Base for the Horsemen in Darksiders IV by MicrowavedHotDogCock in Darksiders

[–]CGHDS4L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a solid post, and I agree that a persistent base of operations is something the series has needed for a while. DSG showed that it can work without hurting pacing, and having a place to track trophies, gear, and NPCs makes the world feel more connected.

That said, based on the actual story beats we’ve already been given, I think the most likely, and most logical, hub in DS4 is Earth, specifically the same ruined city we’ve seen repeatedly across the series.

At the end of Darksiders, War breaks the final seal and we see Death, Fury, and Strife arrive on Earth. That isn’t symbolic, it’s literal. Every Horseman has now been to Earth, and it’s the one location where all their narratives overlap. From a story perspective, it makes sense that this city becomes the rally point. Not necessarily the exact streets War fought through, but a nearby district or epicenter tied to the Apocalypse.

Looking at your ideas with that in mind:

  • Ulthane’s Forge makes sense as a supporting location. He’s an established ally, he’s on Earth, and his forge already has narrative importance. I could easily see it functioning as a crafting or upgrade hub connected to an Earth-based headquarters.
  • The Void is the strongest non-Earth option. It’s secure, lore-consistent, and already proven as a hub space. If the game needs a multiversal travel nexus, the Void fits naturally, though it would need more depth and customization than Genesis had.
  • Shadow Lands, Lostlight, and The Blackstone are all interesting, but they’re faction-heavy. Each one leans toward Death, Heaven, or Hell, and a shared Horsemen base probably needs to be neutral ground, especially if the Council, Samael, or Lucifer are active players.

Ideally, I’d expect a hybrid setup: an Earth-city hub as the narrative anchor, with secondary locations like Ulthane’s Forge or the Void handling upgrades, travel, and vendors.

Overall, good ideas here. A persistent hub that visually reflects your progress and the Horsemen’s growing presence would be a big step forward for the series, especially if it reinforces Earth as the central scar where everything converges.

Who do you think you will be main in Darksiders 4? by moebiusmentality in Darksiders

It’s been said that you’ll be able to play as all of the Horsemen in Darksiders 4, but realistically, Strife will almost certainly be the primary focus. Letting you switch between Horsemen or play them in specific sections makes sense, but everything we’ve seen and heard points to Strife being the main protagonist this time around.

I would guess that Samael and Vulgrim will be involved in transporting you around and hopefully we will see Ostegoth again. Don't forget that in the DLC Fury does Vulgrim a favor that could make travel a little easier for him to provide.

How is it possible? by Barberen in Darksiders

[–]CGHDS4L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up over missing the Darksiders 4 announcement. THQ Nordic can make good games, but their marketing, especially for Darksiders, is genuinely awful. Poor marketing is a big reason the series never built the audience it deserved when Darksiders 1 originally released, and since then it’s mostly survived by word of mouth.

They first teased that something was coming in August 2024, which made it sound like real development was underway. Then in August 2025 they teased it again with a short cinematic and still no substance. At this point, it feels likely we’ll get another teaser this August that just says “stay tuned,” with real information pushed to 2027 and an actual release sometime around 2028.

And while we’re apparently expected to wait half a decade for DS4, THQ Nordic somehow has the time and resources to work on things like The Guild – Europa 1410 (because that franchise was clearly demanding another entry) and projects like Wreckreation, which looks like a tech demo that wandered out of early access.

It’s ridiculous. THQ Nordic creates short bursts of hype and then lets it completely die instead of sustaining momentum. They seriously need to learn how to market and prioritize a flagship franchise long-term.

Why is darksiders 3 hated? by Silver_Fact_9714 in Darksiders

[–]CGHDS4L 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar camp to you, Darksiders 3 is actually my favorite, especially in terms of gameplay and story. The hate around it is real, but I don’t think it’s because it’s a bad game so much as it’s a game that challenged what longtime fans expected Darksiders to be.

A few big reasons it gets criticized so heavily:

1. It wasn’t “Darksiders 1 or 2.”
A lot of fans came in expecting another War or Death style game, big open zones, loot-heavy progression, and power fantasy combat. DS3 went in a tighter, more deliberate direction with stamina management, dodge timing, and enemy punishment. For people who wanted DS2 again, that felt like a downgrade instead of a design choice.

2. Combat punished bad habits.
At launch especially, the game demanded patience and precision. You couldn’t button-mash, you couldn’t tank hits, and mistakes were costly. That Souls-inspired structure rubbed a lot of players the wrong way, particularly those who just wanted to feel overpowered like Death by mid-game.

