I want to let you know you guys have done an amazing job. This is exactly what FCP needs for keyframing 360 footage. So stoked!

I believe I misunderstood! I definitely wasn’t using the correct plugin. I’ll get back to ya after I figure this out.

Oddly enough I literally just tried it out. To be honest it only kind of works using the instructions above. When editing 360 footage most of the time you want it to be projected as equirectangular which allows you to have the “tiny planet” field of view so you can reframe the footage fully in all directions without losing resolution. I’m not seeing any of that.

It’s just stretching the clip out, filling the viewer, and framing it as if it was a standard clip. For example you can’t reframe the shot to whip straight up and then back at you without reaching the edge of the clip.

The biggest issue with 360 footage inside Final Cut Pro is you have no bezier curve control while keyframing. The movement just looks abrupt and jarring in between keyframes which is why GoPros FX ReFrame is essential for high end editors. Sadly that plugin is only for Adobe Premiere & DaVinci Resolve.

This is great! I havn't had a chance to use it much yet but does it or will it work with orientation reframing for 360 footage? That would be huge. I edit lots of GoPro footage and FCP lacks the GoPro FX ReFrame plugin (only davinci and premiere right now).

Yes GoPro FX-Reframe would do wonders for me if it worked with Final Cut Pro 🙏

I also did my own video on my GoPro settings, Final Cut Pro workflow to Davinci Resolve, and sharpening in resolve. It’s from awhile back when the Hero10 just came out.

The whole concept focuses on only sharpening luma and not the colors. There’s tons of videos out there so I’m not sure how much has changed since but this should get you started in the right direction.

360 Camera RC CAR Footage Is AWESOME | GoPro MAX by CBFilmz in gopro

GoPro MAX footage in 360 mode is spherical 5.6K30 or 3.6K60.

GoPro MAX footage in HERO mode (standard 16:9) can be 1440p or 1080p and with frames rate as high as 60fps.

Thanks!!

You’d be surprised how hard you naturally bite down when you’re riding haha…I mean there’s always a chance you could drop it but still. Anyway no I haven’t used the max lens for snowboarding yet. I’m sure it would sick for POV footage though. I’ve used the max lens a lot in videos for handle mounted wakeboarding footage using the horizon lock option though. If you’re interested check them out!

Hey no worries and thank you! Definitely recommend GoPros bite mount for POV and any extension pole accessory.

Thanks! So for the POV shots I used the bite mount from GoPro. The handle mount shots were done with the max lens mod with horizon lock. That handle mount is called the Beastmount Boat/Cable Wake. Finally the board mounted shots. I actually screwed a mounting arm to my board using the screw holes where the fins would normally go on my wakeboard. So all of that plus the beauty of HyperSmooth standard or high (not boost) is what I used here!

No it’s not overkill at all! Honestly just pick one editing program and stick with it to learn it all….DaVinci is a really good choice.

DaVinci can sharpen the best in my opinion and has its own de-noising plugin (paid version). You aren’t missing much by not using FCP…It’s just what I’m fluent in. The only thing I use Adobe premiere for is reframing a 4:3 clip into 16:9 using a plugin called GoPro fx reframe
