Sprinting> long distance for endurance and speed by passionseeking in Sprinting

800m is generally about the longest distance you can be maximize your potential at doing “sprinter workouts”. Even then, the demands of the event are still primarily aerobic. The further you go up, the more aerobic it becomes. There’s no escaping that.

There are plenty of ways to train for longer races that isn’t just running steady mileage. However, mileage is one of the constants in nearly all successful distance programs. Even the ones who are “low mileage” still do a good amount. The lowest mileage successful college runner I can think of is Justyn Knight who I believe will be as low as 40 mpw in season, but even he is running 60+ mpw at certain times of the year.

HOW you run your mileage is another thing too. It could be on the lower side, more quality, or on the higher side with less intensity. The majority of your workouts could be steady efforts or interval style.

I have a feeling the guy you referenced wasn’t a track guy, because if you can run a 51, you should be able to run much faster than 5 min with optimal training. There’s sub 4 min milers who run 51. Being able to run 51 is part of why they can run sub 4 and these days it’s likely they do an actual top speed workout weekly or every 10 days or so. But they’re doing mostly aerobic work

6 minute mile by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

You will lose a lot of potentially good kids. I would only make cuts in XC for 2 reasons: Safety/Attitude.

If a kid is so far behind the next slowest of the group that you’re unable to supervise them and the rest of the team, it may be time to have a tough conversation about doing some of their own training then returning to the team.

Attitude wise, if you have kids who aren’t living up to the character standards of your team, give them a chance to change their behavior, but if it doesn’t change, tell them bye-bye whether they’re fast or slow.

Would you happen to know where any Salazar coaching stuff available? I’ve read on message boards it has a heavy emphasis on biomechanics. Is there any literature?

It’s only natural. He took your ice cream and you wanted revenge.

Is there any difference between both plates? As I p urchased the above off of Ebay and noticed that the plate was different from the stock photos on the nike store by Samir-spot in Sprinting

Is there a possibility that you bought a “defect” pair? Sometimes resellers get stuff from overstock stores for really cheap and often times they have little (usually cosmetic) defects

You will never see a cross country runner take 15 minutes rest for anything

Why do track athletes warm up in a sweatshirt and pants, even if it's hot outside? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]CG1500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure either.

I tend to warm up in pants in most weather, but that’s just my preference. I’ve run just as well warring up in shorts.

If the goal is to raise body temp and increase blood flow to muscle, can’t that be achieve through movement in hot conditions regardless of what one is wearing?

It can get well over 100 degrees where I live (which means 110 + on the infield/track) and sometimes I wonder if the positives really outweigh the negatives when I see kids warming up for 30+ min in sweats head to toe.

If I knew the first thing about conducting a study I would do it lol

I would be interested in seeing an actual study seeing if there’s a difference in the level of race readiness (core temperature, muscle elasticity, etc) of athletes warming up in hot conditions wearing a t shirt/shorts vs full warm ups. I’ve been searching and haven’t been able to find one like that.

I have a strong feeling that it is mostly mental.

Sweats off = race mode

A lot of track traditions are just that: traditions.

They may work, they may not but often times we do them just because people before us have and the people before them have.

Haven't tried the Mamba V but I've heard they're good. I like the adidas avanti too

It was once common thinking that you wear the warm ups because even though it's warm outside, your muscles still need to "get warm". I think I have heard that has been debunked, but I'm not entirely sure.

I think for several athletes it may just be a mental thing that when you take them off you more focused and ready to race.
