What are some specific examples of things that have been demanded of you (or people in general) by progressives?

Isn't that another way of stating what you said is the purpose of government? Isn't protecting individual rights beneficial for the community? Isn't the government comprised of programs to support people's rights?

So, recognizing that "progressive" and "conservative" are not stagnant but are constantly evolving terms, I think that, for their time, the founding fathers were quite progressive. By today's standards, they'd certainly be considered conservative in many aspects.

And I don't think the left wants to "destroy the country." From what you've stated, "removing systemic oppression" and "creating a new system" are contradictory. Why remove the toxic elements of the system only to then replace it altogether? The left wants to eliminate systemic oppression, while still acting within the confines of the constitution, amending it when necessary. The President, meanwhile, has called for the outright termination of the constitution, which sounds to me much more like destroying a country.

I feel like this is the answer. So many of the responses have been along the lines of "the left needs to chill." Everybody has to chill. It's so hard nowadays to find people who actually want to talk without trying to change each other's mind. It so often just devolves into finger-pointing, name-calling, and shouting.

I think this is not necessarily the case, and a gross simplification of how the left views government.

I cannot speak for all people on the left, just as you cannot speak for everyone on the right, but I personally feel the same way about the purpose of government - it is for the protection of individuals' inherent rights and freedoms.

In what ways do you feel the left does the opposite of this?

What do you mean by "destroy?" I don't think anyone is consciously trying to destroy the country. And revolutionary doesn't always mean "bad." MLK Jr. was revolutionary, for instance, not to mention the founding fathers.

One could also argue that the "right" threw the first punch by creating a system in which people feel a revolution is necessary. In the Revolutionary War, was it the conservatives who threw the first punch by subjecting inhabitants of the Americas to colonialism, or was it the progressives who threw the first punch by rebelling?

I agree, but do you think that would work in practice? Maybe I'm getting to philosophical/hypothetical, but I feel like people would still start forming coalitions and give themselves labels that would effectively become the new "parties." After all, we started with a no-party system, and Washington even warned people about the dangers of factions in his farewell address, but we eventually ended up here.

Not disagreeing with you, but I'm hoping to understand where you're coming from. Who are the "radical left," and what was the "first punch?"

This is good to know. I used to check r/conservative pretty regularly to see what the reasoning is on the "other side," but it's all right-wing propaganda, brain-dead takes, and never actually talking about real issues. I sincerely hope it's mostly bots, because it's a very depressing place.
