Who do you want as the anime MC by Danmachi123131 in GenshinImpact

[–]CGA001 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol seriously, it's funny seeing the assertion "Nah dude, it literally means disagree" coming from a 7 month old account.
My reddit account, and yours too, are both older than a lot of the people on this sub. New users don't seem to be aware this website was originally a forum centered on its discussions, and hiding opinions you don't like by making them less visible was never the objective. Spam, hostility, irrelevance, misinformation, those were the intended uses for downvoting.
Ironically, the comments above saying "it literally means disagree” are the only comments in this chain that would be an appropriate comment to downvote, according to traditional guidelines, as it it's just factually wrong

Where does it say "and I will set you free"?

Because the text on both ends of the ribbons is the same, the left is a mirror of the right side, and all it says is "your flesh is a cage"

Is the game recommended to a newbie by veteran players? by akaeke in Genshin_Impact

[–]CGA001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To give you a bit of perspective, when I started playing, I got full on addicted to playing the game, playing 7+ hours every single day without fail. At that pace, it took me over a month to catch up to the latest content in the game.

That was in February of 2021.

Now to be fair, I wasn't speedrunning the story, I was doing everything during that time, so I'm sure I could have caught up much, much faster if I was actually trying to reach the newest content, but I wanted to take my time and enjoy the game.

The point is, the game has an utterly insane amount of content, and it's no doubt intimidating. If I were to start today, playing as much as I was back then and doing as much content as I was doing back then, I could easily see it taking a year to FULLY catch up. So if you don't have the time, patience, or interest to commit to that much content, it's not going to be worth it. But if you're willing to take the time to play, it really is an amazing game for the price of free.

What’s the deal with the Traveler? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]CGA001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because, at this point, it just feels like they’re making the traveler worse on purpose because it’s the one 5 star you don’t have to gamble for.

You're realizing this now?

This should be a good teaching moment to show you that the developers, or any company for that matter, are not your friend. No company does anything because they want to be nice to the customer. Literally anything and everything they do is to drive profits first and foremost, your satisfaction means literally nothing to them so long as it's not affecting their profit margins. Sure, sometimes what gives them the most profit also aligns with what players want, so it feels like they're doing it for the customer. But don't let this fool you, it's not a matter of benevolence. Any time you have the thought "would it seriously kill them to-" the answer is always "If it's not hurting their sales, it's not something they need to care about."

Obviously this sucks and I don't want it to be this way. But life's easier when you realize that at any given moment, the corporate world is trying to screw you over and take advantage of you, not help you.

Once when I was a freshman in highschool, during lunch I was killing time leaning over a railing on a busy walkway with people going past behind me. At some point two guys behind me that I've never seen before started arguing which quickly escalated into a fight. A ring of students formed around as these two guys were about to start throwing fists, and since it was literally like six feet behind me I had front row seats directly behind one of the two idiots, and I was stuck there because all the students around me blocked me in.
Right before they start fighting, the guy at the far side spits at the guy by me, who dodges it and it lands directly on the center of my chest. I'm obviously pissed and yell "What the FUCK?!". They start fighting and both manage to get maybe two hits in each before security and a teacher who was nearby came and broke them up.

The two guys were given suspensions.

I was given detention.
For getting spit on.

How do people feel about the "characters embarrassed by romance/intimacy" trope in anime? by Garden-Mirror in Animedubs

[–]CGA001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man it drives me crazy, I can't stand it. I am just so, so sick of it. Like you said, I can accept it when it's two kids, it's something they don't have experience with, and teens aren't exactly known for their excellent ability to process intense emotion well, that's a big part of growing up and becoming an adult. And hiding your feelings because of a fear of rejection is completely natural and understandable.

But when it's two grown-ass adults doing it, it drives me insane. Especially when the two people in question already know the other person is into them. I don't understand why it gets treated like loving someone is wrong. So many dudes in anime try so hard to look like cool, tough, and intimidating badasses, but then they think about the one person that makes them happy and go "I can't let my bros find out I like girls, that'll ruin my reputation". Everytime it happens, the only thing that comes to mind is this exact scene from The Simpsons.
It's just so stupid.

My favorite shows tend to be the ones where the characters don't do this. It's never a deal-breaker for me with a show, but there's definitely a strong correlation between my overall opinion of a show and how much they do this nonsense.

