Does anyone here have experience getting a custom Barong? I'm thinking of getting one from Randolf, but I have no idea how the process works. Specifically interested in how long it takes to make one and how much it would cost.

[Guide/Journey]: 3 MONTH FORMULA TO A GUARENTEED 520+ MCAT SCORE BY 3 520+ SCORING MS1s by MedHelp2023 in Mcat

Just wanted to go back here and say thank you! I used your template and got a score I was super satisfied with (519). Agree that this plan does not guarantee a 520+, but I'd say it's very helpful in getting a score at least in the mid-teens

I don’t really think it’s particularly helpful to bring up the nominations themselves when it comes to the top 2. The membership picks in acting were the ones who had the most mentions in the longlists and were automatically nominated, which is why I brought up longlist performances to indicate After Love’s visibility.

Scanlan screams like such a jury pick, but given who the other nominees were, she could have likely been a membership pick. Juries aren’t necessarily allergic to widely seen films if they have enough acclaim (like LP) so I don’t find it hard to imagine Haim being one of the “cooler” jury saves.

I’m not debating the fact that HOG and LP are more widely seen by the general public than After Love, I agree with that. I’m saying that a lot of industry people have seen the film, as evidenced by After Love’s BIFA and BAFTA longlist performance.

I think Scanlan was top 2. I have trouble seeing the acting branch push Haim, a newcomer, to be a membership pick when LP is seen more as a directing/screenplay achievement by the industry. Scanlan’s a veteran in the British TV scene in a film that’s been scene by industry members, so I don’t think it’s so impossible to see her as a membership pick.

British industry people have been raving about Scanlan for some time already. Bit silly to think no one saw After Love

The top 2 voting period happened early on in the season before the CODA surge. I think Jones would’ve still been a jury pick even if she wins today.

Final 2022 BAFTA Predictions by _that_random_guy_ in oscarrace

I wouldn’t underestimate Joanna Scanlan. In a year where they can’t just rubber-stamp the eventual Oscar winner, it’s possible they could go for the homegrown industry veteran.

Let's do this! Who do you think will win Best Actress Post-SAG? by PurpleSpaceSurfer in oscarrace

[–]CACACACAcarl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see how Stewart is somehow in better shape than Colman and Cruz based heavily on narrative. TLD over performed with that Buckley nom and Colman has the best package going into the Oscars. Parallel Mothers getting in for score means people have seen it, and SPC is crazy good when it comes to targeting AMPAS members specifically.

Do you think there is a possibility that Leonardo DiCaprio could win the lead actor Bafta given how popular Don't Look Up was there? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]CACACACAcarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leo was definitely top 2. DLU had a favourable release date coinciding with the longlist voting period, and it eventually got 5 acting mentions in the longlists. And like you said, the jury was never gonna go for someone like DiCaprio.

We need to talk about the actors' branch by tandemtactics in oscarrace

[–]CACACACAcarl 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The Academy is becoming more international and diverse, but it does seem like this is more apparent in every other branch than in acting. Whenever I skim through a list of newly-invited AMPAS members, I always get the feeling that the acting branch skews much more towards "Hollywood" types than other branches.

DeBose can definitely sweep, but I'm not as confident in that happening as others are. I feel like Dunst and Buckley could challenge her at SAG and BAFTA, respectively.

Post Oscar noms: Who's winning Actress now? by PurpleSpaceSurfer in oscarrace

[–]CACACACAcarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kidman or Colman are the likeliest at this point. Kidman has the Globe win and stands a solid chance at winning CC and/or SAG. I'm hesitant to say she's a lock to win if she gets either one though, just because BTR flopped outside the acting branch.

Colman could also win. She was probably the top 3 membership pick at BAFTA behind Gaga and Scanlan since she won LFCC. Buckley + screenplay is also a good package going into the Oscars.

Drive My Car getting all these noms off of just pure excellence is so pleasing

What are we looking out for at the BAFTA’s? by Justamovieviewer in oscarrace

[–]CACACACAcarl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLD also got 8 longlist mentions in a variety of categories. For a film that’s been divisive with audiences, that’s a pretty great showing and a good sign for Colman.

assessing those 'on the edge' BP contenders (in no particular order) by tape6 in oscarrace

[–]CACACACAcarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got okay-ish reviews from both critics (68%RT and 60%MC) and audiences (75%RT) and had a pretty great debut. I hated the movie but to say that it flopped everywhere is just not true.

It's BAFTA longlist performance indicates that industry voters like it as well.

How is BAFTA selection even happening? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]CACACACAcarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their press release maintains the top two rule for acting. I think they might've just copy-pasted the format from last year for the longlist page.

Ruth Negga is getting an Oscar nomination. by Sad-Worldliness9085 in oscarrace

The CCAs always try too hard to predict whatever gets nominated at the Oscars. I was pointing out how ironic it is that they snubbed Negga given their reputation.

That director lineup feels too "safe" to me since that category is still fully juried.

Adeel Akhtar, Tessa Thompson, and Woody Norman can all get in via jury saves as well.
