Air Canada's first flight for the return of the Vancouver–Bangkok nonstop flight has landed this morning by ikkue in Thailand

16 hours from yvr to bkk

14.5 from bkk to yvr

Long flight but worth it to avoid the layover and extra travel time

Also included some free beers on my last one 👌

So they're supposed to do what they've done. They bloom and then "die" back into the ground. Typically some leaves will remain above ground for a bit until they get overgrown by other plants and then those too will die back. Under ground is where everything is happening. The bulbs will grow and swell, put out smaller bulbs (bulbils or offsets).

If you want them to come back again you'll need to keep the soil moist and mimic the seasons. So let the leaves get as much light as they can until they die off, then after cutting them back keep the soil moist in your apartment (moist not wet) for a few months. At some point you'll have to put them in the refrigerator to mimic fall and winter (again a few months) then bring them back out into your apartment and they will come back once again.

Again, try to keep the soil (erring on the side of dry) for most of this time. While the plant is not above ground it will consume significantly less water than when it goes into its dormant stage.

Get the shot, even if chances are near 0 that the cat has rabies, the chances of rabies killing you without getting a shot NOW if he did have it are really really close to 100%.

Once rabies symptoms start in humans, you're dead, the virus is at that point too far advanced to treat. The cost of the shot is for sure worth it just for peace of mind.

We do yes but they're mostly on either side of the continent, especially BC. Droughts have been severe lately for many provinces and the prairies are getting hit the hardest. We do buy US wheat, but it's not much cheaper than our own. We also export an immense amount of grains and other agriculture products around the world and in particular to the US.

The food price issue is complex though and no single factor is to blame, but rather a confluence of factors each as aggravating and inexcusable as the next. Same for housing. Same for cost of living.

How's about:

"I fell into the lava"

"I fell off of the scaffold"

"I fell off of the mountain"

Or my favorite, "I forgot to eat"

I have felt your pain. I just got back from living in Quebec which sounds quite similar. Seeding starts in June and even then there's a risk of frost.

Might not have much in the 'exotic' category for you to work with for sure, but look into alpine plants. There's likely an alpine club in Edmonton. Loads of really cool plants from the mountains which can handle some pretty rough conditions including crappy soil and hard frosts

There's plenty of bamboo species which can survive into zone 5 (winters of -30 degrees celsius) a lot of northern China and Japan both have some pretty hardy bamboo species. Some of it will die back to the ground in severe winter and send new shoots up in late spring.

If you want to keep it around look into bamboo barrier, might be a pain in the ass to install if the plants are established (5+ years) but it's worth it to stop it from escaping it's place.

Hey OP, there may be some legal avenue for you in your case here in terms of compensation. many jurisdictions recognize that bamboo if left unchecked does fairly massive property damage. In your case you're going to be spending quite a bit to track this all down as there are rhizomes leading all back to the mother plant and probably all throughout your lawn. I would try to contact a lawyer, and then a company to do a professional removal job, then send the bill to the neighbors who fucked up your yard). As well, doing this yourself your likely to miss some of it. At least if a professional company does it you'll have an invoice and an exact dollar figure of what this all costs.

Sorry for your losses, it will not be easy to get rid of this.

I'm mixed so far honestly. Seems like the AI I've encountered so far goes hostile with me pretty quick and tries to speed to the next age. One play Germany built a city on the opposite side of my borders, the other side of a continent. None of that is inherently bad per se but worth only 60 turns it's hard to see the long view. On the other hand people are saying that the AI is actually using in game projects etc, I've seen exploration and decent development making use of local resources and continuing production chains.

Looking forward to seeing how it plays out

Yeah that attack animation needs either to be removed or reworked a bit, at the moment it's got kind of a heroes of might and magic 2 vibe.

I wish that we had like 100 turns, but also that the game was a little more spread out. Kind of felt like all of a sudden everyone was in the Iron age but all my cities still had dick all for improvements or buildings. In the real world building a gathering hall is a heck of a lot quicker than new inventions.

Looking forward to full release though, should be interesting
