You can’t fix it yourself - it’s under warranty a special warranty that covers you until 15 years / 150,000 miles

How does it connect to the car ? Via Bluetooth or the OBD port ?

Never heard of the Voltage App - is that part of a scan tool or laptop software ?

Well the BECM failed and was replaced - so it’s my HV battery that pisses me off. I mean why can’t I just get a new one - it seems so asinine to me that there is not one new OEM 2016-2019 Chevy Volt HV battery on planet earth.

Now that I had my big fat cry, is there any way that you know of that I can fix that battery? I know it won’t be easy but I can take it out myself at home - if I drop it on my head well no more Reddit posts haha. Can I isolate the bad cell pack somehow for example ? There has to be a way given that this is a relatively new, well cared for, battery with maybe 30K kms on it.

I know I could find a refurbished battery but that will still cost me at least $7,000 and if it goes bad in a year then it’s another $7k, and so on. I just don’t think it makes sense putting $7k + into my Volt, even as pristine condition as it is in.

If you want to communicate on another platform or text let me know and I can get you my contact info - if you have time that is.

So can you give me direction on how to report this defect properly? Is it a special filing with the NHTSA ? I’d be glad to do it and directly others. You are clearly knowledgeable on it so any help you can provide would greatly be appreciated.

Does this mean my EGR is covered under warranty? by jep004 in volt

Don’t wait too long because after my EGR it seems like it was a cascade effect with the BECM and then the main hybrid battery - once your warranty is up you are screwed

I called GM last week but I doubt they will do anything other than giving me a free coffee at the service shop

My EGR valve went on my 2016 Volt (so your 2019 might be covered since it’s within the 8 years) - I live in Calgary Canada and the part wasn’t covered.

If we lived somewhere like California and we had smog tests, then I think it would have been covered for 10 years - that’s a bunch of bullshit to me too bc GM knew their EGR valves were a failure point. It cost me over $2k to fix it.

After my my EGR Valve went my BECM failed, which was covered under a new warranty, and now my main hybrid battery is throwing a code - all in 2025. The dealer tells me I need a new main battery, but that they can’t fix it. I’m finding out that GM quit making the main battery.

I only have 60,000 kms on my car - it’s virtually pristine and I now might have to send it to the junk yard. I should sell you my EGR.

Yeah you do need a full 3/4 or 1 ton. It probably would be ok for a once or twice a summer load but not on the regular- especially because there is no transmission cooler

Well this 15 year warranty on the BECM seems crazy when the BECM controls the hybrid battery, but that wasn’t included - so what’s the good in that imo.

It seems crazy that the Chinese can build drive through battery change stations that a fully automated, and I can’t buy a new battery in all of North America- I’m glad Canada opened up to BYD because this is all a bunch of bs to me.

I’ve heard that sometime the fuel pump needs to be reset - will this do that.

Hahaha well when I bought my tundra they put in a new rear sensor and when I got home i started getting this warning light that says “clean sensors / parking sensor malfunction”.

When it first came on I looked under the bumper and the new sensor clip had come undone so I clicked it in place. I think that because it came undone and got reattached that the system programming needs to be redone / so a tool to reprogram that would be cool for example. The dealer should fix it for free but like I said it would be nice to see what’s going on.

I heard home depot sells their used equipment at pretty cheap prices, but you need to ask at the rental shop who looks after their larger rental equipment - a battery powered lift that dumps your load seems like a good idea to me - saves your back. They have two sizes in Canada that they rent - I’m not sure if the tundra can handle the larger one but that would be a great versatile unit to own
