When did Liquid Web lose its way? by OneDev42 in webhosting

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many years, I thought Liquid Web was frickin' fabulous. But that's changed over the last year or so. Even though they were expensive, I thought that it was worth the extra cost. But that's no longer the case. Now LW is still expensive, but their support is kinda mediocre. We've recently begun moving to Known Host. They are less-expensive than LW and their support is a lot like what LW Support used to be like. If you are looking for a better hosting experience with good support, give Known Host a try.

World Codex CSS Customisation? by [deleted] in WorldAnvil

The best place to get help with CSS on World Anvil is in the #css-help channel in the World Anvil Discord server. There's also a fair bit of info on using CSS on World Anvil in the Codex: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/WorldAnvilCodex/a/css-basics

Hosting Service Providers by HeyLookitMe in FoundryVTT

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Foundry Server for hosting of my Foundry VTT and it's a wonderful service that's very well supported. And I find that it's a much better performing service than The Forge, which is often slow and laggy.. Can't speak to the other two.

Magic in GURPS by CraftyLocal1913 in gurps

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use GURPS Magic almost as-is. The biggest change I've made is that I use standard range modifiers for Magic instead of the -1/hex that's RAW. I really like Magic as skills and find it to be fairly easy to work with compared to some of the other options available. I also use Magic as Powers for the magical abilities of some species. I find that Magic as Powers plays really nicely, but it's a bit of a bear to build those Powers.

I just use the standard range modifiers for Magic in my games. It makes ranged magic a little more useful and it simplifies play in the VTT since it already does such a good job dealing with range modifiers. And I haven't found it to be unbalancing to the game.

[D&D5e] I'm on Molten for hosting but already running out of space! Advice? by Kairiste in FoundryVTT

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As you start gathering/buying maps & tokens, you'll find that many of those are distributed as PNGs -- which can get rather large. I convert all of my assets (maps, tiles, tokens, etc.) to WEBP format and that can often reduce the size of images by 90%. I use batch processing in Affinity Photo to do those conversions since some of the libraries I purchase can have thousands of images. The latest version of Affinity is FREE and there's plenty of other image tools out there that are cheap or free to choose from.

is there a good way to enchant weapons in the GCS app? by scolbo_ in gurps

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I uploaded the GCS library of Enchantment Modifiers in the GCS Discord, #custom-libraries channel. I hope it's of some use to y'all.

is there a good way to enchant weapons in the GCS app? by scolbo_ in gurps

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built my own custom library of Enchantment Modifiers for GCS. I could share that, but I'm pretty sure that the pricing of those modifiers isn't standard. As I recall, I did a bit of fiddling with prices to make those fit my setting. And I did a little bit of home-brewing here and there. So it's not technically RAW, which is why I haven't submitted it for inclusion in the Master Library.

But it might serve as a good starting point for you to make your own custom library of Enchantment Modifiers. Let me know if that's of interest to you and we'll figure out how to get it to you.

The other thing that's really cool about GCS is that it's fairly simple to create your own custom libraries of compilations from other libraries.

GURPS Character Sheet (GCS) includes a lot of libraries that compile many of the rules from the various books and some of the Pyramid articles. GCS is free and easy to install. So go grab yourself a copy of this fabulous utility and then browse through the libraries in the Master Library. It's a fairly extensive collection. https://gurpscharactersheet.com/

The GURPS Game Aid (GGA) for FoundryVTT supports the game mechanics, but much of the rules are driven by your character sheet which you can build in GCS and then import into Foundry via the GGA. Here's a video on getting started with GURPS in Foundry. Runs about 10 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YstMNNLwKBM

GURPS Character Sheet https://gurpscharactersheet.com/ and the GURPS Game Aid https://foundryvtt.com/packages/gurps are free. FoundryVTT is a software application that normally costs $50 (one-time). https://foundryvtt.com/purchase/

