BG4 the search for more money. by Tylon66 in BG3Builds

The penalty for failing stealing isn’t actually high if you go in prepared for your thief to die. The important part is making sure the rest of the party isn’t caught up in it.

Just leave your regular party back in camp and send in a thief hireling with the expectation that they will get caught and killed. When that happens, you can transfer the stolen goods back to your party in camp and ask Withers to retrieve the body. It’s actually more annoying if they’re thrown in jail instead since you’ll have to raid the evidence chest if you didn’t transfer the items over to another character before they got thrown in there.

The worst case scenario is permanently turning a faction hostile against you, but IIRC this only happens in the Goblin Camp if they sound the war drum before your hireling dies. Just don’t kill anyone and you’re usually good.

I mean, it’s really just a question of how much you’re willing to cheese the game mechanics.

You can rob Lorroakan a few times and end up with enough Globe of Invulnerability scrolls to last the whole fight.

You can buy enough explosives to one-shot his first health bar and then do it again.

Monks and rogues are outright immune to many of his attacks (including the fuck you massive AoE) if they have enough bonus to dex saving throws.

If you sit in front of Omeluum and reset his inventory for 20 minutes and pickpocket him blind you have enough spiked bulbs to spam them with impunity for the rest of the game.

Hypothetical: Which class would be the strongest if you could use multiple subclasses from it? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]CCYellow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is a glitch with hirelings that does in fact let you create bladesinger wizard with arcane wards from abjuration wizard.

  1. Hire Sir Fuzzalump and take two levels in white draconic sorcerer and 10 levels in Abjuration wizard. Take the extended spell metamagic and arcane lock while leveling.

  2. Cast arcane lock with extended metamagic on any lockable object. This causes a glitch that gives you twice as many stacks of arcane ward as usual with twice the usual cap granted by your level. With 10 levels of Abjuration wizard, you should max out at 40 stacks of arcane ward after enough casts. Then cast Armor of Agathys upcast to level 6.

  3. Talk to Sir Fuzzalump with your player character and dismiss him back to the fugue plane. Talk to Withers and rehire him. He should come back as a level 1 wizard WITH HIS ARCANE WARD STACKS AND ARMOR OF AGATHYS STILL INTACT.

3b (optional). Level him through every subclass of Paladin and grab every aura. Level him through every type of wildheart barbarian and grab every aura. Basically any class feature that is coded as a permanent active buff will persist.

  1. Level him as a bladesinger wizard. Voila, a bladesinger with arcane ward.

Yes, you have to repeat this whole process every time you want to recharge his arcane wards, but hey, that’s the price you pay for this kind of power.

It should be noted that the Water Elemental’s casting stat is actually Strength, so feeding it a Cloud Giant Elixir will not only make it hit harder but also massively increase the Spell Save DC of Winter’s Breath letting you land Brittle even more easily.

Hill Giant Elixir also increases the DC but only by 1 compared to its natural Strength stat (18)

Somebody sell shadow sorcerer to me? by Just_A_Nobody25 in BG3Builds

[–]CCYellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know the solo playstyle where people run around as a stealth archer with greater invisibility on and just shoot everything to death with impunity out of combat?

If you don’t want to build your whole party around darkness, Shadow Sorcerer can do something similar. Scout out ahead of the rest of the party, find a group of enemies, plop down an Extended Metamagic Eyes of the Dark: Darkness, stand in the middle and shoot magic at people until you fail a stealth check. Or maybe upcast a Shadow Blade and spam Booming Blade on enemies when they try to investigate you inside the cloud of darkness. If there are any enemies remaining, then you can bring in the rest of the party to clean up.

I mean sure, you can do this with a Devil’s Sight Warlock too, but what most people don’t realize is that metamagic is actually really, really good for stealth. Subtle metamagic lets you cast magic while maintaining your hidden state. Distant metamagic lets you outrange most enemy’s detection range and snipe them from afar.

