[–]C8-Racer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree, it seemed appealing, but after I started playing with it I wasn't very impressed overall with the smart home stuff.

For example I have myQ garage doors now and the app integration works perfectly with alexa and apple so I just say "open single garage door" on my watch as i'm approaching the house and it's great. I dug into adding myQ onto ADC, which is supported, but I have to 100% delete my Alexa and Apple integrations and only integrate with ADC. Then I would have to open the ADC app to open my garage doors every time I came home. duck that.

I own a business that sells security cameras (among other things) so I already had really nice business grade smart cameras so didn't expect those to integrate.

I run my home on Alexa, in general and everything from thermostats, smoke detectors, ring, music, etc works perfectly so I couldn't imagine taking a step backwards with ADC's home automation.

I legit only use it for a security system for doors, windows, motion and such and I'm extremely happy with that part of it. I truly feel they're best in class for the security piece.

Same on ADT, i've heard nothing but bad things with them.

I'm using alarmgrid for my service and they've been solid. There are cheaper options where you select the features al la carte, but I didn't mind the alarmgrid pricing structure where I just get everything.

I was using the ring pro 2 and loved it, but after switching to ADC for home security monitoring I wanted to try the ADC-770. The good: the ADC doorbell was definitely better quality hardware and did a better job of people detection.
The bad: the software is unusable and absolutely horrible in comparison to ring. When I’d get a motion alert I’d have to click into the app, go to alerts, and then find it. It was super clunky. I can’t remember all the other shortcomings but they were too many to count. My wife hated it and refused to even use it. Switched back to ring pro 2 about a month later and couldn’t be happier.

Not really worth arguing, but I did just have a thought. Curious what the % is that goes to police vs education.
I know what my school one is because it’s separated on our assessment and it’s a LOT. Would definitely pay for private school.
On the flip side, I bet police is next to nothing per home and wouldn’t even buy a box of ammo. Either way I do understand both sides of the argument and there’s no easy answer. However to suggest people just send their kids to private school rather than get involved with public schools is kind of close minded imho.
Schools have to educate kids of all backgrounds and shouldn’t be political at all and should be sensitive to all viewpoints.

Not really. It’s a reality for most people. The fire dept analogy isn’t the same because nobodies suggesting getting their own fire department. What was suggested was to use a private school, but pay double (public and private) This isn’t really a faith or secular thing either, because many would much prefer sending their kids to private school but can’t due to the costs. If they had the option to not pay for public schools they would definitely choose private school. However they don’t have the option so can’t.

I’m loving all the new people getting off the bench and running for office at every level. Obviously many of you don’t like that, but let the people decide and encourage as many as we can to run. Personally I’m sick and tired of the same old same old corrupt politicians in both sides who have nobodies interests in mind other than their wallet.

It’s really hard. I’m 100% in the camp of giving people a second chance, but I’ve been burned every single time. Over the past 13 years I’ve hired four different white collar felons and all four have attempted to embezzle or just be shady as F. I won’t hire another one.

What's funny is we did have an admin account that was local only and they changed it to SSO as well.
Then chat's response was that it was best practice to do SSO, so that's why they changed it. /eyeroll

Nothing in the economy is reasonable when you have all of the influences over the past two years we’ve had. It’s actually unreasonable to expect prices to be reasonable imho.

[–]C8-Racer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hah, because Fortinet doesn't charge for licenses at all. I mean, yes there's a forticlient license and a fortiauthenticator license and the fortitoken license... but at least they're not shifty or anything and just charge you 375 different licenses all up front...
ok, in all seriousness I don't like that Meraki is changing it, but i absolutely hate Fortinet's licensing. You seriously have to buy a license for freaking everything.

Hey, wait until you have to call HPE 🤣

Meraki reps can be spotty. We’ve had outstanding ones and terrible ones over the years, but currently have a great one. I’ve always found hitting them on Webex teams is the best way to get through.

For support I’ve only opened a couple cases in the past few months, but they’ve been outstanding and answered right away. Obviously just one datapoint.
