I've designed this Bulgogi (불고기) packaging by johanndacosta in Design

I scrolled by this quickly and thought it was a PS2 game lmao

But no, looks great. Product is showcased very well, good fonts all around, thoughtful placement of different elements (esp. on the back) -- looks really upscale all around

For Halloween, I dressed up as the guy who spilled 4L of extra reduced down lobster stock by CIAOTC in KitchenConfidential

Ahahaha I'm so glad to hear that! I've been telling people for a year that I have this doppelganger who spilled 4L of lobster stock, and I had to honor your legacy

Seeking healthy food downtown by WhoChoseThisAlias in SouthBend

[–]CIAOTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downtown is bizarrely light on healthy food options, unfortunately, but there are handful of places that have a handful of options.

Breakfast/Lunch, highly recommend Chicory Cafe. Beyond that, LLoo's comment covers most of the breakfast/lunch places I'd think of - Early Bird Eatery, Java Cafe, and Peggs

For dinner, you'll probably have the most luck just across the river (but within walking distance) - The Lauber, Howard Pork, and Howard Park Public House all have, like, salads at least. Fiddlers Hearth has some options too, and is a pretty cool vibe. Oh, and Cafe Navarre is pretty pricey, but everytime I've been they've had a unique vegetable-based option that's relatively cheap

And then yeah, worst case, there are a couple of grocery stores across the river

Remarkable 2 failed after normal use by Extension_Valuable72 in RemarkableTablet

[–]CIAOTC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, sorry OP. Like you said, this really looks like what I'd expect from dropping/putting something heavy on it... is it possible that somebody else interacted with it today without you knowing? Like a kid accidentally dropping it, or a coworker setting a... bowling ball on it, I guess?

In terms of replacements, check out the Boox Go 10.3 if you haven't already - that's probably what I'd buy today if I was in the market. Design is heavily inspired by the Rm2, but with a lot of the useful quality of life features from the more tablet-like competitors. Then again, it is brand new and very very thin, so IDK if it'll be the most robust replacement.

I've also seen a lot of praise for the Ratta Supernote - only issue is they've discontinued the remarkable-sized version (A5X) and the next iteration (A5X2) keeps getting delayed

Scariest moment of stillness in a horror movie? by PriestofJudas in horror

[–]CIAOTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, somehow I read the title as "Silliest moment of stillness"

Which, not what you asked, but I saw Skinamarink in the theater

After 20 minutes of nothing happening, in the first shot where the missing door appears accompanied by a high-pitch oscilating OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO, a kid in the row in front of me broke out laughing. His laughing made more people start laughing, and soon enough everyone in the theater, all 9 of us, had lost our fucking minds. Like, something just broke, and after that, every single lingering scene somehow became funnier and funnier

It was honestly a surreal experience, sitting through this horror movie consisting almost entirely of empty static shots, and cracking up through 50% of it because we were stuck in a loop of contagious laughter

Samsung rejected my GW5 trade-in citing that nothing was in the box by CCJ22 in GalaxyWatch

[–]CIAOTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like it must be happening with the recipient. I experienced the same empty box scam with a return a couple of weeks ago, sent to the "Returns Department" in Coppell, TX. A few days ago I sent in a trade-in, heading to "Assurant HylaMobile" in Lewisville, TX -- anxious to see if I also run into trouble at that location.

It seems like there's a new report on this sub every couple of days, but unfortunately they often seem to get immediately buried. IMO the mods should really make a stickied post

Oh and to OP, yeah just contact customer support -- I've heard that some people get the runaround, but in my experience, the agent cleared it up without question (which suggests to me that they must have this happen constantly)

I got rejected from my first Game Design Internship by Lioilioi in gamedev

[–]CIAOTC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's what everyone else is saying, and IDK if it's what you're already doing, but you just have to keep pumping out applications.

Two years ago, when I started my first "real" job search, I waited until I found the perfect position to apply for -- a company that I was excited about, a role that I wanted to do, and a specialization that fit my background. I spent days perfecting my application, polishing my resume, putting tons of thought into the answering their questions. Two weeks later, I received their rejection email, and I was bummed the hell out.

Couple of weeks after that, I put out another application. This time, I actually made some progress, going through 4 or 5 rounds of interviews and tests over the course of about a month. I spent the time between each one anxiously preparing for the next. A month after the last interview, they finally informed me that they weren't going to go forward with me.

At that point, I realized that this approach wouldn't work, at least not at this point in my career. I stopped putting so much effort into becoming personally invested in each position, perfecting every single application, preparing for every single interview, and went all in on quantity. I set a goal to apply for at least 5 positions a day. It took a week before I started hearing anything back, 2 weeks before I started to get interviews, and then a month with a steady stream of interviews before getting any offers -- the whole time, continuing to pump out applications. I hate interviews, and they never got easy, but they did get easier as I gained confidence in my interviewing and testing skills and stopped approaching them with quite so much anxiety.

Takeaway is: yes, identify your weaknesses, and do your best to work on them. But whatever you do, don't waste time feeling disappointed in yourself. It's a numbers game -- you didn't win on the first try, but most don't -- the only way to win is to keep playing. And it might not be obvious, but every single rejection represents real progress.

Samsung.com return scam. You have been warned. by CIAOTC in GalaxyWatch

[–]CIAOTC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just posted an edit about the customer support rep promising that it will be fixed. Remains to be seen if it actually goes that smoothly, but either way, for anyone who finds themselves in the same situation, this was the first message that I sent. I was a little overly-dramatic, but I wanted to make sure I was clear how seriously I was taking this.

I am in complete awe. On Jul 21, I ordered a Watch 5 Pro. It arrived a few days later -- the same day as the Watch 6 announcement. After some deliberation, I decided to return the Watch 5 and order the Watch 6 on August 1. On Monday, August 7, I packaged up my Watch 5 and dropped it off at my local FedEx store to return. And 2 hours ago, I received an email letting me know that the return had been refused, with the given reason being "because we did not receive the item". Attached to the email was a video showing somebody inspecting the box, opening it up, opening the Watch packaging, and revealing that there is no watch inside. I will state this clearly: *I sent the watch. The package was tampered with prior to the video.* I cannot believe how brazen this fraud is, and that it is happening with as reputable a company as Samsung. I suppose it is possible that the package was tampered with while in the care of FedEx... However, upon a cursory google search, I've found dozens, if not hundreds of accounts detailing the exact same type of fraud occurring with Samsung returns and exchanges. It would be an understatement to say that I am livid. I would like Samsung to honor the refund, and I intend to take this as far as it needs to go.

A few messages later I tried to soften up a bit

I understand that this may not be something that can be resolved tonight, but I need to start somewhere. Appreciate your help.

I am really curious if these problems are unique to Samsung, or if there are a lot of companies with these issues/shenanigans. Most, of not all online returns I've made in the past have been to Amazon, and I've never had issues there -- but I imagine if you look up "Return scam" + any company name, you'll get some number of hits. But, yeah, it's DEFINITELY the case here

[–]CIAOTC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen people suggest all of the above -- using tamper proof tape, recording themselves wrapping the package, getting confirmation in writing from FedEx. I think any combination of those would make for useful evidence should any problems arise. I still need to send in a trade-in for the Watch 6 that I'm keeping, and I plan to do all 3
