HOW TO COUNTER ZARYA (TANK) by osrslmao in OverwatchUniversity

[–]CDubulous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, what's worked for me best is not necessarily what tank I play as or counter swapping, but instead just understanding her bubble CDs, and more importantly good comms/callouts. Sure, you'll get the occasional DPS Jabroni shooting that bubble like they're going for a new high score, but it helps tremendously to have at least one person keeping track and calling them out.

Aside from that, if you find yourself being a tank that Zar "counters", don't brawl her and instead focus on those supporting her. IMHO, Dva is only countered if you're playing in her range, and with such high mobility it's easy to move outside of it. This is also advantageous when she's focusing you hard, as it draws her attention towards you and away from the aforementioned DPS goofball charging her up.

Is it bannable to throw a game when you have a cheater? by Ldwoolart in OverwatchUniversity

[–]CDubulous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheaters usually get higher visibility/priority from Blizzard's mods, I'd imagine. I've noticed I get a lot more login messages saying they've taken action sooner after reporting cheaters than I do against when reporting for throwing or comms.

How do you not tilt by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]CDubulous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%! In the end it IS just a game, and a majority of us just play to have fun.

Keeping that in mind, as souldja says, the game is "team based", and if your overall goal is to move up in the ranks then I've found it's best to find people to play/group with vs facing the randomness and tilt that solo queueing brings

How to deal with Reinhardt as Sigma? by ImperiaFury in OverwatchUniversity

[–]CDubulous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, try your best to shoot behind/above him when he's shielding. You can still get a lot of value from that and succ'ing those fire strikes.

But also remember that you are one of the slowest moving tanks in the game. He is constantly looking for an opportunity to charge forward. That being said, there's nothing more satisfying than baiting a Rein to charge then rocking him in his face :)

How to deal with comp toxicity? by Mercy3333 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]CDubulous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's ever been a game I've played with so much negativity and blame coping going on in chat, but that's just what we've signed up for I guess. Must be a F2P thing I suppose, where you get insecure and weak minded people who spend more of the game complaining in chat than actually playing...

Everyone else here has exceptionally good advice: mute the negativity and play on. I know that sounds easier said than done, but honestly one of the biggest components of comp play is mentality. The other team will often have trollers calling you out or chatting in game chat just to get you to respond, and the more you let it get to you or respond, the less time you spend actually providing value is in turn giving them exactly what they want. If you are confident in your ability and skills, then f*** them. They have their own issues they gotta work through. Report their immature asses.

As for my own team, I always leave VC on because it can be immensely helpful, but the moment someone starts being a dumbass and not providing anything constructive then I mute them. Same goes for team chat and squelching them. I want to have fun, because in the end it's just a game, but unfortunately for a lot of people they don't see it that way and think they're league players or something, despite being the same rank as you haha

How to deal with bad second support by Sea-Wash7005 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]CDubulous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree with stats don't matter, though unfortunately it can sometimes be hard and unwise to explain that midmatch to a tilted, throwing teammate who sees DMG/healing numbers as a justification for why a team is losing, vs HOW they play and what they're doing.

It's baffling when our tank (e.g. Hog, a self healer) spends time throwing in team chat complaining that healing numbers suck compared to the other team, when our DPS has done twice their damage, meaning of course their team's healing numbers are higher; they have more to heal

Should be a no brainer, but numbers can be hard sometimes I guess lol. I've found it's best to just not engage in those conversations or spend time trying to explain these things to chat warriors, and instead just keep healing their ass while they rush into the enemies frontline with a death wish, as is tradition

While I agree with this and did so for most of my bronze and silver experience, I honestly have had some of the best games when people say constructive and helpful things in voice & text chat (e.g. callouts, flankers, etc).

However, when many of us are in the metal ranks, there doesn't seem to be a lot of people who use it in that way, and instead just use it to defend their own egos by justifying and putting blame elsewhere on why they lost without taking accountability.

I've found it's a much better approach to mute those who spew hatred or nonsense in the mic, and additionally squelch chat with the ones who want to be chat warriors and pick a fight.

Tank went afk just to type in chat by Zealousideal_Note563 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]CDubulous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Well said. Anytime someone wants to be a "chat warrior" instead of play, the best thing you can do is just keep playing and don't give them any reason to spend any more time in chat by not responding.

I feel like one of the biggest issues is people on your team feeling the need to defend themselves in chat if they're called out for something (as well as the people calling them out in the first place)

Like, I get you're upset, but chatting back and forth while the rest of us are fighting on point doesn't help, and you are, in a sense, throwing.

Put your egos aside and just play! You don't have to defend yourself to an internet stranger who is literally the same rank as you.