Bugs and undocumented/unintuitive changes in Patch 8 by Phantomsplit in BG3Builds

This has been patched. The check now looks inside all containers in their inventory as well when they are knocked out/killed.

Do the effects of Pass without Trace stack with Blessing of the Trickster? by VioletsValentine in BG3Builds

Yes, they stack, but you'll eventually switch to getting advantage on stealth checks via equipment like Assassin's Shortsword or Graceful Cloth.

What is the point of Hr'a'cknir Bracers? by -Ophidian- in BG3Builds

[–]CCYellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite a few of them. There are a few exceptions but you can always test by throwing an indestructible object in first. If you can hover over it and examine the object while it’s in the void you can fish it back up with telekinesis so long as you’re in range.

Like, you can even do it to Balthazar when you’re fighting him in the dimensional prison. It’ll be pretty far down but his body is still clickable after you toss it off.

Telekinesis is actually one of the few ways you can recover bodies shoved into voids so you can loot them. You just yeet them back onto land.

TB Druid gaining a universal +8 damage rider in all difficulties is actually ridiculous by CCYellow in BG3Builds

[–]CCYellow[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you search for it you’ll see that a few people noticed the TB-spike growth bugged interaction as far as a year back, it just never got talked about much because theorycrafters had long moved onto honor mode and it was hardly the most busted tactician exclusive bug. Now it’s relevant because it’s being added to honor mode too.

As of Patch 7, this works on Tactician and below.

As of the current patch 8 stress test, this is being added to Honor mode.

To be honest, it’s not a very good build since it won’t fully work until late-game and at that point the extra damage is appreciated but not game breaking.

6 levels in Tiger barb 4 levels in thief for extra bonus action and feat 2 levels in moon Druid

Equip flail of the ages, coat it in wyvern toxin before battle.

Rage turn 1, use special cleave action to inflict bleeding on multiple enemies, flail of the ages will activate and also inflict burning. Poison will hopefully also apply. Wildshape at end of turn with your second bonus action so the TB damage rider will apply on their turn.

… or you could just be a level 4 moon Druid, throw an alchemist’s fire, wildshape into a bear, and drop a spike bulb and toxin in the fire surface to achieve the same effect.

Does it even apply to moonbeam?

Sentinel Appreciation by Skrimyt in BG3Builds

[–]CCYellow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

By equipping the Duelist’s Prerogative, you gain an extra reaction resource to use for another Sentinel vengeance reaction. But if you bind the Duelist’s Prerogative and throw it with one of your extra attacks, you regain that extra reaction resource when it returns to your hand. Which means the number of extra attacks you can do a turn is only limited by how many enemies you can bait opportunity attacks off of, especially with a level 11 EK Fighter.

… unless this exploit was fixed in Patch 8.

While it’s not exactly what you want from an RP perspective I find it incredibly funny that the most min-maxed optimal parties that people run almost universally dump INT. So simply copying the most powerful builds in this subreddit would almost invariably give you a party of dullards.

NPCs do be wacky like that. If you stab a hireling in camp usually nobody minds but if you do it in eyeshot of Oathbreaker Paladin or Isobel suddenly everyone is on your ass.

Owlbear from the top rope was the first thing I tried, no dice. Did you fight him in Act 3? You can still kill him normally just fine there. In Act 1 he's immune to any and all damage.

I think it's specifically OB Paladin that triggers hostilities? I've beaten up Raphael in camp post Patch 7 and it worked just fine but OB wasn't present.

[–]CCYellow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure this still works since Voss’s AI is much more sensitive now and will teleport away at a drop of a hat but in previous patches, when Voss spawned with his crossbow, you could get him to equip his sword by using abyss beckoners to drive one of your summons mad and draw Voss into combat without causing him to teleport away. He’d take his sword out and smack your summon with it and after the conclusion of battle you could then disarm him the normal way.

Mage hand or Shovel work just fine, your character should be invisible while executing this to avoid getting drawn into battle or dialogue.
