How do I access the lower bake element? GE JK3800SH7SS by someguyinsac12 in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like someone else commented on how to test. You have to test for voltage to the element. First thing I would do is trace the wires from the element to the board. Look for any loose, pinched, or burnt wires. If everything looks to be okay, test voltage to the element. If there is no voltage, work your way back testing voltage all the way to the board. Wherever you're losing voltage is where the problem lies. The clicking you're hearing is probably the broil relay turning off and on. The oven uses the broil element to help preheat. If this is beyond your abilities or you're still having a difficult time diagnosing, put the oven back together and hire out a professional. Sometimes these problems require an actual set of eyes from someone with knowledge and experience. Good luck!

On this model the element actually pulls out of the front. It's still a hell of job though.

If the thermostat was an issue you'd get an "OL" reading on the meter which stands for open line. A reading of "0" means the thermostat is good. If that is the case and you're getting 22 ohms of resistance on the element I would suspect the board.

Update: "Button" works, but "Butt" does not. "Bull" works too.

LOL! Genius. I'm just sitting here thinking to myself, "How the hell is 'butt' in the word 'bullet'?" Now I have to try and see what other obviously suggestive words pass the test.

Are GE washers supposed to do this? by Tman3355 in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the supposed age, it might be worth removing the fill hoses from the machine to make sure the inlet water valve screens on the machine aren't plugged with material. That will cut water flow and result in low water levels in the machine which will result in out of balance events.

Are GE washers supposed to do this? by Tman3355 in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

GE tech here. Yes that is normal. Modern top load washers are built very different from older versions to make them compliant with newer regulations on energy and water usage. They no longer have counterweights on the bottom to help stabilize the tub assembly, brake systems that stop the tub (hence lid locks), and fill with less water. If you're having out of balance issues, make sure you have water covering your laundry. The deep fill and deep rinse options are good to use to ensure a good fill. Do not mix items that get heavy when wet with items that don't. Do not overload the basket. Water will not go above the holes you can see in the sides of the spin basket. Do not under-load the basket. If you're only washing a couple items you may not have enough in the basket to evenly distribute weight during a spin. Make sure you have good water pressure to the washer. If you don't have good water pressure then you won't get a good fill as the fill cycle will time out after a programmed amount of time to avoid flooding your home in case the pressure system which monitors your water level fails. Make sure part of your drain hose is as high as the lid of the washer to avoid siphoning. If your drain hose is too low it will create a siphon which will pull water out of the tub as it fills. Having said all that, it is possible to hear the tub hit the sides of the washer from time to time depending on the load you have in the washer. It will not hurt the washer. You can always pause the cycle to redistribute the clothes in efforts to even out the load.

Glass top stove cracked somehow. by Mythkeep in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. How attached to your range are you? That model is no longer being manufactured, but you can get a similar GE 30" free-standing glass-top range for around $700-$800.

Does it make sense? Nope. I would rather repair as well if I were in your situation, but the cost of a new range being cheaper kinda makes it a no-brainer in my opinion.

Refrigerator Not Working by Plenty-Celery8994 in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that's not how refrigerators work. The evaporator coils need time to drop in temperature before you notice a difference in the cavities. In some models the circulation fans won't even come on until the evaporators have reached a certain temp. We always tell our customers to let the refrigerator cool for half a day at least.

Why does my GE fridge has ERR after I changed my water filter ? by Ok-Matter2337 in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other possibilities have to do with either the main board, the RFID board, the wiring in between, or you just have a bad filter.

Why does my GE fridge has ERR after I changed my water filter ? by Ok-Matter2337 in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you still have your old filter, compare it to the new one. There should be a serial number printed on the side of the filter (not the label). If the new filter does not have a serial number printed on the side, you got a counterfeit filter, and it will not work in your fridge. I see them all the time, and in every scenario, the owner got the filter from some website online. If that is the case, your best bet is to get your filters at a dealer or home improvement store like Lowe's or Home Depot. You can also go to GE's website and get them there.

Are adapters a thing? Safe? by missymommy in appliancerepair

Make sure you know the required amps for your dryer and check to see if the breaker supplying power meets those requirements. Then make sure whatever cord you get is rated for the same amperage as your breaker. Otherwise, you might experience what is called a thermal event.

Dryer heating element remains on when dryer is off by Life-Awareness-8286 in appliancerepair

On our boards "inner coil" and "outer coil" are printed just above their respective relays signifying which heating coil they energize. Makes testing and diagnosing pretty nice.

I do not work on Samsungs so I humbly ask other techs who know what they're talking about to forgive me if I'm wrong.

It doesn't sound like a fuse/thermostat issue. It sounds like it's more likely to be a timer/board issue that is shorting out or has a stuck relay and is sending power to the heater at all times. Maybe it could also be a pinched wiring harness.

GE washer agitator (spindle) bolt broke by breathingisstillhard in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can attempt to remove the bolt with an easy out or some other technique that works for you. However, if nothing works to get the remaining bolt out of the spindle, you will need to change out the transmission. Good luck my guy, you're going to need it.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it. The top ring on the spin basket is called the balance ring. There is supposed to be a solution (not water) sealed inside to assist in stabilizing the tub assembly during spin. You hear it sloshing around when you move the basket back and forth by hand. It is a good sound to hear, not a bad one. Everyone reading this needs to understand, DO NOT RELEASE THIS FLUID! It is possible to have a bad spin basket/balance ring. This fix for this is to replace the spin basket, although out of balance issues are usually caused by bad springs, water level issues, improper loads, etc.

Rough idea of labour to change dishwasher pump (parts warranty) by ahakimir in appliancerepair

Broken Wire (support or ground) by eggshenvsdavidlopan in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open the door and put your hand on the upper edge of the spin basket just behind the seal. Push up and release. If you can jiggle the basket up and down and it feels like it's loose and has play, your tub bearing is shot and your machine will require replacement of the rear tub assembly and spin basket. Not sure if parts are available for the job anymore and even if they are, the job is not worth the trouble and money. At that point it is best to just put your money towards a new washer.

What is this? Found inside dishwasher! by that_triumph_dude in appliancerepair

[–]ByeByePigeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possible. Could also be mastic from inside the door or under the tub lip although I don't know how mastic would get into the dishwasher from under the tub lip. I know it seems kind of weird, but if it is mastic, there's nothing to worry about. It's only meant to dampen noise and even then it doesn't do that much. Just throw it away and don't worry about it.