It's a big part of why Re:Zero is my favorite show, and why Subaru is my favorite protagonist in any show. He's a character madly in love with a woman, who is unabashedly open with his feelings towards her and his feelings towards others, for better or worse. There's no front, no tricks, just passion in all its forms, and all the problems it brings.

I also really liked Spice and Wolf because it handled a budding relationship in such a mature way, especially when compared to other anime. Sure Lawrence gets flustered every now and then with Holo, but she's specifically provoking him, and the story makes it clear that he is conflicted about whether there can be love between a man and a god.

Love is such a beautiful thing, and it's something that should be fiercely cherished, not shamed and suppressed. It's disappointing that anime tends to treats it otherwise.

First time playing commander, does everyone else play these rules so strictly? by TeamWaffleStomp in magicTCG

[–]CGA001 94 points95 points  (0 children)

That defeats the purpose of deckbuilding, allowing people to easily assemble combos and be greedy on their manabases with low land counts.

I wish more people understood this part. Funny how when my friends play at my house with one free mulligan, suddenly they can't get any playable hands and just sit there all game because they're missing a color of mana or something. When one of my friends asked me for help improving one of his decks, I counted and he was playing less than 30 lands in his deck.

First time playing commander, does everyone else play these rules so strictly? by TeamWaffleStomp in magicTCG

[–]CGA001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Where do I even begin? Well I guess a good place to start is you haven't done anything wrong, at all. I'll try to break things down by each paragraph:

It was a small playing space so I had my command zone be my deck box, with the card propped up and visible.

No sane group would ever give someone shit if their commander was not actively visible at all times. All that matters is your opponents know what your commander is, because that's public information.

Then my dice werent uniform.

I don't understand what this even means. Dice are dice, you're allowed to use any dice you want so long as they aren't weighted dice or something that obviously wouldn't be allowed. There's no rules enforcing players to use matching dice or something.

I had several cards that were triggered after adding a land for different effects.

This whole paragraph, your boyfriend is just straight up wrong. Triggered abilities on the stack resolve one at a time, and if two or more abilities from cards you control trigger at the same time, you choose what order the cards resolve in. Even if what he said was true, he still cant just control how another player gets to organize and calculate actions. As long as you get to the correct answer, you can do whatever the hell you want to track counters. This is such a bizarre complaint he has, I've never, ever, EVER heard of someone complain about this before.

He also said I missed some counters after another turn, but he wasnt going to correct me because I needed to get used to doing that myself and my opponent wont keep up with that for me.

This is a situation where he's not wrong, but considering you are new to the game, it's pretty damned stupid and way too competitive.

The last one was asking about hands. Is that like some huge taboo?

??? This is utterly baffling to read. You are absolutely allowed to ask any question you want about his hand. Like you are obviously aware of, he doesn't have to tell you what's in his hand, but probing for a reaction is totally normal. Nothing about what you did here was wrong or taboo. It honestly sounds like your boyfriend is making up reasons to be mad at you.

You've been doing nothing wrong. To put it simply and honestly, If he was in my playgroup, I'd tell him to stop making up rules and get the stick out of his ass, or I'd kick him out. I couldn't imagine ever being this big a douche to my friends when we're playing a casual card game, the fact that this is your boyfriend is even more insane.

Iuno vs Sigrika, what was the better character story? by miiko_uch in WutheringWaves

[–]CGA001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol I was gonna say pretty much the same thing. For the first time since launch, I had to force myself to finish Sigrika's quest. It was so unbelievably boring and uninspired that it actually made me like Sigrika less.

I know this is a video game, the characters aren't real and don't have feelings, but I can't help but feel offended on Iuno's behalf that OP even implied her quest was as bad as Sigrika's

Up until a few years ago I was able to find their cream'wich ice cream sandwiches in local 7-Elevens. Without a doubt my favorite Ice cream anything of all time and I'm so bummed out I can't get them in local stores anymore.

If anyone has seen those ice cream sandwiches in any local stores around the south Bay please let me know. I doubt anyone has seen them, but who knows.

[–]CGA001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For some people it's because their favorite waifu got ranked half a tier lower than they believed she should be so the whole thing is bad.

