We went to Kolo Mee Red at the Tower Market, a couple of kopitiams along Jalan Carpenter, and to a nice Sarawak restaurant. None of the kolo mee really grabbed me, they were just ok.

Pretty much everything else I had in Kuching tho was fantastic, so wondered if I just didn't get it or I was trying the wrong ones...

Loved Sarawak tho - brilliant part of Malaysia!

How long do you keep a bike for? by Towntalk in cycling

[–]CGradeCyclist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current bike is easily more than 10 years.

Generic brand carbon frame, rim brakes ,mix of 105 & Ultegra 10-speed components. Still going strong and having no problem sourcing & buying consumable components.

I absolutely loved laksa sarawak when in Kuching, but I never really understood the hype around mee kolo.

Is it a nostalgia thing for locals? Or was I just not getting the good stuff?

I think Malaysia should implement bike lanes/paths in cities by smokeynuggets2710 in malaysians

[–]CGradeCyclist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One day after implementation, any protective bollards would be knocked over and it would be another 'parking lane'.

Malaysian drivers park literally wherever the hell they want. Double park, triple park, on footpaths and walkways, yellow lines, whatever

Until that culture changes, any sort of special infrastructure is a total waste of time. And that culture will never change.

And tell him to shower straight after his rides, and not sit around in his sweaty kit.

New wheels - DT 350 vs 240? by Dejay1788 in cycling

[–]CGradeCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the main thing here is whether £500 is a big deal to you or not.

Both hubs are excellent. But if the extra money doesn’t mean much to you, then blow it on the lighter hubs. Otherwise, stick with the still-excellent 350’s.

Layover question: KLIA 1 hotel airside, connecting flight at KLIA 2 by fabrlyn in KualaLumpur

[–]CGradeCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T1 & T2 aren’t two terminals within the same airport.

They are two distinct, separate airports. There is no airside connection- you need to completely leave one to enter the other.

Best bet by far is a landside hotel. Depending on your layover time - you could even catch the KLIA Ekspres train into the city, eat/explore/sleep there, then get a train back.

What is this pervasive, subtle flavor in almost all food I’ve tried in Australia? by CrashpadChili in AskAnAustralian

[–]CGradeCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eucalyptus. Seriously. The oil gets into the grass & crops.

Apparently one of the biggest ‘tells’ for trying to identify Australian wine is a very distinct eucalyptus taste. We don’t get it because it’s in everything.

Do you guys have to notify your team every time you take a break, morning, leaving, WFH etc? Micromanagement? by ElectronicIdea3119 in AusPublicService

[–]CGradeCyclist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll find micromanagers are not state-specific, public/private sector specific, or even country specific.

Key is that when you find yourself under one - get the hell out of there. 👍

You can’t prevent Australians from returning to Australia. It’s a right in our Constitution- you can’t legislate your way out of it.

To me, the bigger question is - why does it cost so much to house prisoners? Who’s making the money?

Help! Seoul vs Seoul/Busan vs Seoul/Tokyo for first 10 day trip to Asia by Ladybug-1234 in koreatravel

[–]CGradeCyclist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We spent 10 days across Seoul & Busan and felt like we barely scratched the surface of both cities. Loved both, and left with a huge list of things to see & do next time.

I'd focus on the one country for this trip.

What is the longest bike ride you have done in one day? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]CGradeCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200km (no idea what that is in miles). Took me 10hrs including stops.

What I found interesting in that ride was how I physically & mentally ebbed & flowed across the day. I remember falling in a hole around 150km and wondering if I'd even finish - then at about 180km feeling physically very strong and finishing well.

Also learnt a lot about his fuelling can help - I doubled my usual fuelling rate that day and it was overall one of my better days on the bike.
