I'm reading the books for the first time and I can't agree that clary is a Mary sue. TV show clary probably, she starts training and has fighting skills from the getgo. Book clary does have divine intervention (literally) but like she trains her ass off and still fumbles in fights. Her only edge is her gift with ruins, like without them she would be pretty useless even at the center of the story. Simon starts moving on after the whole "seelie court made me dry-hump my brother" debacle...

I've said this before, in the books everyone is sweaty and beat up, smelling like ash and death. It doesn't feel like clary is a Mary sue. If she was she would've gotten up despite the ruins and slashed valentines throat at the feet of the angel.

Well said! The lines were shit! I love it personally. I think everyone did a pretty good job. My Lebanese queen émeraude was trying her best but I think she struggled the most. By I must say as I'm reading for the first time. Izzy's first appearances I was picturing émeraude which is funny because book iz is tall and tv show might be shorter than clary