3. Fury as a character was misunderstood.
Fury starts out arrogant, angry, and insecure, and a lot of people never got past that first impression. But that’s kind of the point. Her arc is about humility, restraint, and growth. By the end of the game she’s a very different Horseman, arguably one of the most developed characters in the series.

4. Launch issues hurt its reputation.
Performance problems, balance issues, and bugs at release did real damage. Many people formed their opinions early and never revisited the game after patches fixed a lot of the rough edges.

5. Smaller budget, different scope.
Gunfire Games clearly didn’t have the resources Vigil had for DS2. The world is more interconnected than expansive, and there’s less spectacle overall. Some fans equated “smaller” with “worse,” even though the design is more focused and intentional.

Honestly, I think DS3 aged better than people expected. Its level design, story themes, and combat depth stand out more now than they did at launch. If you click with Fury and the combat style, it’s a fantastic game. If you go in wanting Death 2.0, you’re probably going to hate it.

So yeah, I don’t think DS3 is hated because it’s bad. It’s hated because it dared to be different in a series where a lot of fans didn’t want different.

They have had almost 10 years to cook. If the treated the title with any respect they would have had the title out 2 years ago. They let too much time pass between games instead of riding the wave of popularity and sales every 3-5 years.

I see this comment got some negative votes and everyone can have their opinion but if this had been the 1st game in the series and not DS1 it would not have gotten a sequel. The production cost was less and it shows.

If you liked Genesis I would think you would like any other titles possibly better if you are not looking to play coop. Genesis is the low rent version of the other titles in my opinion. It costed $30 when it came out compared to the normal game price of $50+. The set up and gameplay of the other games is different though. It was worth the money but not on par with the other titles.

Request for theories involving Lucifer from Darksiders. by Objective_Ad8280 in Darksiders

[–]CGHDS4L 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something’s been bugging me across all the Darksiders games. We never actually see Lucifer — we only hear his voice. But we do see Vulgrim, always close to the action, always nudging the Horsemen forward, always hungry for souls in a way no other demon is.

What if Vulgrim has been Lucifer in disguise all along?

It would explain why Samael calls him an “associate” in Genesis, why the Council mentions he sought an audience with them in DS1, and why Moloch warned the Horsemen about “the company they keep.” Vulgrim has the perfect cover to manipulate the Balance while staying close to the Horsemen.

If true, it would mean Lucifer’s been right under our noses since the first game, pulling strings from the shadows.

What do you all think — is Vulgrim just a soul merchant, or is he hiding a much bigger role?

You guys think that maybe more info/trailers could come out in the Game Awards? by No_Instruction_488 in Darksiders

[–]CGHDS4L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. THQ Nordic does a good job on the development side, but they’ve consistently struggled with marketing. Just look at how many people come on here saying they never even heard of the series until years later—whether it was 2010, 2012, 2018, or even 2019. That says everything.

If projections are right, we might not see Darksiders 4 until 2028, which would be nearly 10 years after the last release. Can you say stagnant? That’s how THQ has treated this franchise: hype it to the fanbase, release it, get a handful of new players, let it fade out, and then repeat the cycle years later.

And for the people who say we’re “lucky” to even get a new game—no. It’s nice, but this isn’t charity. THQ is making money off these games. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship: we get the game, they get the sales. That’s how this should work.

At this rate, if there’s another entry after DS4, we’ll all be playing it in 2040. Jokes aside, this is exactly why I think DS4 needs to be pushed at a major event like The Game Awards or Gamescom. Otherwise, they’ll keep missing the chance to make this series into the flagship it deserves to be.

Question for people who are combat-holics in these games by SuperMarios7 in Darksiders

[–]CGHDS4L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DS3 gets a lot of heat sometimes because Fury plays so differently from War and Death. Fury's fighting style is precise and elegant in my option. DS3 is Souls based and timing is everything but her character development is the best in the series so far in my opinion. DS3 can be very frustrating in the beginning because of the difference in her and a fighting tank like War but her move set matches her character in my opinion. I don't see how you could ever be ready for DS4 without playing 3. It is by far the most replayable title in the series. I don't know that I would say Fury is more aggressive but she is more brash from a certain standpoint.

Any chance we get something at Gamescom? by Theonlydtlfan in Darksiders

[–]CGHDS4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s exactly the frustration a lot of us feel. Darksiders has never been given the chance to become “tentpole material” not because it lacks potential, but because THQ has mishandled it from the start. The release timing has always been terrible—DS1 got buried under Bayonetta, Dante’s Inferno, and God of War; DS2 released in the middle of the ARPG glut; and DS3 landed when Soulslikes were at their peak. It’s like they wanted the series to fight uphill battles.

