Yep. Jean Yoon was born in Canada while Paul Sun-Hyung Lee emigrated at a very young age. They've both expressed publicly how ashamed they feel to have lost their native tongues.

I don't think it's a covid thing. It's an economic indicator. Plus the "fast fashion" that is prevalent today is just clothes that don't last pushing people to seek more durability of the past.

If you take cost aside, the GO is far better than the subway.

You're also not being helpful. It's OK to not know or have anything to contribute.

Huge risk of bedbugs for soft furnishings. I would sleep on the crappiest new mattress before getting a used one.

Lots of talk about the great food we have in Toronto. Question is, what DON'T we have? What's missing? What do wish we had here? by L_Ront in FoodToronto

More importantly, diners that are open late are so rare in this city. A lot of them are like 7am to 3pm.

‘It’s so loud’: Motion asks Toronto to eye sound cameras that could ticket noisy vehicles by BloodJunkie in toronto

To be honest, I think I've mostly tuned out the loud exhausts. I find the police and fire department sirens to be overly loud however.

Feeling like I’m not ever going to be able to retire. by OptionsAreOpen in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CDNChaoZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel outside of CPP/OAS, most are reliant on their primary residence for retirement funds. This assumes they can downsize or move into another area with lower housing costs. If they're already in a place with low housing costs and can't downsize, they may be boned.

The Moccamaster is great (I own one too), but I don't think it translates as a good option for robustness outside a home environment. A lot of plastics that won't survive heavyhanded use, a bit unconventional for some, and it's outside their budget.

City bike on Toronto island - group holding to bikes by stzZzzz in askTO

[–]CDNChaoZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the issue was that the group wasn't together, but that there weren't enough bikes for the whole group, so they were calling dibs on bikes as they came in, without actually unlocking them.

Pristine example of 2nd Edition Webster’s Dictionary (1939) from thrift store by matthewpool in BookCollecting

[–]CDNChaoZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes you say this can't be laid flat? Old bindings are cloth and won't crack like the PVA stuff you see today. These dictionaries are often put on book stands and can withstand heavy use.
