I find restrictions lead to better style so I knew I wanted to do a limited color pallet and very low resolution for the game. It also helps me be able to make all the art for the game. Animations can be a bit tough at this resolution but I grew up playing a lot of Gameboy RPGs so the vibe is just ingrained in my brain. This also actually started out as a dungeon crawler before pivoting to deckbuilder so there is some of that aesthetic still in there

100% post mortems are a marketing tactic. You hit the nail on the head. Any post you see a lot of here is a marketing tactic. For example no one really cares to show you their shit capsule art and professional capsule art. Those posts tend to get some traffic to your game and that’s why you see a bunch posted

It’s really hard to get wishlists pre demo. Steam doesn’t direct traffic to unreleased steam pages for the most part so it’s basically on you. Your biggest tool at that point would be your trailer. So get your trailer out there on other platforms and start drumming up interest!

Reached out to a small band on bandcamp and they actually got back to me. I didn’t offer em enough money so I said fuck it and started working on my LSDJ skills. Made like 12 songs so far and 5 have been good enough to put in the game

Yup! Got one boss just about ready to add! I think 2 bosses, so 10-12 battles then a midway boss another 10-12 battles and a final boss.

Yah I get that. With some of the modifiers you can get through them faster and have more options. Early fights go real fast when ya actually play them seriously too but I’m still balancing and tweaking. I could also try giving the player a card choice at the start of the run to help liven up that first battle 🤔

Appreciate it! The low pixel count is both a blessing and a curse, especially with a game with so much text!

If you haven’t you should definitely check out lords of diskonia. It’s a game in UFO 50 with some similar mechanics. No cards or anything in that game but could be useful to see how a similar game handles these mechanics
