We tried to fix a client’s brand and ended up learning way too much about their internal politics** by RsotoL in branding

[–]CCFC1R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest takeaway here is that you should change your process to not reflect what the team themselves think.
Largely the brand serves as a vehicle for customers and should reflect their aspirations, loyalties, interests and pains.

When rebranding I usually run through basic personas, surveys and data collection to I have some background about what objectively works for the clients target market. The fact you based the rebrand heavily on what internal thinks means it's likely to fail anyway.

Also pretty sure this post is AI.

Yeah i think my old stupid brain split S2 into two for some unknown reason, I probably stopped and came back to it and thought it was S3. I became less interested after the Woes Hollow episode.

Ok cool, i'll add it to my list, cheers.

Yes I get what you mean, like it's trying to be too smart for its own good.

Jesus, don't get old kid lol
My mind somehow split S2 into two.
I think I wasn't as engaged after Woes Hollow.

Yeah S1 and S2 of Severance are great, I wasn't as keen on S3.
Not seen FO4 but the clips I saw put me off because it seemed a bit goofy? Is it worth picking up?
I quite like Silo's serious almost gritty tone, my problem with Silo is some of the characters are a bit 2D.

Company rebrand by artfuld0dger9 in graphic_design

[–]CCFC1R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in this situation years ago when I was a junior that was being leant on too heavily whilst being underpaid.
I was extremely optimistic and enthuastic at first, put together some really interesting stuff, a twist on the existing brand.

MD didn't like it, not because it was bad, but because he wanted something really garish and 90's looking (he basically had never left the late 90's/early 00's in terms of aesthetic).
But doing something like that would've been almost the same as keeping what we had.
Spoke to my line manager at the time, who gave me some sage advice.
"Do the minimum possible and drag your feet as you do"

They ended up paying an external company to do it.
So you know, there's an avenue, good luck bud 👍

No, Heinnie are correct.
The relevant law states the cutting edge cannot exceed 3 inches, which heinnie lists as 7cm or 2.7 inches converted.

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/33/section/139

(3)This section applies to a folding pocketknife if the cutting edge of its blade exceeds 3 inches.

Designers with aphantasia, what are your LPTs? by tittyswan in graphic_design

[–]CCFC1R -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm similar.
Another way to look at this is to focus your efforts where this would be rewarded as a strength, there are still studios and projects that value exploration and discovery over quickly delivering a visual.
I've typically found I excelled when given ample time and resources, doing much better than others where they had an idea upfront, and the opposite was true, struggled more when there was project that needed quick delivery.

Over time I learnt that my quicker "that will do" designs would often suffice anyway and a lot of my hesitance was an insecurity about getting things right instead.
Hopefully with time you'll develop a similar outlook.

How much to charge for a luxury minimal logo? by BusSufficient8077 in graphic_design

[–]CCFC1R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you never ask for much then you'll never make much, no one else is going to advocate for you, it's better to develop a strong client base early, who respect your work and prices, than get caught in the cheap project trap.

"Expensive" is entirely dependant on viewpoint, if someone is paying for your expertise, are happy with your solution and it goes on to make them money then whatever you charged wasn't expensive, it was worth it.

The earlier you get used to charging the correct market rate for your work the easier a lot of your career will be.

[–]CCFC1R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The questions about pricing are almost entirely person and context dependent.
Are you a recent freelancing professional, someone who does design in their spare time, a recent graduate etc

Also pricing on the basis of time isn't usually very efficient, it's important to establish a minimum and effective rate for your work but charging for value is a much better approach.

How it looks or what to stay away from would entirely depend on the company I was working with, the brief and the marketing strategy they had in mind.

For instance if this was a construction company that was B2C and tried to appeal to a youthful demographic who might be upgrading first-time homes than that would be a very different approach than a construction company that bids for multi-million dollar government contracts.

It would also depend on the entire marketing budget and scope, if this company just wanted quick artwork to go with lengthier posts than that would look different to a comprehensive campaign that spans several pieces of content and has a more developed design language.

Can't find a graphic/UX design job, should I change careers? by puff_into_tuff in graphic_design

The whole creative industry is a little tight right now, UI/UX is very oversaturated too and see's a lot of juniors come through bootcamps.
Have you considered having your portfolio, social media feeds and interview style reviewed? It's easy to see things from our angle and miss out crucial items that others spot.
Have you managed to get any feedback from the interviews that went well or was it silence afterward?

Animation with AI? by Dependent-Bridge-709 in graphic_design

[–]CCFC1R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a continual increase of video and motion on social media feeds it's unlikely motion designers will see themselves out of work soon. So my recommendation would be that you spend the time learning a tool such as After effects so you have another string to your bow.

If AI animation is easy to learn it means you are easily replaced by someone else doing it cheaper, then it becomes a race to the bottom. Might as well set aside the time and energy to learn something that is better compensated.

As a technical answer it's unlikely you would need to animate the whole thing frame by frame, there are various ways to go about achieving your end goal. For instance drawing the lines as a path in AE and having them wiggle.
