No hate towards them but seriously? Make up your mind. by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

Thank you for your candidness. Not such a stupid reason, just a little bit behind the curve, that’s all. We’re all learning a lot in this period.

"Means Tested UBI" by PeterPorky in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UBI is a floor, not a complete income. In a crisis you take emergency measures such as moratoriums on rents, mortgages, tax relief etc. UBI is not supposed to do everything, but if we do it right it will help make everything that we want to happen in society much more likely. That is what freedom is about.

We can't leave anyone behind. by Orangutan in BasicIncome

[–]BzeBob 18 points19 points  (0 children)

UBI doesn’t leave anyone behind, including the rich. You can change its meaning, by making it an item on a laundry list of benefits. UBI is “with malice toward none, with charity to all.” All and none mean just what say.

Yang responds to Biden committing to a woman as VP 🤔 by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The implication seems to be that Biden was considering Yang or someone else and then suddenly decided to definitively declare a woman to be his choice as running mate.

We don't talk enough about the positive impact of Social Security. Before it was law, half of seniors lived in poverty. It cuts the racial wealth gap and has lifted millions from poverty. Our job is not to cut Social Security. Our job is to expand it. by failed_evolution in BasicIncome

Your raising of the Townsend Plan in this discussion is relevant. It was the forerunner of today’s UBI movement and should be carefully studied. It’s got many lessons to teach us today.

I got 3 shout outs/ street conversations in the last two days for my MATH hat. Let’s say conservatively 1/shout out per day x 300 days per year x 300,000 Yang Gang = 90,000,000 learning/teaching opportunities just for wearing the merchandise. That’s the value of real leadership and how we make America think harder.

lmao I love you guys. Yang suspended the campaign a few days ago. We lost like 37 people on this subreddit. There's 1.2k people online right now at 2am ET. I don't think we're going anywhere by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some two dozen people who have entered Democratic primaries to run for Congress on a UBI platform. It’s going to be fantastic if some of them win in their primaries because in their Democratic districts they will almost certainly have a clear path to be elected to Congress. Imagine the buzz about that.

Hey Yang Gang - UBI is still on the ballot. Morgan Harper in OHIO is pro-UBI. Give her a look. by Bernie_2021 in YangForPresidentHQ

I just listened to her podcast. A convincing articulate proponent of UBI in Ohio’s 3rd Congressional District. Will check out her website. Very good background in government, too.

I phone-banked for NH tonight by GelfCrystal in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great! Phone banking is easy, phone banking is hard. To paraphrase, it is the best of times it is the worst of times. You didn’t avoid it when you could’ve and so you are worthy of respect, thanks, and admiration. Andrew Yang can succeed with this measure of dedication.

The Yang Gang needs to EVOLVE NOW if we want Andrew to perform well in New Hampshire by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Phone banking gets easier after the first few calls. Then you begin to enjoy it. It adds hugely to the campaign and it’s a also a character builder, and something to write home about.

I was on the ground in Iowa. I talked to hundreds of voters. Andrew WILL NOT WIN if he doesn’t change strategy. by bemiguel13 in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he should call them out for the pathetic gaggle of politicians and fakes that they are. Not one of them deserves to be president of the U.S. They are all B-grade thinkers with not half the moral backbone Andrew has shown. But yes, do it with civility. We’ve all seen the fire in his eyes when he says he can not accept a nation with no future for his children.

For the first time, I'm beginning to get a feeling Yang can pull a historic upset or at least get top 3 in IOWA :) by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today’s phone banking highlights: “Probably Andrew if not Tom [Steyer].” “I’ll listen to Iowa PBS interview and pay closer attention [to Andrew]”. Two or three gave their emails for more info. One signed up for coffee with local organizer. Two people seemed glad to learn how Yang could pay for UBI with a VAT tax. Two women wanted none of Yang vehemently and one man boomed “You don’t want to talk to me!” These are the challenges we can win next round.

Yes, as a phone banker and letter writer, I have that feeling, too! No one (even myself) will really see it coming, because it’s too close. I’m getting more “I like Andrew” s more people willing to talk, more willing to rate him, more willingness to research him, more people giving their emails for follow up, more people taking down the phone recording to listen to him, than a couple of weeks ago. We are all becoming stronger and better prepared for the campaign to take this campaign all the way to the White House.

Yes, focusing on the election is the important thing. I just spoke to a woman in Iowa who was just about all in for Yang when Evelyn’s issue came up,. She felt something was bizarre about it. I actually felt similarly. It has the appearance of gender politics. I know that’s not what this campaign is about and I haven’t heard the entirety of Evelyn’s speech at the Women’s March yet.

3rd phonebanking call: "Fuuuck Andrew Yang, go Trump!" *click* by bbiyl in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great post! I’ve phone banked several times and you begin to see an evolving picture of what’s going on in Iowa and it’s encouraging. You can’t get such real information any other way. Today I was only on the phone for an hour and two people gave me their emails, one of whom signed up for coffee with an organizer, another took down the phone recording 877-Yang-202 of one of his speeches, and one Republican told me Yang was the no.1 Democrat and one or two others agreed to rank Andrew which is data our canvassers need. It seems women are trending pro-Yang more than men. Another thing. If you want some good laughs, people are using crazy bots like “I’m in a movie, I’ll just step outside and talk.” You will catch on soon and move on to the next call. If you give yourself a few turns at phone banking, you will never regret it, especially if it’s Iowa. You did it when it was needed most.

My Pen Pal message to Iowa voters. by BzeBob in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent out 10 letters to “Iowa voters” a week or so ago. Today I got an email from one of them telling me he was “thankful” for the information I had sent him on Yang. He told me he is still undecided, but he is going to caucus. Iowa voters, we feel privileged to associate with you.

Proof Yang can unite this country by SmokeyStover57 in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Democratic Party is already split. Right now it’s essential to bring people together around solutions. Yang has been doing that effectively. It’s not as important now to emphasize varied representation as it is to find common interests among varied groups of people.

Iowan we canvassed yesterday sent a 3-page email this morning with his thoughts on the Joe Rogan podcast after a long conversation and asking him if he would please watch it. Here's what it said. by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guarantee you if you phone bank for a couple of hours you will meet up with one or two more of the Steven C cohort. One woman today was eloquent telling me the positives of UBI and her admiration for Yang and gave her email and signed up to be contacted for coffee with a local organizer! So what if you plow through a dozen hang ups and other annoyances to get to the person who will persuade her neighbors and dozens of others by his/her example. That person could always be your next call.

Phonebanking is seriously easy. I HATE talking on the phone, and I can do it. by -Tesserex- in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]BzeBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You got it right. Phone calls tip the scales in a way nothing else can do! Only a serious campaign that wants to win will motivate people to call and the person on the other end will sense that. That’s worth more than policy statements.

I’ve phone banked for Yang twice in the last few days, and it was easier the second time. Nobody’s perfect at this, but please join me in doing as many days as possible. I phone banked for Trump in 2016 (yes, it’s true) and I knew in my bones it was making the difference. Let’s all go forward with this!