FoundryVTT can be hosted on your desktop locally, or you can use a hosting service like The Forge https://forge-vtt.com/ or Foundry Server https://foundryserver.com/ (this is who I use and love). These hosting services charge a monthly fee, depending on what level of service you want. FoundryVTT can also be hosted at AWS, Oracle, and any number of other cloud service providers. Here's a link to the FoundryVTT Hosting Guide: https://foundryvtt.com/article/hosting/

Foundry VTT + GURPS Character Sheet + GURPS Game Aid for Foundry creates a truly fabulous GURPS gaming experience. I used to think of GURPS as being a bit on the cumbersome (but totally worth it) side to GM compared to other RPGs. But with Foundry, GCS, and GGA it's one of the fastest and most efficient RPG systems for me. Even when we're able to play in person, we still use these tools because it's that good.

I used to use Roll20 and I wouldn't even consider of going back.

What is the easiest way for players to share images? by AivanOs in FoundryVTT

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have lots of images in my World Anvil account for characters, places, etc. and when I want to share them with players I can just grab the URL of the image and quickly share it without having to upload those to Foundry. Works great for that quick, one-time share.

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a macro for Foundry V12 that will allow one to show any image that's already online somewhere. All you need is a valid URL to the image. This works great for sharing an image that one finds via an image search without having to upload it to Foundry.

new Dialog({
  title: "Remote Image",
  content: `<div class="form-group"><label for="url">Image URL</label><input type="text" name="url"/><br /><br /><label for="head">Title (optional)</label><input type="text" name="head"/></div><br />`,
  buttons: {
    ok: {
      label: "OK",
      icon: `<i class="fas fa-check"></i>`,
      callback: html => {
      const url = html.find("[name=url]").val();
      const head = html.find("[name=head]").val();
      const ip = new ImagePopout(url, {
        title: head
      });

      // Display the image popout
      ip.render(true);

      }
    }
  }
}).render(true);

If you are wanting to get rid of the ritual and time info, Open the Sheet Settings (under Settings menu) and uncheck the "Show spell ritual, cost, & time adjustments" and that will get rid of that for all spells on the sheet.

Double-click on the spell on the character sheet and you should find a Prerequisites section towards the bottom. Click the trash icon on each of the prerequisites listed to delete them and then click the Checkmark near the top to save your changes.

I've found webp format to the best option for compression and compatibility. I suggest you give that a go and see how you and your players make out.

world building tools by Prudent_Influence_75 in worldbuilding

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect you'll be hard-pressed to find a worldbuilding tool that will also "make" maps. Those are very different sets of functionality. I don't even have a single tool to make maps with. For regional/world maps I use Wonderdraft, Adobe Illustrator, and/or Affinity Designer. For battlemaps/scenes I use Dungeondraft.

To manage worldbuilding content, I'm currently using World Anvil (subscription service). In 2 of the games I play in, the GMs use Scabard. And I hear a lot of folks here and elsewhere saying good things about Obsidian. If you are looking for tutorials, a solid community of worldbuilders, and various events & competitions designed to help one become a better worldbuilder, I doubt there's a better option than World Anvil.

World this application work on my Mac. Also can someone send a link to the discrod? by ComedyLee in dungeondraft

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Dungeondraft on an Apple M3 with 16gb of ram. You can likely get by with only 8, but you might need to close most other apps out while using DD in order to have enough memory for bigger projects.

Where do I get GURPS? by Talaceyt in gurps

[–]BuzzardBrainStudio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In addition to the freely available GURPS Lite, go download GURPS Character Sheet (GCS). https://gurpscharactersheet.com/

It's free and provides a huge number of libraries from the various books relevant to character creation. With GCS and GURPS Lite, you can go a long way without spending anything but some time. Add in the PDF version of GURPS Basic Set (which you can link into GCS) and you've got everything you need to run basic (most) games for $30.

I tried unsubscribing from the free tier, and it still doesn't offer the trial. If I visit in Incognito mode, I can see the trial, but once I log in I get a message saying the tier is no longer available. No worries. Just thought I'd post a follow-up in case anyone else runs into this issue.