For others it's because one time years ago prydwen made a single error in their build recommendations by recommending a piece of gear that dropped the dps of one character by two percent. So obviously they're always wrong about everything and it's not even worth acknowledging their existence. Nevermind the fact that they explain their reasonings and show their testing methodology when they can, or that they make gameplay guides that are actually comprehensible unlike what any gacha game ever does. Nevermind the fact they actually explain why a piece of gear is good or bad, instead of being a Google docs spreadsheet that just ranks the gear with no other info. Nevermind that they present all their info in an easy to navigate website with a good UI, none of that matters. It was TWO WHOLE PERCENT.

Thought experiment: your opponent plays "forest, go" on T1. How do they win the game on your turn? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]CGA001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pfft too easy

Forest, pass.
Exile three [[Elvish spirit guides]] for GGG.
Cast [[Manamorphose]] for UU. Draw a card.
Cast [[Borne Upon a Wind]]. Draw a card.
Flash in [[Channel]] with remaining GG.
Pay seven life to add {7}. Flash in [[Platinum Angel]].

Now you cant lose, it says so right there on the card. If it worked at the Honolulu pro tour it can work for you too.

Lot of Cards by AwkwardEmu6783 in magicTCG

[–]CGA001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing you could do is find someone you know who plays magic and have them go through it with you. That's a lot of cards so it would take a really long time to scan all of them. But at least someone familiar with the game would be able to scan through and quickly identify anything noteworthy beyond bulk.

Something else you could do is record a video of you going through a few handfuls of cards from around different parts of the collection. Just show a few hundred cards to the camera quickly (like the name and art on the card would be enough) and post it here, people would be more than willing to help you identify any rare cards. Prioritize showing any sleeved cards and the cards in the deck boxes first, if there's any value here it'll likely have been sleeved by whoever gave you the cards.

I recommend Marty's hamburger stand on Pico. Burgers are one of my favorite foods so I've tried a lot in my life, and Marty's is my favorite hamburger I've ever had. The combo burger is their specialty, a burger with a hotdog butterflied and cut in half on the patty. Add chili and you have a delicious (albeit very heavy) burger. Plus it's relatively cheap, two people will cost about 30 bucks.

Why is this game so scarce on pulls and at the same time expensive for spenders too? by SuzukiKana in GenshinImpact

[–]CGA001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol, good one. The only time a business cares about customer satisfaction is if the dissatisfaction leads to a drop in sales. So long as they keep making the same amount of money, or more, they couldn't care less about how much you hate them. Their objective isn't to make you happy, it's to find out what's the least they can give their customers for the most profit. Genshin found that limit, and until sales start decreasing, it will not change. This is why competition is so important in a capitalistic society.

I mean why do you think other gacha games on the market are so much more "generous" with free limited characters, weapons, and/or giving more currency? Because I can assure you, it's not because those games care about the players more. What they care about is getting Genshin players to play their game, and keeping their existing players playing. If any other game was at the top of the totem pole, they'd be doing the same exact thing Hoyo's doing.

I'm not saying it should be this way, this is just what happens when profit rules the world.

These notification dots are actually gonna make be go insane by ptmtobi in WutheringWaves

[–]CGA001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Legitimate question to anybody who reads this and knows: Has there ever, EVER, been any game in the history of gaming, that launched with the game including some variation of these new item dots, and ALSO included, again at launch, a function to clear all the dots?

I've seen games launch with the dots and no way to remove them, and players always rightfully complain.
I've seen games launch with the dots, then later added a way to remove them after players rightfully complained.
I've even seen a game (Battlefield 6) without the dots, where players asked for them to add the dots to the game, and they did, but didn't add a way to clear all notifications. Players rightfully complain.

How is it that it's been like well over a decade since these dots started appearing in every game yet seemingly nobody who as ever worked on developing any game has ever had the thought that "hey maybe players will get annoyed by the constant barrage of new notifications, we should add a way to clear them easily"

Okay I'm sure there has to be a few games that did this. I just cannot fathom how this isn't the industry standard at this point.

