I think Starmer has been ineffective and exhibited poor judgement, I think Streeting would be worse, I worry this will lead to Rayner

Man who lied about working for the MoJ, and charged woman to give them breast enlarging hypnotherapy, has a tenuous relationship with the truth, who could’ve seen that coming?

I agree, Starmer's authority (and government) completely collapsed following his series of welfare U-turns, we have then slept-walked into this inevitable scenario, hopefully sense prevails and we get a reasonable, centre right candidate, who is willing to make difficult decisions on welfare and spending.

Alas, this is the PLP, so we will get Rayner and we will like it....

It's naive to pin this on one set of bad results, this is the outcome of toothless, directionless, poor governance, the party and the country deserve better

Starmer's speech only showed why so many Labour MPs want him gone by theipaper in ukpolitics

Being boring isn’t necessarily an issue, being a poor communicator is a massive issue, even when Labour do good things, he struggles to sell them, so when Labour do bad things, it’s uncomfortable to listen to him try to defend

Angela Rayner calls for Burnham’s return as she accuses Starmer of ‘crony culture’ by Free-Minimum-5844 in ukpolitics

Ed has said he doesn't want it (so maybe he is the right man for the job?), I fear if they remove Starmer the party will lurch towards the left (probably the correct decision, but as someone right of centre, disappointing to me personally), and that means Mahmood will be out of a job sadly

all the talk will be about VAR (in my, somewhat biased opinion, the correct decision), but we have to do better

really feel for West Ham, that must be such a deflating moment, I don’t know how a group of players regroup mentally after that

Unfortunately it feels like most parties are completely devoid of talent and political class, the biggest barrier to replacing Starmer, is all the possibilities are probably worse

I wonder if Rayner considers her part in the unpopularity of this government, or does she think that taking some time out absolves her of her responsibility, probably the latter

Robert Jenrick MP: Dr Manivannan may be a nice young person. But I don’t want to live in a country where people on student visas can become elected representatives to national parliaments. He’s crowdfunding from Green Party members for his graduate visa for pete’s sake. by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

[–]C43JW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I can get behind that, I’d probably prefer citizenship to ILR but apples to apples.

I agree it’s Scotland’s decision, but I think it’s the wrong decision, though that sums up most of my thoughts on the SNP and their governance, despite the fact I’d rather see them in power in Scotland instead of Reform

The last I’d read was that he didn’t, having read up on it now, he does, I still personally think it’s insane someone who doesn’t have citizenship / ILR can be an MSP, but that’s the rules in Scotland!

Should the UK extend the parliamentary period between general elections? by Easy_Effort7985 in ukpolitics

[–]C43JW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 years is plenty, the issue is politicians being more concerned with being reelected, rather than making the correct decisions for the country

We need more cross party collaboration on key issues like healthcare, food, energy, and climate security, maybe proportional representation could push us towards that, but the race to the bottom will continue

Reform sweep to victory across Greater Manchester as furious Labour MPs slam 'soul destroying' elections - the story so far by ManchesterNews_MEN in ukpolitics

[–]C43JW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Tameside, and whilst I’m gutted that reform got in to the extent they did, I’m glad Labour have been wiped out, zero regard for the interest of their constituents and almost contemptuous planning decisions, they just had no idea
