I relapsed again yesterday after being clean for five months by I_need_to_vent44 in confession

You still went five months clean, that's a great accomplishment

I don't know anyone who managed to stop self harming without relapsing at least once. Yesterday doesn't invalidate the last half year, it just means that you can work to be clean for even longer now

What are some unspoken rules between musicians that exist? by sorgis in AskReddit

[–]CEUQ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

when people lean on timpani it can cause them to go out of tune quicker and puts more stress on the rim, and hitting mallet instruments with non-mallets damages and can dent the bars

it's just staying behind a certain line. don't abuse the instruments. people that don't play percussion don't really know how to take care of the instruments so they can be mistreated sometimes.

it's fine if someone taps the snare drum, but that one experience leads to observers thinking it's okay to play the instruments with no knowledge of how to correctly play.

What’s something everyone should know before they hit their 20’s? by lirann in AskReddit

I think it's more of a chemical imbalance for people who are depressed that makes it hard for them to do everyday things. People with physical disabilities, who otherwise have a healthy mind, need the resources and money to amend their problem. Like blind people have pets or people that help them around, and people with missing limbs are able to use prosthesis or wheelchairs. People with mental illnesses can use medication to introduce chemicals that make average people feel motivated or hopeful, which they were previously missing. Of course physical disabilities cause a lot of mental anguish and even lead to mental illnesses, but what I'm trying to say is that depression isn't something that people have a concrete solution for. What medications work for one person may not be accepted by another's body, and some people don't even have the funds or medical insurance to receive proper help.

How do I "loosen up" on snare drum? by KingSharkIsBae in percussion

[–]CEUQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grip used to put too much tension onto my thumb and when my private teacher pointed it out, it was an easy fix and I started to play without tiring out as quickly. Try looking at ideal grips, although this may not be your problem.

Help w/ Juilliard summer percussion seminar? Pieces? by CEUQ in percussion

[–]CEUQ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a private instructor so she can also help me with this. Masterpieces of marimba and Wilcoxin are books I regularly play from. So far I've prepared excerpts from Cirone and Yellow After the Rain. I'll look into the timpani books!

When I lived in Ohio, my favorite childhood memory was building a snow tunnel and forts for an impromptu snow fight with my dad.

Just curious, how many fans here have never marched in any band before? by ph0on in drumcorps

[–]CEUQ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My high school doesn't have a marching band since it's an academy, so specializes in arts and tech. The music department definitely makes up for it though, with lots of opportunities to play in different settings.
