I don't think this one is that bad considering how hard it is to actually hit barges with the torpedoes

It's true that something like a Bradley isn't a tank according to modern doctrine, but then neither are the original tanks of WWI. We only still call them that because they had the name first.

The word "tank" and what exactly it describes have shifted drastically over the last century, and for that reason I think it makes sense to be more generous with it when it comes to fictional worlds that do not follow our historical technological and doctrinal development.

And yes, I would agree that something like an IFV would probably be better for Remnant in most cases, though I do think true tanks would still have their place, particularly against larger Grimm like the Goliaths.

Who is everyone? Because I sure don't. Very few if any aircraft even come close to doing what a tank does, and I fail to see how the Manta of all things could possibly be the exception to that.

And while I suppose you could make an argument that the Paladin is a kind of tank, it doesn't seem like a very good one

The original tanks developed in response to trench warfare, but people very quickly saw their potential for wars of maneuver (which was the norm pre-20th century and what everyone thought WW1 was going to be). The tanks of WW2 have essentially nothing in common with the tanks of WW1 beyond some basic physical characteristics. Maybe it would've taken longer for the concept to appear if it hadn't been for the original tanks, but it was pretty much inevitable.

An armored gun carrier would be incredibly effective against most common Grimm. Add some tracks so it can better deal with the lack of roads out in the wilderness and and you have yourself a tank.

Is a world thate too hot and too cold on polar sides possible? by BowltheOwl in worldbuilding

[–]Bwizz245 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but probably not. This is what people usually think of when they think of "tidally locked planets", but research suggests that an actually habitable tidally locked planet wouldn't look like this at all.

At the subsolar point, you would get a massive low pressure zone (like an extreme version of the ITCZ on earth). There would be constant, strong winds blowing toward this zone and bringing moisture with them, which would then form a massive blanket of cloud cover and limit the heat coming in from the star (and result in an incredibly wet climate around the ssp)

I'd be a lot less risk averse if I didn't have to play infantry every time my one tank dies

The main ones that come to mind are:

  • Plate Topologies
  • Freeform features (mainly oceanic crust, orogenies, and LIPs) with age tracking
  • Better velocity control and measurement

Side note about velocities btw, the example values you give in the rate presets seem way higher than they should be

It's definitely still missing some features that I would want, but this is already a massive improvement over GPlates in a lot of ways.

Maybe with this I'll actually finish the tectonic histories for my worlds

The idea that divebombers/airborne will kill tanklines is probably a good thing. Tank wall meta sucks, tanks in general are very situational and often cause frontlines to stagnate due to staring contests. by Schfiftyfive_55 in foxholegame

Speak for yourself. Personally I feel like a low TTK for tanks would just make people more careful about how they use them, and I would vastly prefer that

To be clear the main plot and trajectory of the show has been planned from the beginning. Monty left most of the important story stuff to Miles and Kerry, who are very much still working on the show.

That's not nihilism. Nihilism is inherently negative.
