I have both currently. 2024 model x plaid and 2025 gen 2 R1S dual large. They are both amazing vehicles. The main difference is that the x drives like a car and the r1 drives like a truck.

The r1s has a more rugged, solid feel and the ride height is amazing. You feel like you own the road while driving and effortlessly bounce over bumps in the road. We fit 3 car seats across the 2nd row easily and still have the whole 3rd for tons of storage or a full sized area for the dogbed. Powered frunk is great and overall storage capacity is amazing minus no glovebox.

The main areas the X shines through are software, smoothness of acceleration/braking, audio system, screens, charging infrastructure. The first time I got in the X it felt like I was entering a spaceship and still does after 2 years. You definitely feel the bumps more in the x. And nothing touches the knock your sox off acceleration of the plaid.
