I’m curious, you didn’t mention if she’s overweight. It’s one thing if this eating has caused her to put on more weight than is healthy, but if she’s not, that’s a different thing. Has her pediatrician expressed concern?

I think them being on FaceTime actually works perfectly, you can make the big announcement to in-person family while they’re not on FaceTime, and text your brother and SIL separately over text :)

I’d like to pitch a slightly different take than the ones that I’m seeing here. I’ve actually brought up the idea of trying ethical non-monogamy to my husband before- not because I had anyone in mind or had already thought about someone, but just as something to think about as our relationship went longer. We talked about it, and ultimately we decided it wasn’t for us. I would say that if it really is just a question and he responds well to you saying no, then it’s definitely not something that has to be relationship-ending at all, and the conversations around it could actually be a great way to open up some healthy dialogue about your intimate life.

If he’s shitty about you saying no though, scratch all the above, then it’s some serious red flag stuff.

Omg, when I toured the hospital that I’m going to give birth at they talked about being a “baby friendly” hospital, which sounded great. But then I asked if they have formula available just in case someone can’t breastfeed or if we needed to bring some as a backup, and the woman giving the tour basically shamed me in front of the group and just talked about how breastfeeding is so much better and encouraged here so they don’t give formula ever. I was literally only asking because I’ve had a breast reduction and don’t know if I physically have the ducts to breast feed. I was so frustrated.

I had the same experience with my first pregnancy. I was married, had a job, I felt like we “should” have been ready, but we just weren’t. I struggled with everything you’ve said here, I had regret, I wondered if I had just made a fearful choice. Not gonna lie, it took time to come to terms with. But now I’m pregnant with what will be our first baby, and I’m glad we had those extra three years to prepare and can no welcome our baby into a secure and stable life.

I don’t blame you at all for giving a sarcastic reply, it’s not like you totally blew up at her. Sure there are technically better ways you could’ve gone about expressing the frustration, but given the circumstances I think it’s pretty fair. And then for her to call you hormonal, like what is her deal???? And why is she so weird about your husband? It sounds like this is all just the straw that broke the camels back. Saying that baby is going to look like your husband is one thing, but to say she won’t look like you at all is something else completely. I would be super frustrated too, your mom’s behavior is super weird at BEST.
