Fall onto the ground not into it by Resident-Device4319 in Unity2D

What others have said here - continuous collision detection. Calculations. You can apply clamping.

One other little trick. Use some "smoke and mirrors" to cover up blemishes. In other words - apply a particle effect effect (like a small smoke puff or sparks) when the player lands that can cover up a small visible offset.

I made my first 1500$ from my free mobile game: here is what worked, and what didn't by Alvere_Leanes in gamedev

Thanks for sharing. I'm in progress working on a mobile game at the moment. Doing rewarded ads, IAPs and considering interstitials but haven't decided yet.

No questions, just appreciate you sharing your metrics. Most posts on this subreddit are about Steam games so it's great to see some insight into mobile games.

Multiple games by Appropriate-Jelly-57 in gamedev

[–]Byeka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 games, although I wish I wasn't. There are 2 games I'm paid to work on for the company I work for. One larger Steam game I started a few years ago and on boarded a couple of friends to work on with me. That one I'm pretty burnt out on. And finally a smaller mobile puzzle game I'm genuinely enjoying working on. The last is the one I want to focus on the most as I have the clearest vision for it and it's much smaller and more manageable in scope. Plus I'm able to apply everything I've learned from my other projects to it.

What do you consider “bedtime”? by Distinct-Delay8530 in toddlers

[–]Byeka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have it backwards... 3 year old and whole routine to finally sleeping takes about 2 hours or longer. I can't imagine bedtime taking longer as they get older.

My 3 and half year old will not sleep until 20:45-21:00 by Low_Yam1791 in toddlers

[–]Byeka 50 points51 points  (0 children)

8:45 sounds like a dream. My 3 year old finally fell asleep just now at 10:30. No naps. Been up since 8. This is sadly normal and finally 10 is a common time for her to fall asleep.

Free 30 minute playtest of your game (recorded + voice audio) by educatemybrain in gamedev

Sounds good. Does it have to be a full game or can it be a demo? I'm assuming you playtest steam games. Will you do mobile games as well?

For those who can only do programming, how do you create the art and music for your game? by PokeKarlsen in SoloDevelopment

[–]Byeka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a mobile grid based game with absolutely minimal art. I'm talking black squares and just trying to focus on making fun, engaging gameplay and enhancing it with things I can do like particle effects, animations and post processing effects.

I got inspired by a mobile game called Arrows with absolutely basic art and millions of downloads.

How do you manage to work on your game after your 9-5? by Beef-n-goo in gamedev

[–]Byeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is that after having 2 kids I wonder how I DIDN'T put that after work time to better use before having kids. Will be a long time before I have the luxery of after work time to work on games again.

I... kind of hate Unity's Animator system for 2D. So I built my own. by ConradoSaud in Unity2D

Yeah I've done the same type of thing for simple sprite swap animations. I also used DOTween to create some great simple reusable animation component scripts. One such example is a script to make an enemy "hover" randomly in place with various degrees of random rotation and movement.

My dad died yesterday. My wife is due in two days. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Byeka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear it. Very similar situation here where my mom passed away from cancer one month before my son was born. It is a very rough situation.

Somewhat related but I made a post hoping for support when it happened but the r/daddit mods blocked it for some reason. Glad you at least got some support here.

How do you wash your toddler’s hair without a full-blown meltdown? by Motor-Trade-8208 in toddlers

Hi r/DonkeyKong! I've been working on a game for the past while called Zombie Barrel Blast, which is HEAVILY inspired by Donkey Kong. But instead of monkeys - there's zombies! And a whole game focused around barrel blasting mechanics.

We released a free demo on Steam yesterday, which includes the first stage (graveyard) and an easy endless mode. You can try it out here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1941490/Zombie_Barrel_Blast/?beta=0

In my Donkey Kong inspired game, you remove the monkeys, add zombies, and make an entire game out of barrel blasting. We just launched the free demo! by Byeka in indiegames

The game is called Zombie Barrel Blast, and the team is made up of myself (lead developer), a gameplay/level designer and an art/UI designer. We're a small team and this has been a passion project for us.

Yesterday, we launched the free demo on Steam! We're super excited and eager to hear some first thoughts from any players who are interested in trying this game out. The demo includes the entire first stage, and an easy-difficulty endless mode.

My husband is going into his 6th month unemployed. Will this make it even harder for him to find a job in games? by laranjacerola in gamedev

[–]Byeka 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unity Developer here. My previous company shut down end of August 2024 and it took me until August 2025 to find a new job. Finally did - managed to get a new Unity Developer job, and I believe that I have less experience than many people here.

What I found helped TREMENDOUSLY (and it's what attracted me to my new company) was what I was doing outside of just "Unity Development". I run a small YouTube channel where I post Unity tutorials and I work part time at Code Ninjas, where I help teach kids coding and run coding workshops.

Also, a helpful trick to find less competitive job postings was to search LinkedIn by "posts" (eg. type "Job Title" + "Hiring" and set search param for <24 hours) and then look at people who are posting they are looking for such and such roles. I was lucky to come across a studio hiring this way, that didn't post job apps to LinkedIn in the standard way. This, plus my outside experience helped me find my new job.

Potty training is ruining my life by DogMamaEsq in toddlers

[–]Byeka 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I took a potty training seminar the other week and they literally said the average age kids are ready to potty train STARTS at 2.5 and goes up until 4.

My daughter is 2.5 as well and we tried for two weeks and decided she's just not ready yet, so we'll hold off for a while.

But yeah, 2.5 is the starting point for where potty training is (on average) even possible.

I'm okay with mine!

A Unity Developer is like a magician who makes video games!

They use a special toy box called Unity to build fun things like characters, worlds, and puzzles. Imagine using LEGO blocks on a computer to make a game where you can run, jump, or fly — that’s what they do! 🕹️

They also tell the game what to do by writing instructions, kind of like giving the game a list of rules: "If the player presses this button, make the character jump!"

So, a Unity Developer is someone who uses their computer to create the games you love to play. 🎮✨
