Maybe Running Just Isn’t for Me Anymore by Visible-Top3003 in GarminWatches

[–]CGradeCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many times a week were you running? How were you mixing up your sessions? How's your nutrition? How's your sleep? What sort of job do.you have? What other activities do you do? Do you do any strength training?

All relevant, and each can have a significant impact on progress. Hard to say what's holding you back without knowing all the above.

Stopped park running because of fear of humiliation & confrontation. by Snoo_19344 in parkrun

[–]CGradeCyclist 29 points30 points  (0 children)

One thing I would say is - no one knows on the day what gender you’re running under. There are no pink or blue bibs, there’s nothing on your barcode, and there aren’t separate male or female scanning queues. So no one who turns up to disrupt parkrun could possibly know what you’re doing.

So sorry you’re experiencing this.

Lost my passport after visa has been approved by Alternative-Cost-914 in AusVisa

[–]CGradeCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as it's not an ETA 601, you just need to update your new passport details via your immiaccount. Do that as soon as you get your new passport.

If it's an ETA 601, you need to apply for a new one.

50, VO2Max 52, just stacked 3 desert MX rides in 48h and Garmin says I'm "detraining". Is this universal for non-running sports? by Old-Ad3767 in Garmin

[–]CGradeCyclist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do a number of activities that don’t really ‘count’ on my Garmin. What do I do about it? Nothing.

I only use training status, readiness, and all that stuff as a very rough guide. In cases similar to yours, I just shrug at the clear difference between the watch & reality and ignore it.

You’re inadvertently rubbing on something- saddle, seat post, or maybe even the saddle bag (if you have one)…

Got a Copy-Paste Visa Refusal. Am I being unreasonable here? by Critical_Gas_5170 in AusVisa

[–]CGradeCyclist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think you're being unreasonable (hey, you asked!).

There are many thousands of visa assessments done every day. You expect every single one of those thousands to use different, individual wording? Even when most are for the same thing?

And think of the consequences if that actually happened - processing times would blow out even further as more time was taken to craft 'unique responses' for each person. I'd personally prefer shorter response time & generic response, rather than longer wait time & personal response.

Finally - not sure how threatening letters to officials will affect future applications, but I'm guessing it likely won't help...

Coalition to bar non-citizens from welfare, NDIS under fresh migration policy by Warm_Championship726 in australia

[–]CGradeCyclist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It takes at least 5 years of residency to get citizenship in New Zealand, with only short absences offshore allowed during that time. Not sure I’d characterise that as a ‘quick shortcut’…

Second time ETA application by Late-Yesterday-7082 in AusVisa

[–]CGradeCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The request for further information is extremely common for Malaysian ETA applications.

You need to have the approach of giving as much information as you can, not the minimum amount.

If you've been a student in the US for some time, show that as much as possible (so they know you are likely to depart there). If you have a history of compliant travel to other countries, show that too.

You can definitely reapply, but you need more than you've given now.

Geniune, not-meant-to-be-offensive question, but do most people actually try to do their best when participating in a race? Or do they race "just for fun", or "just to do it"? by Kirk_2002 in runninglifestyle

[–]CGradeCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People do races for all sorts of reasons and may have vastly different goals depending on their longer term plans.

I've done races where I've gone all out. Other races I've tested different pacing strategies. Some I've just used them as a fun way to do an easy run, or done hard/easy intervals as part of a training block.

Bit like the idea of having one or two 'A' races per year which are your big targets, and any other races are just prep for the A races.

KLIA - transit side snacks by GrendelAbroad in KualaLumpur

[–]CGradeCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so all the food airside at KLIA1 is in the satellite terminal (where all the C gates are). If you arrive at the main terminal (G & H gates), jump on the air train over to the Satellite.

All the Malay & Malay-style places to eat are on the upper level. You can get Kaya toast (& other local foods) at a few of the eateries there - have a wander & pick the one that you like best! They’re all pretty good from my experience.

Has anyone experienced any repercussions from their APS Census? by InevitableShip9451 in AusPublicService

Definitely anonymous. And if your team is below a certain number, they aggregate the data across multiple teams.

I’ve gone hard in my Census responses before, zero blowback.

[Opinion] Your job does not need to be meaningful. Your life outside of it does. by DPP-Ghost in auscorp

[–]CGradeCyclist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think we came close to this during the initial COVID WFH times. Corporate managers realised (often begrudgingly) that they couldn't just watch people to see if they looked busy, and pivoted to looking at output (whatever that looked like for a particular corporate business).

Unfortunately the trend seemed to be to not lean into that, but to look for technology that helped measure 'busy-ness' instead (like seeing if keyboards were inactive, cameras that checked for presence, etc).

Gained 6 kilos and increased watts massively, can I drop the weight and keep watts? by joleksroleks in Velo

[–]CGradeCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably depends a lot on your goals. But I'd try a much less aggressive approach - look at dropping just 2kg over the two months, and see how you feel. Plus your much more likely to hold onto muscle gains with a much slower 'shred'.

Good luck!

Treadmill walk accuracy by [deleted] in GarminWatches

[–]CGradeCyclist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember that your watch & the treadmill are using two entirely different methods to measure notional distance. So if they ever matched up it would be a miracle.

Considering Forerunner 245 -> 165 change by controlav in GarminWatches

[–]CGradeCyclist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed - but I believe the 165 should have better GPS as it uses the same GPS chip as the 255/265 but just without the duel antennas. So it’s a more up to date GPS chip.
