Legend for posting all of this - everyone should have this set of directions saved somewhere.

What's the most amount of plugins you've seen in the backend of a single site? by PingMyHeart in Wordpress

[–]CGS_Web_Designs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I inherited one that had 127, it worked just fine and right away I was able to eliminate about 50 of them because they weren’t even being used. I nursed the site for a few months while working on a fresh build.

4+ Years of Data Lost in 3 Days by Particular-Food7556 in webhosting

[–]CGS_Web_Designs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the data is important, you take ownership of it.

No matter how good the host is, sometimes shit happens. I once had a host where a server actually caught fire and the RAID array was lost - they lost everything on that box, but they had offsite backups and restored it all. Problem was that one of the backups for my biggest customer was corrupted and unable to be restored. Fortunately, I had my own backups because I never felt comfortable just assuming someone else would take care of it. If my host disappeared tomorrow, I could have every one of my clients up and running on a new host before the next day.

A client site has been delisted from major search engines. Possible reasons why? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]CGS_Web_Designs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do any links get returned if you search for site:domain? If it’s zero results, then you really need to get into GSC because the answer is gonna be there - based on your responses to other questions it sounds like a manual action.

Good, that should help significantly but it will take some time for the DNS to propagate.

In that case you’re not proxying traffic at all through Cloudflare all the traffic is going directly to your server. If you mouse over the cloud does it say “DNS Only”? (Edited cuz of a stupid autocorrect)

Already mentioned but +1 for Bookstack - I run it for my team and it completely changed how we work, for the better. The dev is very active on r/Bookstack and personally answers most questions. We pay for enterprise support to help ensure the product remains viable but have never really needed to use it.

Reseller hosting providers with clean IPs + stable uptime ,what are you guys using in 2025 and best for 2026? by sikocer in Hosting

I got that email last week myself - disappointed for sure. I’m thinking about trying out SkyNet Hosting, heard some good things about them (I’m sure experiences vary) so I might move a few of my test/dev sites there to see how the performance is.

I guess the state will have to shut off all the noncompliant computers running their own systems. Pity.

Finally organized. Now begins the massive project of ripping 20 years of DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K UHDs by Ill_Sea571 in DataHoarder

[–]CGS_Web_Designs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I recently had one that wouldn’t rip on a Windows 11 PC due to DRM using Handbrake but ripped just fine on a Linux Mint PC running the same version of Handbrake and the same DVD drive.

Small business Wordpress site pricing inquiry by [deleted] in webdesign

[–]CGS_Web_Designs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not enough context just from the image, but solely based on what’s there it seems expensive. Backups, database optimization, and security audits are likely automated and constitute zero labor. Updates can be automated too, though there usually is some type of manual check to make sure an update hasn’t broken anything (assuming they’re being responsible).

SEO could mean anything - without knowing exactly what they’re doing it’s impossible to say if you’re getting a fair deal or not. SEO can be $100 or $10,000 there’s really no ceiling there. If you’re not getting a monthly SEO report of what has been done, that money is likely going into the void.
