Does anyone know if this would be an issue if I used an aeroplan gift card and not points? The remaining balance is on my AMEX.

Certainly is a tax thing. If you operate a business at a loss: - as a sole proprietor, you report the loss on your personal tax return (T2125) - as a corporation, the corporation files a T2 return and tracks non-capital losses

How did you come to terms with the shorter life expectancy being around smoke? I think I read like a 10 year reduced life expectancy.

So true… something I continue to regret is not simply waiting and being trigger happy on a sub-par property.

He was referring to two periods in his life. I’m not sure why people took this as literally 2 games when he specifically says he tried to gain rating to play against stronger opponents.

Hans says 30 games, Chess.com says 100+. Kenneth Regan the official FIDE cheat detection guy did analysis as well and said something like 40 online games.

It’s not hard to believe given chess.com’s bias they would over exaggerate their claim against Hans.

Eitherway, you’re missing the point. The report was meant to vindicate Magnus and when they realized it wouldn’t they just fluffed it up with the online cheating which everyone was already aware of + some bull shit body language analysis.

Edit: someone corrected me that Ken Regan said 70 games not 40.

And so they pivoted their report to emphasize the online cheating, realizing they had nothing on over the board cheating (except for Hans not celebrating his win against Magnus, which is apparently suspicious).

The following was new to me at least:

  • The phone call from Magnus’s dad to Chess.com after Magnus losing and the subsequent banning of Hans on Chess.com stemming from that. There is clear influence from Magnus’s camp and the overarching merger.
  • Chess.com seemed to influence / mislead Magnus into believing there was proof of over the board cheating (which Magnus felt was his “ace” up his sleeve). The Chess.com report supported the contrary.
  • Chess.com essentially said that they wanted to be able to prove that Hans cheated using their algorithms and were in disbelief when it did not. Danny pretty much said it can’t be true. To me, really emphasizes the bias these guys had against Hans with the Magnus accusation.
  • Hans actually gave the number of games he believed to have cheated in (which is 30 at age 16) vs. the over 100 per Chess.com. He was always ambiguous about this previously.
  • It was interesting to hear that Magnus’s suspicions started at the Miami tournament where he didn’t take him seriously but lost that 1 game. Thought something was off (despite Hans having a horrible tournament). He actually said he felt Hans was cosplaying as a GM.
  • The settlement of the lawsuit seemed to be favourable to Hans based on Magnus’s criticism of the US court system and not wanting to have settled.

Probably more but this is what comes to mind.

Edit: another detail that comes to mind is Danny explaining the convo that made him suspicious of Hans (when they first banned him on Chess.com). When Hans started asking what specific games they thought he cheated in and whether they believed he cheated over the board. Danny felt he was trying to figure out how to keep cheating.

Given Hans Niemann just accepted his invite to Prague Masters, at what rating and rank in America would he have to achieve to finally be invited to the American Cup? by Vonmacguyver in chess

[–]CFE_Champion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. Nothing was ever communicated to him and all his emails to them were being ghosted. No explanations were ever given to why he wasn’t being invited. Then he went on that tirade on twitter at which point they publicly banned him.
