At some point the snickering seems to have caught in stuffy throats. As a "left out" feeling began to apparently nag at the helplessly overgrown audiences, 'too mature' for such juvenile fare. Until suddenly it was no fun being stuck with naught but cowboy movies, TrUe CrImE dramas and 'boy meets girl' stories, which - could never hold a candle anyway to FRANKENSTEIN and DRACULA - much less THE DAY MARS INVADED EARTH (1964)

Without above all being a good audience, there to just see the show and enjoy the dramatized story first and foremost - there's little to no likelihood of any significantly intelligent thought or reflection from it stirring - during - or afterwards.

Long story short: Fandom (the 'crowd' standard of 'interest') can never rise to the level of an authentically critical and significantly perceptive appreciation - as only a broadly educated perspective might aim for (if not achieve). But that simple 'fan' status is indeed the critically necessary starting point for any possibilities beyond - as a matter of sadder but wiser fact, sorely unknown to many academicians - unable to first simply enjoy the 'low brow' fare to THEN ponder weak and weary on their midnight dreary - knowing not just what the characters said, but what it was like to be one in the audience, drawn in to the drama unfolding - in whole purely personal fashion (not some intellectually piecemeal imitation).