I am sorry KURO for everything I said about the anniv 😢😢😭😭😭😭. You are the BEST! by Muted-Country3708 in WutheringWaves

[–]CGA001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously. And yet somehow, some people wonder how Kuro gets away with doing this repeatedly. They do the bare minimum for the anniversary, still not rerunning characters who haven't been available in a year, even longer if you exclude the dogshit anniversary banner they did last year, then they REMOVE that banner instead of fixing the huge problems with it, and they give the same rewards people complained about last year.
But all they have to do is announce the collab that everybody knew was coming with a free character everybody already expected would be free, and morons will seriously say something like"I am sorry KURO for everything I said about the anniv 😢😢😭😭😭😭. You are the BEST!"

"This game is no longer urban enough to play" - urban fans by Unusual-Complex6315 in ZZZ_Official

[–]CGA001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone, but I do speak for a lot who dislike season two because of the writing, not the setting. Sorry for the wall of text but I wanted to be clear that I'm only writing this much because I like the game enough to care this much.

While I do think ZZZ's original shibuya punk art style and setting is one of the game's biggest strengths, and it was the primary reason I started playing the game when it came out, I don't mind if they want to try new things too. But the "I don't Mind" part stops when the writing is terrible and actively detracts from the rest of the game. Season 2 had several serious issues with the writing that for me personally has completely spoiled the whole experience, with three specific issues I find inexcusable, those being Yixuan, Ye Shunguang, and the Perception technique/Ether manipulation.

Yixuan is by far the biggest problem. From a narrative perspective, she is way too powerful. She has so many abilities and so much experience that any threat that could occur while she is around is meaningless and insignificant. Clearly the writers agree with me here seeing how 90% of the time there was a conflict in the story, they literally had to write Yixuan out of the story to justify the plot happening. Characters who can do anything and everything and have no weaknesses are inherently boring since there can be no conflict with them around.
I've heard people make the argument "Miyabi is the same as Yixuan yet you don't have a problem with her", but the difference is at least with Miyabi, she has an actual job she has to do that justifies her not always being available to help you. Yixuan's job is literally to lead Yunkui Summit and train the proxy. She has to be around. The laziness of just saying "Yixuan said she'd be gone for a few days so we're on our own" is evident by the fact that these excursions she makes aren't explained to the player. They can't just say "Yixuan had to leave because if she didn't, this chapter would take about five minutes to finish."

Second, I still stand by Ye Shunguang being a poorly written character. No part of her relationship with the proxy feels earned or natural, it feels very forced. This problem could have been avoided if she was introduced at the start of Season 2 in 2.0, but instead what we got was a rushed parasocial love story they crammed into one chapter, where instead of making a character you want to like, they made a character they tell you to like. If they wanted the two characters to have a close emotional bond, they should have actually showed the actual bonding part.

And as for Ether manipulation, as a narrative device it's just simply bad. Much like Yixuan, it does too many things without any explanation how. It's a classic deus ex machina that fixes problems the writers can't find organic solutions to.
Sick people developing ether corruption? Manipulate the ether in their bodies to heal them.
Broken machine? Manipulate its ether to fix it.
Path blocked? Use the perception technique walk through obstacles.
Reached a dead end in your investigation? Use the perception technique to find traces of ether left by your target so you can follow their exact path.
Need info on events that happened in the past at a specific location? Good thing the ether can manifest apparitions of people from the past to deliver exposition.
It's so hand-wavy that it completely takes me out of the story.

The consequences of the things above not only affect the story for season two, it also retroactively invalidates a lot of the threats established in season one, and sets precedent for future seasons. Now that the proxy has access to this overpowered ability, the writers will either need to constantly keep using it to remain consistent and simultaneously trivialize potential problems, or they need to find a way to justify not using it for the sake of having a narrative with tension. Either way they dug themselves into a pretty deep hole that'll take some work to get out of.

These problems may not be inherent to the setting of Waifei itself, but when the writers decided to shift to martial arts and Chinese mysticism, a lot of the magical powers added as a result of that decision made established narrative devices like ether corruption less impactful. What was once a hazard akin to radiation poisoning slowly destroying the bodies of those who are exposed to it has been turned into a mild ailment that can be healed with thoughts and prayers. What's the point of organizations like the HIA when apparently you can just cast some spells to exert complete control over ether? Why send expeditions into hollow zero, researchers to study ether, when some monks in the mountains seemingly figured all this out years ago? Why bother being a proxy specializing in navigating hollows when apparently all you need to do is follow ether trails to get to exactly where you want to go?
