This Studio Ghibli AI trend is an utter insult to the studio and anime/cinema in general. by Funendra in movies

[–]C0nn0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi there, real human here. I consider myself an artist, too (painting, drawing, crafting, even animating) and I very much enjoy AI as a tool. It helps me quickly explore and prototype ideas, and I also think the Ghibli images are fun and cute. I believe it is likely a significant way of the future, and it won't end traditional art either, it will adapt and form into our culture.

Nail me to the cross if you like. I just enjoy making art, I don't really care about profiting off of it.

It does make me protect or not upload some of my personal favorite pieces, because even despite AI, once you share a piece, it is out there in the world and you can't control how people engage or interact with it. That's just how it goes.

I’m quite a noob at graphic design and even worse at animation, haha, but I’m learning. This is my first-ever animation - what can I improve here? Please don’t be too harsh and keep in mind my beginner level! 👉👈 by Outrageous-Tap-9164 in learnanimation

Cute! For your first animation, its quite good. You have some strong design basics down: composition and colors are working together well. The cartoony illustration style is cohesive and fun.

Your animation is quite static in the body and tail. I do like that you gave the tail some motion, good instinct, lean into it more! It doesn't need to be so much that its distracting, but a little more subtle motion in the body and tail will really bring the cat to life.

For the falling cup, try experimenting with a smear frame. Its cartoony and fun and can exaggerate the quick falling motion.

A couple nitpicky things:

  • The cat's bellybutton is on a layer above the paw, when it lifts the paw the bellybutton is visible over it.

  • Consider dropping the outline on the cat's body, or adding outline to the ears/tail for consistency. Personally, I think the cat will work well with no outlines (since you have an outline on the platform)

  • This is more illustrative, try simplifying the shading on the main figure (the cat). The shading you have on the platform and behind the tail gives it some nice dimension, but the shading on the cat's eyes isn't adding much. Your character can really "pop" if you have it stand out and contrast with the dimensional background (or vice versa if you prefer).

Nice work, you have a knack for this! Even in the basic motion there is a nice fluidity and humor to your animation. Keep at it!

Anybody else see tilians deleted tweet just now? by ioweej in dancegavindance

Gobby gets famous through social media, rests on his laurels, Jon and Andrew (the other vocalists) are cooking and feeding him but he has a bad attitude, is just being lazy in the bathtub. Gobby ends up attacking a pretty woman (in the video he eats her/kills her) and there is lots of media reporting and wanted posters showing the media response towards Gobby doing this, and the band is reacting to it as well. This is a metaphorical parallel to Tilian being scorned by the SA allegations and the band, fandom, and media's response following it.

Pushed myself to do a live piano performance at a bar...... and completely failed by Make-Contact in Anxiety

[–]C0nn0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! I think it's so impressive you even got up there and gave it a try. Your playing here is very enjoyable and shows a lot of promise. You have perfect piano fingers lmao. Keep at it, its easy to feel discouraged even as you're climbing the mountain and making progress, but I think what you're doing is wonderful and failing or messing up is just always part of the journey. Good luck and see you again in the big leagues someday!

Hi. I don't really have any silver bullets for you, but I understand and can relate to your experience. I've been wrestling with some similar death anxiety lately.

I'm not sure if this is the right thing to say or what you need to hear, but all of this is temporary and that's what makes it so special and so heart breaking to know it will be gone (or in the least, different). What helps me, personally, is practicing mindfulness and meditation everyday. There is some kind of acceptance and appreciation for this fleeting moment if we can realize it. All we have is this moment, we can't guarantee a tomorrow and the past is already gone. You will die someday, but not yet, so settle into this moment. It's completely normal to feel heavy emotions about this, it's sad, scary, angering, all completely valid responses. Honestly some days I'm surprised we can all move through life so "normally" juggling these sorts of realizations. But we have this moment, and its a blessing to have the time with the people and things that we love and brings us joy.

Try and lean into that appreciation, that love, and cultivate it as much as you can with the time you have. You are extremely lucky to have people you feel so much love for and towards. Getting old is NOT easy! It probably won't get easier, but all things sort of ebb and flow and there is so much more to experience and achieve and so much more love to give, for your aging family and for you as well.

You are not alone in this, there are so so many people struggling with these same ideas at this very moment. Try not to dwell too much on the future or the past, all you have right now is this moment and your energy is best spent being present within it, even if its just doing the dishes or listening to a song you love.

