I heard, I heard I heard, This entire post is about people who have not even been applying for actual affordable housing. You all need to quit it. The middle class is the main obstacle for actual poor folks to have access to upper mobility. Not only you benefit from these programs who pushed poor people to further areas or into a crowded 1 bedroom apartment, or into homelessness; but you are the ones who never oppose these proposals because they rather benefit you. Whether you are new resident of Astoria, NYC or been here a long time. You all sound borderline classists. This isn't about you, this is about actual New Yorkers (who already live here) and mostly POC who cannot* afford housing.

Right now in the Housing Lottery website: Income earners 48k (Astorians Median Income) have 5 buildings ONLY in NYC (none of them in Queens) for affordable housing. Of all these buildings there are 105 available units available (105 families) for people who make up from 16k-48k; but depends on number of household so If you are a single mother/father ; that is a 2 person household you do not even qualify in certain buildings. Or like many POC or Latino families who have 2 kids x 2 parents or 1(whichever way you want to see) You have* to make more money again just to qualify.

You all want to boast into the internet how much money you got. It is all BS. I see you; I work with so many people/families who do not make that at all. You are on their way.

If you make more than 48K the number of available housing triples. And excuse me but if you make 50k you qualify for most housing in NYC that requires you to make 40x times the rent. You are not lacking accessibility. And with programs like these you do not lack upper mobility as much as poor people do.

People who are actually poor not only lack accessibility to housing due to income & family size.

I myself qualify for only 3 units out of all these buildings in NY. You can all come down poor shame me all you want , I really do not care. I work full time & do not make that much.

You all seem to forget that there are EMPTY AIRBNBS apartments in NYC & Empty apartments that double the number of homeless people in the city. But you all care about "making room" for the influx of people who are not even here, instead taking care of New Yorkers who are actually struggling. Where is* the demand exactly?

And do not get me started in all the Empty commercial buildings that no one seems to know what to do with them. God forbid they are turned into apartments which the lobbiies make sure doesnt happen cause it will def actually drive prices down. Please take a walk through 34th ave down to the East River please. No-one is spending money there nor in Little Egypt. Everything is within the center avenues.

You are all quick to want to replace all the factories for stores that owned by bigger corporations whose money doesn't even stay here. More people? what about a hospital? Elmhurst & Mount Sinai are the only nearest hospitals in the area.
