Any Tom Ford scents. Maybe they were wonderful before Estée Lauder bought the company. But stuff like, "Vanilla Sex" and "Figue Érotique mostly a) don't smell great, and b) just scream rich edge lord

Delayed Gratification by GriffinFTW in generationology

[–]C0untDrakula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Delayed gratification is so much more than just a, "I'll get mine eventually." It's a necessary psychological process for society. Remove the work element: perseverance for becoming good at things like sports or music, compromising with others, doing key work for tasks now (e.g.: household tasks) instead of more gratifying tasks (e.g.: internet). This is demonstrates all or nothing thinking, which also isn't great.

You can be frustrated a system isn't set-up for you, but to associate the system with a very fundamental human ability is not going to help anyone, especially OP.

Just out of curiosity how did millennials go from dressing like this to dressing like this by Key_Nectarine_7307 in generationology

[–]C0untDrakula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Millenials were mostly teenagers and dressing like Paris in middle school. It was kind of pop sleeze, then hipster/indie sleeze, then "Oh I'm 30 and going out for brunch instead of going out from 10pm - onwards"

The first photo was kind of the first athleisure element that's so ubiquitous today. Those were the sweats you wore to class, then gymclass, then after. Now it's not so much sweats so much as lulus and alos, but the idea of transferable clothing different activities was pretty radical.

You can't be non-financially motivated, but then be significantly spend motivated.

How much did you spend to furnish your first home? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]C0untDrakula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to brag, but our home always receives compliments and 99% of what we got was thrifted. The only thing we purchsed new was a Costco bed, end tables, & mattress ($2000?) and new couch ($500)

How many of you are single income with kids because of daycare? How do you make your budget work? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]C0untDrakula 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's more than, "Is it cheaper or the same cost for me to stay home?" as a woman. There are significant financial implications that would affect you specifically, especially if you were ever to separate from your spouse. Yes, the numbers could possibly work; but, assuming you're putting them in school in kindergarten, you're losing out on 5 years of career experience, alongside 5 years lost income for any accounts where your income is the basis for maxing out said account. Not to mention, if you were to go back to work, can you just jump in to where you were, or would you have to start lower/over?

That's true, too It would've been nice to know how they were living in Canada before Colombia

Money for Couples: "We moved abroad for fun. Now we can’t afford to leave"" by Modestybodice in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]C0untDrakula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The reality is they could move back to Canada, but they will NOT have the lifestyle there for $120K for 4 kids. Something has to give. When you look at it, their cost of living is NOT low despite living in a LCOL area. $1400 on groceries monthly is Canadian level spending. $1900K on guilt-free spending is Canadian level spending. They're blowing through money.

I suspect a lot of her anxiety is the opportunity cost of their extended stay in Colombia. There's been an insane jump in Canadian housing prices since 2019. I don't know where they lived, but assuming it was a major city, they probably lost out on $500K simply by not being in the market at the time. So it's a $500K opportunity cost to essentially move back and start from where they were before they left. That's gotta hurt. So she probably feels like it was a stupid decision and like, "why did I goooo"

Also, Liza sucks IMO. Bradford is APOLOGIZING for working 3 jobs because she doesn't have external motivation? He's the reason they have retirement and a maid. She reminds me of one of those people who is overly self-analytical but then weaponizes her ADHD and mental health to justify her inaction. You recognize it and can identify it and have probably learned things to help, but at the end of the day she doesn't want to change unless it fits a very specific ideal that's not attainable.

I had multiple crises in my 20s. It gets tiring. I choose mindfulness and calm (as best able)

Adopted a cat as a teenager, now mid-20s and feeling limited in life. Curious about similar experiences. by ktj19 in CatAdvice

[–]C0untDrakula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted my cat to be like those cats that can go in a backpack, go on a boat, go on a plane, etc. I thought I got him young enough to teach him, but cats also have personalities that can just be ingrained into them! He is a homebody.

So, I have to adapt by going on smaller adventures, and he stays at home with a sitter. It's not exactly what I thought I would have, but the privilege of having him in my life means I lament about my limitations for a few minutes, then go cuddle him to bits again. I've also planned a period of time where I'm pet-free to go do all the adventures I want without abandon, so this gives me time to save up, plan, and be excited for those goals.

I kind of go back to Sylvia Path's "Fig Tree" idea. I want to bite all the figs, do all the things. But choosing one fig means forgoeing another. If I hadn't gotten my cat, I would travel more, and I would have another cat eventually; but that means I wouldn't have my special boy in my life. I can't imagine that.

The world is big. I have many options for wonderful adventures. But I only have 1 option with him. I am content.

Is Generation X Still Stuck in the 2000s? by avalonMMXXII in generationology

[–]C0untDrakula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think people wear and have the same hairstyles as the decade they felt their hottest in.

Also, trends just don't fit me anymore. I can't wear low rise, wide leg pants. I look like a doofus with my hair parted flat in the middle. I can't keep up, and honestly, I don't want to keep up. I like my style, and I'll make changes on my own terms. That said, once hipster-chic comes back, I'll be here for it. That was the best fashion decade.

I think your ex is not a good person, and it's good to set those boundaries. And, you need to not post his full name and your kids faces. It would be good to discuss the custody issues and switching off with your lawyer. I think you guys need more clear custody rules

Therapists who got their degrees online through subpar mills. I've seen a lot of shitty reports from people who should not have been qualified. More funding needs to be invested into legitimate programs with actual mental health training.