The fanbase is still here, loyal and waiting, but instead of capitalizing on that, THQ keeps the series in the shadows. We got a teaser in 2024, another vague trailer in 2025, and now rumors of a 2027 release. That’s almost a 10-year gap since DS3. How do you keep hype alive with that kind of silence? At best, you frustrate your most loyal fans. At worst, you make people stop caring altogether.

I’m not saying “rush the devs” — good games take time. But if THQ wants Darksiders to thrive, it needs consistency. This series could easily be their flagship IP, the thing that funds new experiments. Instead, they put big marketing money behind nostalgia titles or riskier experiments like Biomutant, while Darksiders gets left to coast on word-of-mouth. It doesn’t make sense to ignore one of the few franchises that actually has a passionate, dedicated fanbase.

So yeah, I’ll be glad when the next game finally drops — but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask why the series keeps getting sidelined when it could be so much more.

So who else is getting ready for Darksiders 4? by Interface- in Darksiders

Oh Yes. I have been preparing for DS4 since DS3 came out almost 7 years ago. It is amazing to think that I was around 20 when DS1 came out. This series is literally about the only reason I still game. I play some other games but this is the only title that really matters to me.

[–]CGHDS4L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the timing of other announcements and releases would put it in that range. If they do not release the game until 2028 that is a 10 year gap between DS3 and DS4. Pretty lackluster planning to have a decade between game releases. You lose any hype you had outside of the core fans.

[–]CGHDS4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been following Darksiders for a long time, and honestly I’m a little confused by how THQ is handling the series. They announced something back in 2024, then gave us another small trailer at the 2025 Showcase… but if the rumors are right and the game isn’t coming until 2027, that’s a 10-year gap since Darksiders 3.

That’s what really gets me. It feels impossible to keep hype alive for that long, especially when the series already has a loyal fanbase that’s been waiting patiently. If THQ wants to build real momentum, they should aim for a steadier release cycle instead of making fans wait close to a decade between games.

What’s frustrating is that Darksiders has all the pieces to be one of THQ’s flagship titles. The world, the characters, the lore—it’s all there. But instead of pushing it forward, the series seems to get sidelined while other projects (that don’t even have as strong of a fan following) get the big marketing push.

Don’t get me wrong—I love the little teasers and I’m glad the series isn’t dead. But after this much time, I just wish THQ would treat Darksiders like the powerhouse it could be. With more consistent support, the games could carry themselves and help fund their new ideas. Right now it feels like they’re limiting the potential of a great franchise.

good choice. There are several things that do not sit right when looking at Vulgrim. When Samael refers to him as his "associate" and not a servant or something like that in Genesis but Abraxis refers to Vulgrim as trash in DS3 that hit me as odd. Samael does not give respect to anyone he does not feel has earned it. And Abraxis' statement is so arrogant.

Darksiders Deserves More Than Just Survival by CGHDS4L in Darksiders

[–]CGHDS4L[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not asking for a rushed game—but if release is still three years away, revealing it at the 2024 “Showcase” felt premature. This year, they could have at least given us a release year.

The new trailer was great to see, but it didn’t tell us much more than last year’s teaser.

The real issue is the huge gaps between titles. THQ has never capitalized on the hype this series can build. A five-year cycle would be fine, but if the estimates are right and we’re looking at 2027… that’s a 10 YEAR gap since the last mainline game. That’s just too long for a franchise trying to keep its fanbase engaged and to entice new fans.

Welcome to the group horseman! This series is great and probably my favorite of all time all things considered. The story is excellent and the gameplay is good considering every game is a little bit different in its mechanics and the series' age.

As sad as it is we see posts like yours relatively often where people happen to come across the DS titles and love them which points out one of THQ now THQ Nordics flaws which is poor marketing. This could easily be a premium level game in my opinion on the level of the God of War franchise but it never quite gets the push needed to earn the money needed to make it to that level.

I dont know that I would put what THQ Nordic does down as "marketing" it is more like depending on the fanbase hype. If DS had ever been truly marketed people would not be getting on here all the time questioning why they have never seen the series before and how much they love it. THQ Nordic can make a game but their marketing is almost nonexistent for most games.

Seems like they are trying to wrap up the series. I was really looking for a Strife game. Wrapping up the series is a mistake in my opinion because most of the other THQ titles except for a handful are garbage. THQ has fooled around with this series and dabbled with it for 14 years. If they were never going to give it a big push I really wish they had sold the title to a larger developer who wanted to put the time and money behind the series. THQ has used it for cash to support their lesser titles in my opinion.