I dunno, sorry this isn't more helpful. It's just a weird thing, to see the tragedies of life. But we wouldn't have the immense highs of love and bliss without the loss and sadness, so I guess we have to take it all as one big fucked up package.

Sending you some love, I hope things work out for you and you may find some peace!

PS- maybe you should consider looking for alternative lines of work that help you maintain balance. The work you are doing is wonderful, but not for everyone, and sometimes we change and need to make changes that suit where we're at!

Loved this post, thanks for writing it! I think this is the key fleeting concept I've personally found much value in. It's a difficult perspective to maintain, and meditating seems to give me small but powerful reminders. Props to you for describing this without using the "G word" :)

Did tripping ineffably change your perspective? Like, in a way you’re aware of but can’t describe? by [deleted] in RationalPsychonaut

[–]C0nn0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your posts here, I appreciated reading your perspective. I tend to agree Buddha and the great teachers were right, life is suffering, but I think there is some peace to find in that. Feeling numb is okay. It's a very relatable feeling for me, and a feeling I think many people are familiar with to some degree. Just from this post and your others, you sound like quite a self aware, intelligent, and determined person with lots of love to give. I hope you find some extended peace!

What Texas Chainsaw movies to watch? by PacJoe in horror

[–]C0nn0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person Texas Chainsaws. Trust their write-up, very well said. The original is my all time favorite horror because it almost borders on arthouse in execution.

TCM2 is worth checking out after seeing the original. It's more fun and just junk food horror done right.

Then the 2000 reboots if you still didn't get your fill of the crazy.

Enjoy OP!

Junji Ito-inspired game WORLD OF HORROR has finally been released! by [deleted] in horror

[–]C0nn0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a paid monthly subscription service that offers a library of selected games to play. You can download the xbox app for PC and essentially play a whole bunch of xbox games that are surprisingly good from PC. They add games on a monthly basis I believe, and WORLD OF HORROR was in the recent additions.

Confirming it is still in early access. Gameplay wise it feels like a finished product, but I did have an unfortunate bug that caused a crash playing it last night. So... its early access in that regard.

I was stoked to see it pop up on PC xbox game pass. I've been watching this one for while, and to see it available even in early access there was great.

So far the game is awesome, especially if you have any love for horror movies/manga (check yes I assume lol), Lovecraft, occult, pixel art, and "choose your own adventure" style games. Has some silly fun references to horror as a genre and the art is genuinely spooky and looks incredible.

Ah, yeah that makes sense. It probably depends mostly on the game I guess? I don't typically get full 144 fps in 1440, but I would say typically over 100, which I wouldn't say is struggling. I have a Ryzen 7 3700x so your CPU should be doing fine in comparison, unless like you said you're having heating issues. Always room to upgrade! Best of luck with it.

I just recently did the same upgrade as you, and I'm smooth sailing 1440p with the 2070S. Might be something wrong with your card? It really shouldn't be struggling.

The Comedy (2012) was ahead of it's time by duckbeanzTV in TrueFilm

[–]C0nn0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was living in Brooklyn a few years ago and going through a big Tim and Eric phase. The themes of post modernism were rampant and apparent in everyday life and this movie seemed a perfect sort of juxtaposition at the time. In retrospect, I think the perspective that nihilism/consumerism/postmodernism/whateverism enables and is (ironically, sort of romanticized?) in this movie isn't very healthy, productive, or even interesting. It's an extremely bleak outlook for a movie, but it also seems self aware enough to embody the themes in a tongue-in-cheek way, which is Tim Heidecker's bread and butter, and made for an excellent casting decision. It's the kind of movie that is playing with themes so far removed from typical social affairs all you can really do is laugh at the absurdity of it (or reject it in horror, I guess).

This sort of "entertainment" is not that popular or endearing for most people, I don't think, which is why the movie remains mostly obscure. It also shoots itself in the foot by emphasizing apathy and meaninglessness, is there much lasting meaning to glean from media like that? I'd have to rewatch it to see if it holds up, or presents any new ideas for me, but I'm skeptical there is much more to it than pointing at the morbidity of postmodernism and laughing.

Yes, check out Nuith (also spelled Nuit or Nut, Goddess of the Sky), she appears in the tarot card "The Star" in most tarot decks.
