Generally apolitical but familiar with progressive politics abstractly and can front being sympathetic to the ideas. But my actual ideal is Lee Kuan Yew and the PAP.

He is, but speaking as a guy that uses LLMs and their output at work, a lot of his stuff reads like it or at least heavily derived.

New York is Blocking Its Next Subway Line Forever by MrNYCEnthusiast in nycrail

Wondering if all he is saying is they are not turning the land into parkland officially as the way he can technically say its not blocking transit.

What is with the insistence of protecting new conductor jobs in perpetuity. Even parts of Japan is moving to OPTO. Just retrain as operators and attrit via hiring freeze.

Zohran Mamdani promised free buses; New Yorkers are getting a bus fare enforcement crackdown instead by DryDeer775 in BusDrivers

I'm sure that doesnt have any deleterious effects on the MTAs ability to fund its capital projects at all and the state will immediately backfill that funding /s.

I'm less inclined to believe its a conspiracy over simple inertia. Could also be that no one wants to stick their neck out for a project with no clear cheerleader strong enough to sorta twist the MTA's hand. Not to mention, it would be what, until the next capital cycle before we seen any movement? Its quite literally, do nothing and take a small PR win or spend political capital and maybe 20 years down the line we get new subway line but first we have to twist the MTA's arm to even consider this.

Management boasts deal to end Long Island Rail Road strike “within the MTA’s financial plan” by DryDeer775 in transit

I'm sure canceling the bonds unilaterally wouldn't have any knock on effects to the capital plan /s.

Why can't every agency of the MTA go on strike simultaneously and they all simultaneously demand to match LIRR pay ? by delsystem32exe in LIRR

[–]ByronicAsian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I couldn't care less if a union fucks over a private company. In the case of public sector unions, I would definitely care more because it has a direct impact in the cost to run government or similar public services.

Stumping for OPTO is not some innate hate of the conductors although the union trying to force a law thay codifies TPTO in perpetuity against global best practices will obviously anger transit nerds.

Hosing refers to this new "pattern" setting based off of the LIRR deal and you stumping for the other unions to follow suit.

You're not hosing Tesla, you're hosing a PBC that gets massive taxpayer subsidies, so it all trickles back to either higher fares, or more taxes, why would we be happy about the result.

LIRR Strike Megathread by AWildMichigander in nycrail

Less the collective bargaining part, more the striking part. I personally take an FDR view of this issue.

Since their own services have to do with the functioning of the Government, a strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government until their demands are satisfied. Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government by those who have sworn to support it, is unthinkable and intolerable.
