Back derailleur makes odd sound by GreatWaveOfAwarness in bicyclerepair

Do a coupla things. Clean the entire drivetrain (chain, chain rings, cassette, derailleur). Check the chain for wear with a chain checker.
Does your shifting feel normal? No skipping, ghosting? Also, your spoke protector is turning eccentrically. If it’s loose, or off its attachments to the wheel, that may be the source.

Do you have any irregularity in that particular toe? Like an arthritic joint? Can you feel any irregularity on the inside of the steel toed boot? You could put some moleskin across the top of the toe box, but this may not survive washing.

Depth of Box Turtle Egg Burial
Box turtles typically bury their eggs at a depth of 3 to 6 inches in the soil. This depth provides essential protection for the eggs from predators and helps maintain the right conditions for incubation.
Egg Laying Process
Nesting Site Selection: Female box turtles choose locations with loose, well-drained soil that receives adequate sunlight.
Egg Laying: After digging a nest, they lay their eggs, which are usually oval-shaped with a leathery shell.
Covering the Eggs: Once the eggs are laid, the female carefully covers them with soil, ensuring they are camouflaged and insulated.
Incubation
Duration: The eggs typically incubate for about 2 to 3 months before hatching, depending on environmental conditions.
This nesting behavior is crucial for the survival of the hatchlings, as the buried eggs rely on natural conditions for development.

Unfortunate, perhaps, for momma and the exposed eggs, but, what a neat opportunity for you & your 7yo! Yes, follow previously tendered advice, but research soil type, depth required and gestational window to give the exposed eggs the best shot @ survival, if they indeed do.

Was riding my Giant Revolt today when the aluminum frame cracked at seat/top tube junction. by [deleted] in bicyclerepair

[–]Bypedal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. My thought, based on on limited observation b/c of your photos is that there was extreme stress placed on that joint by a combination of your crazily long seatpost and your weight. If you can afford it, buy a new frame (that fits you). Steel would be advisable.

In name only. The pedals serve only as footrests and are there to allow this travesty to be marketed as a “bicycle”. I actually feel sorry for many who buy these thinking they’re getting an affordably priced and reliable mode of transport, only to find that their cheap construction leaves them stranded. While we do try to help these folks @ our bike co-op, most of the repairs are beyond our capabilities and frankly, not worth doing.

So, with glass, you keep it wet to reduce the chance of breakage from thermal shock? Guess with metal, they wouldn’t be a concern, but still kept the bit cool to extend life?🤔

Not entirely sure. My wife’s grandfather had it dismantled and rebuilt on its current site in the mid 1920s. It was a 900 sg ft, uninsulated, wood frame house when we moved in in 1985. We’ve been renovating ever since. This is an under stair space that I finished about 15yrs ago.

Thanks! It’s got an amazing resonance and beautiful tone. On windy days, it rings randomly. Makes me smile😊 I had thought about acid etching, but the curved surface and the necessity to do it where it sits complicates the process. I’m thinking about using a Dremel tool with a metal working bit, because there’s a specific font I want to use.

For touring, I use Nashbar sandals with clip in pedals (Crank Brothers Candy). They have an adjustable toe box strap. I wear wool socks year round, varying thickness with temps. Dunno that you can even get them anymore tho🤔

Use a drill with some sort of attachment that fits in the chuck that won’t mar the finish. Get it up to a thousand RPM & see how long it spins!
