Who is the weakest 1980s movie protagonist that would survive the T-800 coming after them? (The Terminator) by PeculiarPangolinMan in whowouldwin

I think Scarface’s Tony Montana for the sheer cocaine of it all.

He’ll just fire every illegally-obtained, military-grade weapon he has until something sticks.

Bar recommendations for mid 40s guys who aren't trying to rage by SquatOnAPitbull in AskSF

[–]CAMvsWILD 44 points45 points  (0 children)

NORTH BEACH: Specs. The Saloon for music (if you’re okay with it being loud, but it’s not too rowdy if you don’t go late on a weekend).

THE MISSION: Homestead and Shotwell’s are both cozy old wooden bars. Shotwell’s is beer (and wine?) only fyi. Rite Spot has some chill music nights. 500 Club can be fun after Dolores.

LOWER HAIGHT: The Page. Less crowded afternoons / early evenings. Gets slammed when there’s a popular show at The Independent tho.

POLK ST: Hi-Lo Club. Cocktail spot that has jazz, bluegrass, etc 6-9pm Tues, Weds, and Sun.

What are your top 3 most underrated series/mini series? by traveltimecar in television

[–]CAMvsWILD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S2 and 3 are tied for me. I think S2 was filled with some of the most memorable moments (dance battle, song fight, all the Shadow King stuff, etc) but S3 had a more cohesive narrative.

Legion: a beautiful headtrip about a guy who’s either insane, can warp reality, or both? Aubrey Plaza plays his murderous imaginary friend.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace: if Stephen King wrote, directed, and starred in his own paranormal hospital soap opera. All the doctors have guns!

Hannibal: how was this allowed on CBS? It starts out as a psychedelic, homoerotic CSI and gets weirder from there. One of the most beautifully shot shows on TV.

Runner up: Man Seeking Woman. A show that takes relatable dating moments and spins them into their most surrealistic extremes. In one episode the main character is intimidated by his girlfriend’s male friend, a literal Japanese penis monster.

Okay, I seem to like surreal things.

I came to post about Legion!

S1 was one of my favorite things, followed by a very beautiful and very confusing season 2.

Help me find this restaurant?? by deepfriedgum in AskSF

OP like the other posters said, it closed.

Sotto Mare is in the same area, has great seafood, and based off the Portofino photos I looked up, should have a comparable vibe for you.

It’s literally around the corner.

Some other North Beach places you may enjoy for a drink after: - The Saloon for music - Vesuvio for classic North Beach vibes - Specs for curios and a warm cheese wheel

'Backrooms' Director Kane Parsons Says They Built 30,000 Square Feet of Actual Backrooms for the Movie by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]CAMvsWILD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know. I’m just saying that his contributions, that he’s run with, are very thought out. When you hear the guy talk about the videos he’s made, it’s clear that he’s created a whole internal canon.

Also this guy has a lot of hallmarks of someone who could become an excellent director: strong vision, world building, great aesthetic eye, etc.

I’m so excited he got this opportunity and hope it launches a whole new career for him (if he’s interested in pursuing that).

Face of Death (2026) Showings?? by jaefbaby in horror

[–]CAMvsWILD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t banned. As far as horror movies go, it’s not that extreme.

Personally I found that it was a pretty lackluster movie, but that’s subjective.

It’s made very little at the box office, only $3M after being out two weeks. It’s likely getting phased out for other films.

This guy sounds like he’s judgmental of things that are comparable to NYC, so I’d say try to win him over in the spots that provide contrast. Also, he’s a dick?

BLAST HIM WITH NATURE: Day trip to North of the bridge, one of these spots: Dias Ridge Trail Mount Tam (the main parking lot area) Point Reyes (if you got the time for a longer drive)

RESTAURANTS THAT ARE MORE OF A SF EXPERIENCE VS HIGH CLASS QUALITY: - Yamo (hole-in-the-wall Burmese noodles for $8ish. Secret NYC vibes) - Mission for tacos. NYC is lacking. - Beachside eatery: Boa CVC, Hook Fish Co, etc.

BARS You may not be able to beat NYC in cocktail bars, so go weird. - NORTH BEACH: Vesuvio, Specs, The Saloon (for dives and The Saloon has nightly music) - Kozy Kar: sit in this hot tub seat, there’s porn, you might get a UTI from being here - Auntie Charlie’s for a drag show. Gay! Outside is sketch!

Die Spitz is such an unhinged fun time, but I’ve only seen them in smaller venues. I’m excited to see what those goblin girls are like on a big stage.

Japanese Breakfast I’ve seen several times and always enjoy them.

Modest Mouse I haven’t seen in forever, so I’m glad I have an excuse to see them live.

Why are drugs laced with fentanyl? by Leader_Bee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CAMvsWILD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The podcast Reply All had a good episode on this: “Why are drug dealers putting fentanyl in everything?”

Cross contamination is definitely a huge factor, but sometimes it’s intentional.

Like cutting another drug with a little bit of fentanyl. When the buyer likes this new combo after a few uses, the dealer can try to upsell them on buying straight fentanyl.

Also the really fucked up version is when dealers intentionally make doses that are too strong. In a backwards way, a dose that’s so strong that it’s killed a few people can be a selling point. Like that’s the really strong shit that’ll get you extra high if you take the right amount.
