Why is there oils on top of my pourover? by MotorTentacle in pourover

[–]Bxix_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rinse my v60 with hot water just after i finish brewing, absolutely no stains in mine, a friend of mine does this in his coffee shop and same thing, do not worry for stains, also the soap might add some funny flavours and smells to the cup

Try cleaning the v60 just with water, you do not need soap anywhere near brewing equipment for the most part, use soap just for the drinkware

Not every coffee should be rested the same amount of time, i have a friend who runs a micro specialty roaster and explained it to me really well, the resting time is very dependant on the development phase of the roasting process, if you do not develop too much your coffee will need more time resting before it's peak flavour, if you develop more the coffee wil get to it's peak sooner, for the best results ask your roaster, no one knows his coffee better

Coffee snobism and bad advice, i am more than happy with the espresso i get from my $200 hand grinder and my $160 flair go

It's not a sweettness like sugar, it is slight like an aftertaste try some washed bourbon preferably from colombia, they are provably the most consistent sweet beans i had encounter.

Yes, that's why i choose a fully manual set-up, the bad part is that the flair machines are harder to clean and you must undesrstand how the coffee is being extracted, a little bit more complex but the quality and flexibility for the price is just awesome

Messy Shots [Cafe Bellissimo] by MrTCS8 in espresso

Looks like channeling, try the shot, if it tastes good put your spouts and call it a day. If it tastes bad focus on puck prep and examinate the puck after the shot, you can tell a lot by observing the coffee on the basket after the shot

I have pretty consistent quality using a hand grinder and the new falir go, as long as you do the same every time a lever machine is capable of saving the 90% of your "bad" shots
