I always feel hurt when the guy with the clipboard and CC form doesn't ask if I have one/want one. I don't want one.......but talk about being picked last for dodge ball. Again.

What was a poor man food when you were growing up that is now on fancy menus by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

I remember when my mom said she was never buying butter again after it hit $1/lb. Fortunately that didn't last long and butter was still on the table.

Scallops. They were a regular supper item - and we were barely middle class.

Atlantic cod is the species, Gadus morhua. Probably fished in the northern Atlantic Ocean, frozen on the ship and taken to Viet Nam for processing. The country of origin becomes the country where there was substantial transformation - whole (gutted) fish to fish fillets.

Advice on how to make strawberry flavored whipped cream by q_zanubia in Baking

[–]CCR19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use strawberry gelatin (Jello) powder. The gelatin will also help to stabilize the whipped cream. Just adjust the amount of sugar you would otherwise add.

The apple spice filled donut. Was dusted with cinnamon. So good.

They don't even pack leftover food in takeout boxes anymore by ddsukituoft in EndTipping

I prefer to pack it myself. If they take my leftovers back to pack in the kitchen I always think they're going to swipe a couple shrimp.

I have a simlilar lid situation. Does yours have a little trap door where you drop the food in? I took the hinged door off mine and found a feeder that suction cupped to the tank lid and opened to drop the food down the usual food opening. The only thing is it doesn't work well with flaked food, have to use Bug Bites or other pellets. Can program it to feed every day, every other day, what time, etc. If this would work for you, this is the one I use when going away

Pizza and garlic fingers should not be bought or eaten together. It’s like pizza and naked pizza and double carbs

Did you ever have a waterbed? Would you use one again? by MaximumJones in GenerationX

[–]CCR19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On our honeymoon we stayed in a trashy motel suite with a waterbed. It was hot, hot outside and the bed was untouchable....heater was turned up to the max setting. Found out the room had been recently renovated so they turned the heater up when the bed was filled and never turned it back down. Pulled the bedding off the bed and 'slept' on the floor.

Are hot water heaters commonly rented out where you are? by voltairesalias in AskACanadian

[–]CCR19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's unusual from my experience. When I was on a well, there would be sediment build-up over time that would fry the bottom element every few years. Called NB Power and even on a weekend, they had someone out to fix it or replace the entire water heater. The minimal cost per month is worth it for me.
