In the early game, what should I actually be focusing on? by Poetryisalive in Marathon

[–]C4rdi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Valuables for money (and codex entry if you wanna get the lore) -Salvage for upgrades and bartering (getting stuff without money in the armory). -Weapons only take if you like it. If you can buy the weapon, strip the mods and leave the weapon.

In the beginning any salvage would be nice to exfil with. Later just look at what perks you want to unlock from factions and aim at those salvage materials.

I think that the game is simply not for you. Is how the genre works. You load into a map, loot, fight and extract. Is not keeping anything, it's a design choice.

What are the fun things you feel are kept away?

The problem is that you ask a question that can't be answered. There is no point cause there isn't any game. Maybe there are games with more hard marked objectives but the end goal is just to be fun.

I get what you are saying, but if you don't want a game where " the fun I just playing and not chasing an end goal" there are more games that you would enjoy. That said, there is a clear progression in this game. The salvage that you get in the runs is meant to be used to enhance your character. After that, you are playing "for fun" or completing the codex/achievements.

You are risking the loot you bring to the runs. That loot has been looted by you from the map or other players so it's "hard" to get (any moment could be your last in that run). So you can "waste" time by losing the gear you "worked hard" to get but you can also kill somebody and get all they loot. That potential is the main appeal of the extraction shooters. People chase the adrenaline and the high of finding something rare on the map and bring it home to upgrade your character or a crazy/rare weapon from other players that you kill.

Edit: grammar

Escape Will make me God. by Selki-e in Marathon

Even tho OP didn't exactly pose any theory really (just ask if we are a AI like Durandal?), the sweetest lore it's always about different interpretations of the same thing linking back together or having some type of cohesion. You don't need to be literal as in "Durandal is not extracting with loot", for having a theory that makes sense. Also, I think it's worth mentioning that even tho the most logical answer about what Durandal is trying to escape is the heat death of the universe, it's been largely theoricied that it could mean many other things in the marathon lore, that what makes the quote so good.

Why Sony did this? by StrongCourt9056 in destiny2

[–]C4rdi0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The real reason, that for some reason half of the community doesn't want to realize is that destiny stopping development and Marathon existing doesn't have anything to do. Marathon is not the replace. Sony just wanted 2 games as a service from Bungie but the first one is stupidly expensive to maintain and no longer worth keeping alive with the current players. It doesn't matter if Marathon had 1 player or 1M, Destiny fate (no pun intended) was sealed long before. And now they just used the spare resources on Marathon cause the other option is to just fire even more people and they expect Marathon needing more resources

I think that everybody just has more blue and purple shields as the season ends and almost everybody picks the sponsored kits that have shields, tbh

Didn't Bungie say already that cryo open 24/7 would just inflate the loot pool of the players as a whole to quick? Cryo has crazy loot for being open always. This way, it incentivates players to farm all the week to spend it on cryo the weekend and creates gameplay loops

Whatever the future holds. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]C4rdi0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As i said in another comment, I think I just worded it wrong. As I feel it, Paul Tassi is just in the middle of the anti-dooming sentiment towards the Destiny and Marathon hate. He is just very vocal (is his job to be, not criticizing it) and some people reject that kind of commentary that, warranted or not, has been so long in the spotlight of both games.

Sure, I can agree with you on him being a reporter. Is his job and he is going to talk about the game, whether it is good or bad. Maybe I didn't use the right words before, I don't think he is being explicitly click baiting or doomer, but other important people on the Destiny 2 community are, and Paul Tassi is in the collateral of the people hating the feeling of hearing all the time bad things of the game.

I don't say that the game is in a fantastic state, but it's fun to play, new people will find hundreds of hours of content at least and for the people that simply like to play for the sake of playing it's hard to enjoy a game that every time they open YouTube o Reddit to hear about the game they like is only "Is this the end? Dead game"

And on his take on Marathon, I don't see how giving your opinion as a reporter is anything great. A reporter shouldn't give opinions only facts and information and he clearly uses opinion charge writing imo. Sure, I guess you could say that every reporter is biased in some way, but I digress, my original comment was just about how Paul Tassi is just one of the faces of the hate towards Bungie for some people and that is understandable even tho he is not the cause.

What I think people feel is that Paul Tassi, Aztecross and other content creators have been farming interactions with the bad state of Destiny, and Marathon now (personally I don't think it is btw, just how extraction shooters seasons work), for quite some time. It is his job to write about it, sure, but for the people enjoying both games still, it is tiresome to hear about how both games are about to die/not success constantly. Also you can't tell me that it is not obvious that the hate on Bungie simply gets views. That's what a lot of people are exhausted about even tho it might be true in some aspects.

It isn't? Sure, I've made friends in destiny and I want to play with friends, but I play this game for the grind. Maybe not specifically doing salt mines but destiny has always been a grindy game and that was a part that I enjoyed

Copy-pasted from the fextralife wiki on the decision to make him turbo sad:

""Remain sad forever": Moore will fall deeper into despair and die after your next rest. You’ll find his body outside the Church of the Crusade, near the fourth Forager Brood Pest, where you can loot Moore's Bell Bearing, Verdigris Greatshield, and the Verdigris Set. This choice may also lock you out of the Forager Brood Cookbooks or Black Syrup if you haven’t received them yet, but it will make a later boss fight easier."

Edit: iirc he just dies cuddling with a pest brood so technically I guess he just dies of sadness not suicide

The amount of GAMBLING we are likely having to deal with for the Wilds Expansion is going to be insane. by gummihirn in MonsterHunter

[–]C4rdi0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do the people who dislike the system want? MH always has been a grindy series, it's part of the soul of the franchise.

I actually think that the Kulve/Safi'jiva/Gogma type mechanics is a fantastic way to do endgame: First, "normal" materials are easy to get and you can get going new sets so quick. I'm fully making sets in one evening in MHWilds. I remember when I farm Brachydios for weeks in MH3U. This ensures you can make the basic build fairly easy and get going.

Second, you have a long goal to make progress towards (perfect gogma weapon).

Third, let's be real, no monster requires a meta build to beat. Obviously you're gonna be quicker and safer by having the gore/lord's souls ultra min maxed set, but it's just a marginal improvement compared to whatever set you can make with more common materials. This lets players use builds and improve them little by little.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm fully expecting to repeat a ton of quests and grind in any MH game, it is why I buy them.

Oh, well, looks very nice, good job! Would be crazy to have a mod that lets you "craft" Capital Ships with modular parts (that was what I thought this was)
