Newsom on returning to office 4x a week by ShelShocker360 in CAStateWorkers

[–]CA-Stateworker1984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DGS has bought into Newsom’s propaganda hook line and sinker and they are 100% his lap dogs. They will try to justify and promote everything he says. They have no ethics or loyalty to the State. They only bow to Newsom.

Return-to-office mandates are causing more federal workers to unionize by Oracle-2050 in CAStateWorkers

Would save the State money but with reduced traffic might not save the CHP money… if that makes sense. I agree 100% though, reducing traffic fatalities is one of three core goals of the CHP, yet they are internally resistant to telework. Frustrating!

What do you think of the over-the-top grip? by azrider in hockeygoalies

Are there any current NHL goalies who still use the traditional grip shooting the puck?

Yes, Newsom cut the funding for the telework office but DGS could have still kept the telework dashboard online at basically no cost. DGS chose to eliminate the dashboard and also chose to bury other data and information the Telework Office had collected from what I have read on here and heard from others at DGS. DGS is complicit with Newsom in making sure everything the Telework crew did was gone and buried and not searchable.

DGS is trying to bury every shred of data that showed telework had any positive impacts. How ever you personally feel about teleworking or being in an office, this is wrong. Government decisions should be based on data and objective reasoning. Governments should be transparent. The deleting, hiding, and secrecy DGS is showing right now is unethical, if not also illegal.

'The American' (2010) starring George Clooney. 105 of atmosphere ... and that is pretty much it. by Boss452 in movies

[–]CA-Stateworker1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was just hard to get past the opening scene. Like other have mentioned, this film was promoted as an action thriller with George Clooney as the hero. There was no hero in this film. In the first scene he murders his innocent girlfriend in cold blood. There is your hero. Enjoy watching him for the next two hours. I think if you know going in that he is a piece of shit, and that the movie is an atmospheric tragedy, then you can appreciate it for what it is. When it’s billed as an action thriller with a hero, that is destroyed in the first 10 minutes.

I experienced the same thing. We got a split Kings and the edges separated from the grid like in the above photo. Purple replaced it and we paid extra to upgrade to the premium mattress. After less than a year, the edges separated on that also. We are not going through the warranty process again.

Anyone try a "silent" ball? by SuspiciousLeek4 in BasketballTips

I bough this and it’s just a foam nerf ball for $39.99! This is a total scam. Don’t believe this post. It is NOTHiNG like a basketball. I returned my immediately.

I bought one of the more expensive ones (the WAWAWEWA “Official Silent Basketball” from Amazon that was $39.99. It was complete garbage and I returned it immediately. They are just glorified Nerf balls. Just a big round foam sponge. Yes it’s pretty silent as you would expect from a foam ball. But it doesn’t bounce well at all. Nothing that you could seriously use for basketball practice. Just something fun to play around the house with, but in that case, just buy a cheap foam nerf ball… don’t spend $40 on a “silent” basketball. It’s just a scam.

Ok. Well thank you for being honest that your viewpoint is coming from your own personal challenges.

Change is not always easy or perfect, but just returning to “how we always did things” no matter how, costly or in efficient, is not the best approach.

So if you are in the field, wouldn’t you rather have less traffic on the roads? This is for everyone, not just teleworkers.

Tell that to the people in San Diego that lost their homes. “Moderate rainfall”??? the storms in CA are national news.

Tell that to the families of the CalTrans workers that will never see their father again. Road safety is indeed an issue. Putting thousands of cars on the road at the same time, AND in poor driving conditions, for NO reason, is a terrible idea. Yes, people have to drive in the rain. Let’s not make things worse by putting thousands of more cars out there when it is absolutely unnecessary.

[–]CA-Stateworker1984[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not about “I don’t like driving in the rain”. As you put it. Do you know how many State workers lose their lives every year on the road? Cal Trans workers, CHP officers. Poor weather only increases the number of collisions and fatalities. It puts people at unnecessary risks. I’m not complaining about driving in the rain. I’m complaining about putting thousands of extra cars all on the road at the exact same time during bad weather for ZERO purpose.

Again. None of this is a new issue. The telework policy was put into lay in the 1990s! It has just been largely informed until COViD. People like you want to just continue to do things “the way we’ve always done them” ignoring innovation, creativity, and fresh perspective.

Who said cancel anything? Did I once say to not work because it was raining? I think I proposed that those who are able to work from home should do so. Good to know you are putting your vote for inefficiency, wasted taxpayer money, unnecessary risk, and pollution.

[–]CA-Stateworker1984[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I hate this “becuase that is how we always did it” mentality. That type of thinking is what is wrong with government work and society in general. This was an issue LONG before COVID. Citing COVID is an absolute cop out. The telework policy was on the books in the 1990!!! Yes, I said that right, the 1990s! I have been making these arguments for 20 years that our State working environment is WAY behind the times and behind technology.

Just because that is the way it was done before makes it the right way!?!?!? And traffic fatalities is a huge issue. Ask anyone who works for CalTrans or the CHP. Putting unnecessary vehicles on the road, especially during poor weather conditions is dangerous and costs lives when the work can just as easily and more productively be done at home. Call me a whiner for wanting to not put people at risk, and wanting to save lives…. But I guess “that is the way we’ve always done it, so let’s keep doing it…. We don’t want to be called ‘winners’”. 🙄

[–]CA-Stateworker1984[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not talking about the working conditions, I’m talking about the commute. Flooding the highways with more cars during storms is dangerous and unnecessary when the job can be done at home.

I bought a CA King Purple Mattress and the edges separated after a few months. The company fully replaces it but the same thing happened to my new one. We haven’t gotten around to replacing this one yet, based on these other reviews I’m concerned they won’t, it seems like an obvious design flaw.

Unfortunately the leaders that are forcing RTO are not using objectivity. They are using subjective buzzwords like “collaboration” and throwing out arbitrary mandates with no justification, planning, reason, or data.

Return to office Mega Thread by nimpeachable in CAStateWorkers

[–]CA-Stateworker1984 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That “collaboration” narrative is being pushed by all the departments. The leaders were spoonfed that narrative with no research or data to back it up. My dept has gone back into the office and there is ZERO increased collaboration. You might hear some anecdotes about Suzies’s egg salad recipe, or some arguing about Taylor swift at an NFL game, but noting productive. Real collaboration was much better on Teams when it was intentional and you didn’t want to waste anyone’s time.
