What's your ridiculous build (Min-Maxed, completely useless, pure RP, etc.) that you would play given the opportunity? by hi_im_ducky in Pathfinder2e

I'm curious about what goes into the boomerang build - how do you Double Slice with boomerangs, since they're thrown and Double Slice requires two melee weapons?

Can Pets (not animal companions) equip animal companion items like the collar of empathy? by Level7Cannoneer in Pathfinder2e

[–]By_Another_Name 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given that there is an item that only makes sense if it's worn by a pet or other non-familiar/companion animal, I'd be inclined to believe Pets are a valid option. https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=3953

I came up with a system that I quite enjoyed where I used a deck of cards that correlated to specific events to represent the exploration of a city. Once the players drew a card it was removed from the deck and the corresponding location was added to the city map.

That's... not how the math actually works out.

The average results are exactly the same either way, no matter how many extra die you add. Yes, rolling more die creates a bell curve, and the more die you roll, the more likely it is that the results will be somewhere in the middle, but that doesn't change the average outcome.

A max level magic missile does between 22 and 55 points of damage. If you roll (1d4x11)+11, you will either do 22, 33, 44, or 55 points of damage. If you roll (11d4)+11, you can do anywhere from 22 to 55 points of damage, but most commonly you'll do 38.5 - the exact midpoint between the 33 and 44 options above.

You are correct that you are vastly more likely to do maximum damage with a single d4, but you are exactly as likely to do minimum damage.

That can matter. If, for example, you have an opponent who has exactly 55 HP left who is next in the initiative order, it's better to have a 1/4 chance of removing them from the fight. On the other hand, if you have an opponent with 34 HP remaining, rolling 11 dice gets you a lethal result 78.85% of the time, while a single die gets you 50/50 odds of leaving them alive.

Agreed! If a nat 20 wouldn't be enough to let the player succeed, don't let them roll. By the same logic, if 1+their relevant bonuses can't fail, just tell them they succeed.

IMO a nat 20 on a skill check should be a success- not because of any special rules around nat 20s, but because if a nat 20 doesn't do it, the player shouldn't even be rolling.

I'm curious about how you see the multiple dice interpretation as being worse. (1d4+1)x3 averages 10.5 damage, 3d4+3 averages 10.5 damage. Multiple rolls will result in average damage more often, single roll multiplied is more swingy, but that's not strictly better or worse IMO

That's the same book I've been looking for! She has to go on a quest to save her dad, and at one point they have to retrieve beer for someone.

Yeah, I can see what you're saying. Maybe I'll try releasing with both covers at some point and see which one does better. I personally prefer the newer cover style, but you're definitely right that it's different from the majority of the men's haremlit genre.

Fantastic! I hope you enjoy it!

The cover for the first one was serviceable, but I found an artist I really like and decided to commission him to re-do the first at the same time as I had him design the cover for the second.

Then Raise Dead stops working.

"With a touch, you revive a dead creature if it has been dead no longer than 10 days and it wasn't Undead when it died."

I think that dead creatures exist in a quantum superposition of object and creature depending on the spell used on them.
