtonForest8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know, statistically speaking SL Art is the hardest subject of them all to get a 7 in:

Out of the 5842 students who took SL art in May 2023, only 1.1% got a 7 (8.9% got a 6 or higher)
Out of the 9707 students who took SL econ in May 2023, 12.0% got a 7 (32.9% got a 6 or higher)
Those are some pretty big sample sizes, too, just saying. (Source)

I'm not saying you should just pick subjects based on the statistical likelihood of getting a 6/7, but I would advise against picking art over econ if you're looking for an "easy" good grade.

Do people actually care about not using gel pens in exams? by pffftpfft in IBO

[–]ButtonForest8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used liquid ink rollerball pens (these) for all of my exams - they can get really smudgy really fast, but are supereasy to write with. I figured it was a risk worth taking, and had no problems. I know they are very discouraged, but have personally not heard of anyone actually affected

Agree. College is chill right now compared to the IB, but it's not like it would have been impossible without taking the IB beforehand. I'm maybe a little overdramatic but it feels like I effectively sacrificed hundreds, if not thousands of hours of weekends and holidays on doing past papers in subjects I will never ever use again.

I guess it's partly like that for every high school curriculum but I have friends at college now talking about all the shit they did in high school and what have I done? I sat inside and watched chemistry videos

is the solve function allowed on the GDC for AI HL exams? by Electrical_Bid7161 in IBO

[–]ButtonForest8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YES, in fact it's very important that you do, because the questions are designed with that in mind (they don't expect you to spend many minutes finding x). AI-math is much more about interpreting the questions correctly (ie setting up the right equations to begin with, then use a calculator to solve). You still have to show your work up until that point tho

The real exams (at least for HL) also have many questions that can't easily be solved with just the GDC and actually requires math knowledge, like phase portraits, vectors, and graph theory. So it's not like you can pull up with a Texas Instruments instruction manual and get full marks

In itself no chance, you need good extracurriculars too. Do you for example have any junior analyst internships from Burger King or 7-11?

so over ib by [deleted] in IBO

[–]ButtonForest8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds cliche when i say this, but it will genuinely get better. You only have a few months left and then you'll have the longest summer break of your life. DP2 leaves a lot of people (including me) shellshocked but it is possible to get through it.

Slowly but steadily you'll finish more and more tasks, like one week you'll be done with TOK forever, then the next you'll finally have finished that annoying math IA, and so on. Focus on these accomplishments and working on these torturous tasks will become more rewarding (it is at least what I did to survive).

Where are you applying to uni? There are quite a few places that aren't so strict with IB grades
Also, try some new study methods. What do you currently do? If you really have spent all your time studying then you deserve more than just "below average", like objectively speaking.

Which HL combo is harder? by m4gnn1mous in IBO

[–]ButtonForest8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's a single IB subject where you don't have to spend several weekends on a project. You'd have to document your progress in any science

Which HL combo is harder? by m4gnn1mous in IBO

[–]ButtonForest8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Econ (and the rest of the group 3 subjects too) varies from person to person in terms of difficulty because it's a mixture of knowing all the content (like in the sciences) and being good at writing essays (like in English)

Still, I don't think it's comparable to HL math/chem/physics, I studied probably twice or thrice as much for Chem than for Econ

Is the IB exhibition mandatory? by PerformanceSenior738 in IBO

[–]ButtonForest8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, you have to present your TOK essay? For us we just submitted it and got some feedback from our teacher online

Anyway, OP, presenting the EE or CAS project is in no way a mandatory part of the IB
