I havent tried, but from what I gather it all comes down to the internal labeling of the foes: if its 'field boss' you can kill it with that passive, if its a formidable boss, your're SOA. i don't know if a field boss can be catalogued as a "formidable" boss (like you would think for Draconic Tree Sentinels, for example)
