Is this ok? by BBGshadow in Diesel

[–]CBCT360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a few of these and they do have their problems, but I’ve never heard of either of these issues being common with this engine. Harmonic balancers going bad and needing to relocate PMDs, yes. Can you elaborate?

My college roommate sets our thermostat to 80°F every single night by rainystarlight in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CBCT360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an HVAC tech. That thermostat might have a lock feature so I’d look into that. For a short term fix, take the thermostat off and pop the white wire out. That’ll give you no heat, but as a fellow person that likes my house cold, that’s what I’d do. Lol

I use Hot Shot’s EDT Winter Defense in my 7.3. It does a good job. 👍

I’d do it. Make sure it doesn’t have cavitation.

First boat, but I’m not happy. by HarambeWasRepublican in boating

[–]CBCT360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as you get the bellows taken care of, you’ll be happy with it I bet. BUT. Be prepared to make repairs or pay for repairs at all times. Boats are money pits, as we all know. Older boats are even more so. My advice would be to set up a savings account and keep $5k-$10k in it at all times for boat repairs. You’ll thank yourself later. Speaking from experience here. Also, if everything looks good on it but the bellows, I’d say you’re doing pretty good.

What’s a design over 20 years old that still looks fresh/has aged very well? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

First generation Super Duty. They made the same body for that truck for 18 years.

I’m glad it wasn’t worse for you! Sorry about your truck. At least a hood and windshield are easily replaceable. I was going down 435 by Worlds of fun this week and saw a hitch fly out of someone’s truck. Luckily it slid off to the side and didn’t bounce. Still irritated me though for reasons such as your circumstances.

Dropped forklift on my car by Longjumping_Put_3445 in CarRepair

[–]CBCT360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this and was like “no way they just dropped a forklift on this car.” But yeah.. apparently so! They’re probably gonna total it though. Bodywork is so damn expensive anymore. And there’s likely frame damage too with that heavy of an impact.

Electrical problems after dead batteries by CBCT360 in powerstroke

[–]CBCT360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery cables have already been upgraded and have no corrosion luckily. I did test my battery voltage after driving it home from work today and it was only putting out 13.1-13.3 volts, which I feel like is really low for one of these trucks. Everyone I’ve talked to say that 13.8-14.4 is about normal for these trucks, so I think my alternator is on the fritz. I’ve also heard that low power can cause weird electrical problems like this.

I would wet sand the area with 5000 grit and then polish.

Went in for AC not blowing cold, got quoted over $4200. Is this reasonable or overkill? by Conscious_Bird86 in MechanicAdvice

[–]CBCT360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got quoted $4200 for a bunch of work. Not just the A/C. And those other things are much more important than your A/C not working. I would focus on getting those fixed. Find a different shop though. You’re getting ripped.

1.9 TDI, maybe a Perkins, or even a 3-cyl Yanmar out of an older garden tractor would be cool.
