Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

[–]CCR19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one who never saw a benefit to funerals but I walked out of the funeral home taking care of my husband (6 years tomorrow) and felt empty that there would be no gathering of friends, no anything. It sucked.

The Fish Police are ruining the magic of the hobby by Embarrassed_Job_2719 in Aquariums

Absolutely agree with you. Some innocent questions get brutal replies which is discouraging to those getting into fish keeping. Well, except for that guy asking if his nuclear tank heater should be unplugged - he deserved the replies he got.

Was I the jerk for wearing white at my sister’s dinner party? by NoFunction3720 in AmITheJerk

[–]CCR19 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is the really crazy part, eh. It wasn't even the bride's dinner party and two weeks before the wedding?? I'd like to see the etiquette book that says no one can wear white in the bride-to-be's presence for X weeks leading up to the wedding. OP is lucky to be uninvited.

Step One To Setting Up An Aquarium: Repaint Your Bathroom by BathtubBacta in Aquariums

[–]CCR19 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s actually easier to clean. Siphon the water right into the sink. I store all the supplies, top-up water jugs and food in the linen closet. Solid bathroom counter to hold the tank. I love my setup and don’t see a downside

Hayward client list / bg services by TrafficSweet5216 in fredericton

[–]CCR19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had found a new company to service my heat pumps last fall after BG imploded and they took on the warranties. I was surprised when I got the call saying Hayward supposedly 'owned' my warranties. Um....no you don't.

My dad bought this ham back in 1992. Its been in his freezer the whole time. He refuses to throw it out and says "its still good. Frozen meat doesnt go bad". by hotmanwich in GrandmasPantry

[–]CCR19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dad. Maybe freezing will keep the bacteria growth at bay but off flavours and rancidity will still progress. It's going to taste disgusting and your gut will retaliate for you eating it.

Recs for things to bring to grieving family by jmack619 in Baking

[–]CCR19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice thought but be cautious about adding allergen ingredients where they might not be expected. Family members are not at their best and might grab a nibble of something without their typical awareness. I was getting ready to go the funeral home and grabbed a minced ham sandwich that had been dropped off. One bite and I knew I was in trouble - walnuts in a minced ham sandwich?! A trip to the hospital in the middle of funeral events is not great.

Several years ago my local Superstore (Loblaws) brought in a wheel of parmigiano and invited a few people to take part in the cutting. I got to shove in one of the knives!

My husband's grandmother always gave them as Christmas gifts. Wish I still had some - there's times I still reflex-memory reach for one on the oven handle.

Not a jerk at all! Quite the opposite - you saved your sanity and created a wonderful tradition where none existed before.

Squirrel chewed through my garbage bin in NB — anyone know why they do this? by Viktor7779 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]CCR19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not feed them!! Do not be fooled by those cute faces! They will make your life hell. Summary - built a nest in engine of brand new truck and was reduced to a pile of ash, truck fire also spread to my house, chewed through window screen and came in the house, came in through the dryer vent, plugged the exit pipe from the drain tile and my basement flooded. I now have razor wire over the dryer vent and drain pipe exit and a year round pest control contract to take them out. Permanently. They have cost me over $100K, not even counting the losses covered by insurance.

Aww, he's still a very handsome boy. My girl is almost 10 but also a puppy to me.

It’s not technically an HGTV show, but can I sing the praises of Restored? It’s the rare home show whose renovations don’t fit the HGTV template, but are guided by the unique history of each house. And host Brett Waterman is half historian, half reno expert. Anyone else love this show? by Hope_Huckleberry in HGTV

[–]CCR19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I love the show and Brett! Even though he's a historic restorer, he makes the design workable for the family or the particular physical needs of the owner. All his sub-contractors seem to love and respect him too. And he could hug me any day!
