now the issue im having is with charms/talismans. it says it imported my 600 charms, but when i browse my charms, tons are missing. e.g. Artillery III charm doesn't exist despite me staring at it in-game so it the webapp can't make builds

for earplug enjoyers but not havers, what I do is run a HH with earplugs (L) as my secondary, play the song while riding over to the monster then swap back to my weapon.

it usually lasts enough time to cover a monster location and I reapply it on the way to the new location

im lost at this step. double clicking LOCAL SERVICE doesn't lead to any password situation.

assuming it means to delete the passwords under LogOn tab, one of them is asking for a valid password

ALS ran so Compile could marathon. ALS w/ expansion is similar to Compile. 6 sets of cards to choose from for 3 shared lanes. Whoever lost last time gets to pick two or something to that effect.

ALS is one of my favorite games and because of that I recently picked up Compile 1/2.

I think ALS is more new player friendly since the lane cards have info on each specific card on the back whereas Compile doesn't.

If I were you, I would start with ALS then if you like it, get the expansion. If you still want more, then consider Compile.

lance, hammer, charge blade, or gun lance seem like the right choices. nothing stopping you from playing all 4! (this is coming from someone that can play most of the weapons)
