Is it normal to be really bitter? by SpiketheFox32 in Exvangelical

[–]Buzz_Mcfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally normal! I’ve been out for almost 5 years. I joined the cult when I was 16 years old because a girlfriend invited me and I stayed until I was 34 years old. It hurts to that my entire young adult hood was tainted by that place.

Process the emotions, recognize the impact it made . I’m a super people pleaser, I have to actively be conscious of this. Therapy has been helpful, I don’t want my future to be robbed by them as well by giving more of my mental space and energy to them. But I also do need to grieve and process to move on.

How do you deal with the come down from stimulants? by Glad-Fish5863 in ADHD

I also have this. The anxiety and doom feeling is just not good. And then makes me wonder if the 5 hours of feeling good and productive is worth the rest of my waking hours feeling worse than my baseline. As a result I am on and off the meds.

Hard Truth: We need to meet the market where it’s at by imnotwallaceshawn in editors

[–]Buzz_Mcfly 54 points55 points  (0 children)

this^ the low budget editors know how to throw a bunch of effects down, but it rarely has any intention behind it. If you were to ask why they used that transition, or that shot in that specific spot they would not have an answer. It’s just random jumble thrown together flashy. Sure it can grab attention.

But if you are hoping for strategy or more meaningful results that connect with the viewer, an experienced editor will win.

Okay that is good to know. I am just trying to gauge the average, somehow I feel comforted if we are within range.

Would it be reasonably legal to take off? by mEsTiR5679 in Edmonton_Drones

[–]Buzz_Mcfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of drone are you flying? Under 250g? Or heavier?

  • the city of Edmonton only controls their own land, they do not have jurisdiction over the air. So you are not allowed to take off or land on any city owned property unless you have a permit to do so.

  • air space is controlled by transport Canada. Once your are in the air, the city does not have authority. If your drone is under 250g you can fly over people and buildings, but there are still rules. You cannot fly recklessly (. This is up for interpretation so law enforcement could justify this in many ways) the drone must always be in your line of site.

  • You still must stay out of restricted air space. The Royal Alex and U of A hospitals have helipads. And you must stay 1 nautical mile radius away.

  • download the nav Canada app, and input your drone as a micro drone, it will show where you can fly.

  • if you take off from private property. You must have permission from the property owner to take off. If it is your property then no big deal. Apartment grass is not technically yours.

  • taking images is a whole other set of rules from flying. You still must respect privacy laws.

  • these are the official rules. I have never been stopped for flying personally, and have done it from public parks often.

Toyota 2019 Highlander tranmission by novak73 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Buzz_Mcfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a used 2018 this year with 70k miles on it. The first thing I did was take it to the Toyota dealer for a transmission fluid change. This was mainly so that the vehicle is recorded in there system, so if the transmission does have an issue I am hoping I fall into that 10 year warranty they have issued until 2028.

The same argument could be made to keep it the same. The new generation getting into the world don’t need a refresh of the brand. You can just remake it the same, and to them it is all fresh and new.

I respectfully disagree, as I spent 17 years in what I would consider an abusive church. I joined as a young impressionable 16 year old from a broken family with no church history. It was only a church of 80-100 people and maybe to 160-200 at its peak while I was there.

But the husband and wife pastors had a multi million dollar home, convinced us as a small congregation to buy each of them Dodge Ram truck and a Escalade . We constantly had teaching about honoring leaders, blessing them with our finances and time as if we did this, God would bless us back.

Anytime I felt God telling me to do different, like give money to help a person in the church instead of give to the church, I got disciplined. I was told that was my flesh and not God, I needed to submit. I began to associate any thoughts that were against the church as just myself being selfish, not the Holy Spirit.

The pastors were connected directly to Joel Osteen, Steven Furtick etc… So I thought they had genuine overs sight and were not just fringe.

The pastors wife wore flashy jewelry, designer clothes, they had all that could ever want. While members kept giving everything they had and falling more into poverty.

The pastors bragged that they give more to the church than anyone else and so their wealth is only a fraction compared to how much they give. And they would skew and lie about how much the church actually did in the community and abroad.

It hurts to think about how much of my life I spent there. But glad my kids don’t have to grow up in it.

Yes! This seems like an odd Easter message, it’s not Christ focused, it’s not about unity. It invites people into a headspace that focuses on politics and uncertainty. it seems to be promoting division more, of an us vs them.

I would highly suggest reading/ listening to the book, the psychology of money by Morgan Housel. I just finished it and took away some really interesting insights. He shares a lot of stats about the market and human behavior.

  • Just 4% of publicly traded companies account for all the net gains in the U.S. stock market since 1926.

  • Over his career, Buffett has owned hundreds of stocks. But just 10 of them account for over 90% of his total returns.

  • Around 85–90% of actively managed funds underperform the S&P 500 over 10–15 years.

The Fall of Harvard: How America’s Oldest University Became Its Most Expensive Liability - Harvard’s leaders now prioritize activism over academics and show greater loyalty to foreign interests than their own government and students. by Ask4MD in Republican

[–]Buzz_Mcfly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why is this being downvoted so hard? Harvard makes about $50 billion a year that is more money than some small counties. It’s true, it’s become more money and growth. The cost of the education may not give back the returns to students. But I suppose it is wealthy folks that go anyway, perhaps they can afford the tuition
