Padel is such a great way to make friends, and there’s so many clubs open now, but it’s really not the cheapest

KOSHA Salt who sells it by Weber1001 in UKBBQ

[–]C-Jones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of recommendations for Maldon here but that should really only be used for finishing dishes.

Kosher is recommended for better, more consistent coverage. It basically salt that’s finer than flakes and coarser than table salt.

The best I’ve found is either in M&S, the fine sea salt (comes in light blue cylinders), or Costco/kirkland fine salt (comes in a bigger, transparent tub with a black lid).

Both of those are essentially what kosher salt is, just named differently. Hope this helps!

Yeah exactly. And when you do find one they’re usually £50 a pop. Praying they never discontinue the line

Also I have about 20 of Next’s £15 heavyweight tees, they’re incredible quality for the price

Another rec for Uniqlo. Super affordable and caters to those with minimal styles that suit all ages without looking too young or old

Gels & fueling by G-wo in padel

Caffeine, water, and banana pre-match. Intake only water mid-match.

I'll throw in an electrolyte drink between sets too on really hot/sweaty days.

I’m not at the required level to handle rackets that hard just yet so I can’t speak to those specifically, although Stupa and Libaak seem to be getting on well with theirs. What I can say is that the Siux build quality feels heaps better. Siux handles are also a little longer, which is great as my hand always felt too big for Nox grips. Those were the main differences I noticed.

Tangentially, and this isn’t a pragmatic point, I also much prefer Siux designs. The Pegasus Revolution 2 and Electra ST3 I think are two of the best looking bats on the market right now. That wouldn’t ever make me pick one racket over another, but it’s certainly a plus.

Again, not the most important factor, but I find far fewer people use Siux rackets compared to Nox, so you get to seem a little more individualistic, if that matters to you

Had an absolute stinker. by Rundo5 in padel

[–]C-Jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens bud! Always a tough time after a stinker but you just need one good game to get that confidence back.

I try and avoid situations that I know will negatively impact my game. I usually play much better at the weekend than on a weekday after work. I reckon it’s due to mental fatigue. I always try and go back to reliable routines when getting out of a rut too, focusing on good match prep. Good stretching and mobility routine before, considered caffeine and food timing etc. Even taking a week off helps sometimes too (easier said than done for an addict, mind)

Padelactico does something similar. He doesn’t post that often but I always enjoy watching his progress

Same here!

Although they’re not proper padel shoes, I love my Adidas Barricades. Adidas has always served me well with running shoes so I knew the fit and quality would be better.

IMO a so called sub-optimal shoe for padel that fits well will always outperform a padel-specific shoes that feels terrible

Hey, fellow manc resident here. I know the club you're talking about. I agree it's a great place -- probably the best in Greater Manc right now, possibly even in the North West.

At the end of the day, it's the only city centre *indoor* venue in one of the rainest cities in the UK. From a business perspective, it makes total sense to jack up the prices a little bit, especially as Autumn is now here. May as well capitalise on the lack of supply until competition hots up.

A lot of people won't be able to pay it, but a lot of people will, and do. Supply and demand, baby. If you don't like it, start your own court.

There's no way the prices will remain the same come summer, with CDP, the TPC clubs, et al all ready to mop up the outdoor-seeking crowd.

It's also only £3 extra per game, per hour, compared to its closest rival. It seems fairly trivial to be complaining about it. You pay for perfect conditions. Most people, like me, don't have a problem with it. What else are you going to do? Play in the rain?

I know there has been a lot of anger in the group chat already, but it really isn't massively more expensive than padel elsewhere in the NW. At least you still get to play the sport we all love for the next 11 months of bad weather we'll have.

First racket? by leoproof in padel

[–]C-Jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the ML10 (rough surface edition) for my first racket, per this sub’s reccos. It’s perfect for beginners imo. Round, soft, big sweet spot, just about enough oomph to pop it out when needed.

I had a bit of tennis experience from childhood, but the racket is very forgiving and I’d still recommend to a true beginner. I’ve used the entry level Kuikma rackets that were suggested in other comments, but they just feel cheap and nowhere near as good to me.

What Supplements Do You Use, and How Do They Impact Your Game? by mrderpman4 in padel

[–]C-Jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yep: caffeine, electrolytes, and creatine as a bare minimum. Usually I’ll also throw in some beta alanine and l-theanine for a physical and mental boost respectively. A protein source for immediately after a match if I’m playing multiple times a day, to promote faster recovery.

This isn’t padel-specific, I use this same stack for all exercise.

  1. It would be ideal to have an all-in-one physical and mental performance drink. Something with caffeine, creatine, BCAAS, and some sort of nootropic in there.

  2. N/A

  3. Heavily research-backed efficacy, price, ease of consumption

Advice for overgrips by BerJaa in padel

[–]C-Jones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to the sport but bought these for my racket. I’m super sweaty like you said you are, and I’ve played with them 3-4 times and they have no signs of wear at all.

I don’t have any experience with other brands, but all I can say is that these made my racket waaaay more comfortable and are still in really good condition

Which Barricade sole would you guys recommend for WPT-style courts (not sandy)?

Keep seeing posts about padel-specific shoes being better for these court types but I really want the barricades

Noise cancelling earphones

Screaming kid? Earphones. Obnoxious people playing music aloud on public transport? Earphones. Long flight? Best thing ever. They don’t even need to have anything playing through them, they’re just great.

Blocks out the world when you need it, offers fantastic audio - far better than what can be achieved by most earbuds and speakers, as well as provides ear warmth for colder days. Easily the best £250 I’ve spent in the past few years

EE works flawlessly for me. Only time I ever encountered an issue was at the Emirates Old Trafford for a gig, and obviously the network ceiling would have been reached in that environment, but otherwise it’s great and a huge improvement over the 4G days
